I had a feeling something wasn't right, it's not like sonic, er, REAL sonic, to get killed by betrayal, the only way he'd go down is fighting and to save someone, so something didnt add up and 21:35 proves this when knuckles says "SONIC, mighty, and ray" not just mighty and ray, meaning something forced sonic to stay, but the question remains; what forced him to stay?

The flashback shown in the worst and best ending routes implies that it was a stray piece of debris that hit Sonic and didn't let him escape before there were no accessible exits left, so his death was a complete accident
