@@eternalotus yea... rice that fell off to the sides would either be scraped or squished. Knowing how people around here doesn't have delicate precision when picking things up, the grain of rice would slowly cause a nasty mess. See quite a few disgusting floors around asian restaurants.

I live in a cheaper area of the country. Even basic fast food is pricy. Last time I went to Sonic (only option for me), I think my chicken slinger ( sandwich), fries, and drink meal deal was like $8, and the amount of food you get for that is sad. I rarely get fast food because of the health concerns, but dang it, when I want to wreck my body with calories, let me do it right.

    My Yayoiken's pro move:
Right next to the rice dispenser there's a hot dashi (broth) server. When you ate all your side dishes, go grab another bowl of rice, and pour dashi over it. There's free tsukemono (pickled veggies) on your table, so top your dashi-rice combo with it. Awesome way to fill your belly if you want to.
But to be honest, the big fried chiken or the tonkatsu fried shrimp set is enough to stuff yourself. It's less than one thousand yen (7 dollars). They serve alcohol as well if you're feeling fancy😁

This is not to be all negative, but I feel like rice's health benefits are kind of overstated. Don't get me wrong, it's better for you as a filling side dish than fries or something. Or soft white sweetened bread.
But white rice is not the absolute healthiest thing. It's high-glycemic, so it causes blood sugar levels to spike. Diabetics should generally avoid it.
Those pickled/fermented veggie sides though? Undeniably really good for you. I'm sure they can be over-salted but, at their core, VERY healthy.

Where I live if you want a vegetable in your fast food meal, your options are Panda Express or Subway.
Not very economical or convenient to have to buy a whole package of broccoli from Kroger, where itll just take up space in the minifridge at home, and not be available the next time i go out...

Fun fact it's like 3-7 times cheaper than in the states for similar portions

  • @TheoCynical
    @TheoCynical 7 หลายเดือนก่อน

Ngl, the food is filling yet small in portion. I remember thinking about this late 2022 after my trip and wondered why our portions are so big considering we dont even finish them to begin with. I had seen a Shake Shack and was surprised that the portions were smaller but the issue with that wasn't the portion anymore, it was the price.
Dont get me wrong, there was some food places that were 'errrr'.
I wish America would integrate smaller portions for cheaper in their food.
As you already know from this channel, even the McDonalds range in variety. I wonder if the States could learn from Japan in quantity & quality.

I used to work at a “fast food” japanese restaurant in the US and the prices were insane. This is years ago too, so prices might’ve gone up a dollar or so since.
It always blew my mind the amount of money the customers were willing to spend for food they could make themselves for probably less than quarter of the price they were paying.
Oh and that’s not even including the delivery orders that will cost them another $10 or more in fees and tips.
I literally had someone order just sauces and a drink from us once. No actual food. $20 including their delivery fees. 😂

Fast food in my mind is more like handheld food you could walk around and eat. Wrap it up and put it in a bag quick. This is more sitdown restaurant food imo

Rice is good for you, but only after it chills and undergo some molecular change from being a more hot-headed bowl of rice to a more Netflix and chill bowl of rice.
The weird part is if you heat it up again after it chills, it's even better for you nutritionally. 🤔
