    That wave opener is pretty cool. It should be a very good option for people defense training with their edc blades.

    • @kenfutv
      @kenfutv  4 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      I definitely agree. These being available allow for a much wider lineup of knives that have the wave feature. Finally, some of my favorite knives can have this ability. I see 5x5 is starting in on the benchmade knives too.

    I roll the 1st gen, fixed blade, 0-1 tool steel Suarez International Grab-n-Stab for my defensive blade. Not many people ever knew about this knife, they made 2 gens of it (2nd gen being all black), and now I believe that it is discontinued. If you can find one, you will be stoked!

    awwwww damn, i just sold my janisong off like 2 weeks ago in a trade. I actually saw another one for sell recently but it was not cheap at all.
    i also have had all 4 sprintrun and variants of the Yojimbo 2 (S30V, S90V, M4 & 20cv) and it has by far become my most favorite knife. and hopefully by the rumors going around, spyderco is prototyping out a larger Yojimbo in the works.

    • @kenfutv
      @kenfutv  4 ปีที่แล้ว

      I’d love to see them keep expanding the yojimbo lineup. I have a janisong coming in this week so look forward to a video on that soon! Anything in particular I should look at with that knife?

    • @anthonycampos7417
      @anthonycampos7417 4 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@kenfutv nothing in particular. It's a neat marvel but nothing absolutely groundbreaking or making it worthy of a must have.
      The one thing that always puzzled me was how the locking closed switch worked because it flipped the switch on both sides of knife. If you ever do a disassembly on it I certainly wanna see how the hell that part worked

    Spyderco smock is super fun. Deployable by front flipper, thumb flick or spydie flick. Or just hold down the button lock and flick your wrist. I play with mine quite consistently. Good video. I've been thinking about getting carbon fiber scales for my yojimbo 2.

    I always carry a spyderco PM2 with a wisemen signet ring and fang in my left pocket for self defense. The ring turns it into a (badly shaped but workable) karambit, and I feel like having the ring sticking out makes it easier to find and grab in a panicky combat situation. Thinking back I now realize I should have gotten the left handed version lol. (I also got titanium scales because holy crap their g10 is grippy and destroys my slacks)
    Since that knife is my dedicated self defense knife I never actually use it, so I've been looking for a similar knife to use for edc. I just got the spyderco manix 2, with the intention of adding a wisemen fang to that, but a) wisemen sent me the wrong model fang, and b) the ball bearing lock is so incredibly stiff that I actually have trouble closing the knife!
    I didnt know that another company makes emerson wave style openers, so I'll definitely pick up a yojimbo 2 soon and try it out. Thanks for the vid, cheers!

      Be sure to tell me what you think when you get it!
      My personal feelings are a bit different. I want my self defense knife to be the knife I reach for all the time. Under duress your brain goes to what you do most. I want every draw I do during the day to be practicing the skill I want to be there if the time comes.
      Cheers!

      You’re 100% right. I can speak to it like this when it’s isolated to just the knife in it’s own ecosystem. If you expand the scope even just a little bit, there is so much more to consider. Most of which arguably more important.

    The trainer blade is real knife quality steel - BD1 as opposed to teh S30V for the "real" version BD1 IIRC is a fairly tough steel whiuch makes sense for a trainer since they will (presumably) be subject to far more frequent use and abuse than the "real" one.

      Janich designed the knife (before 9/11) to be legal to carry everywhere, including on an airplane. So the 3” blade is more of a compromise to allow it to always be with you. Looking back, it’s hard to imagine being allowed to keep a Yojimbo in your pocket on a plane!

    I am a huge advocate of Spyderco products, and I feel the review, short of doing a disassembly, is pretty much spot on.
    However, at the time of my comment this TH-cam clip features an ad at the beginning for an unrelated product. I have to voice my opinion. I'm so tired of seeing the ad for that cheesy looking telescope that keeps showing up. Right from the beginning they make a claim that the "US Privacy Commission" wants them band, allegedly because the product is so good.. Well, to the best of my knowledge, and you're invited to do your own inquiry, here is no US Privacy Commission. There is / was a “U.S. Privacy Protection Study Commission”, their reports are unlikely to specifically address this "new super lens" though, as it's last report was filed in 1977.

    I have a yoji2 and it is currently my favorite edc knife. I dig the accessories...a lot.
    I am considering purchasing a spyderco Yojumbo. Your thoughts on this oversized yojimbo 2? I think the little Emerson wave-like attachment would work on the Yojumbo as well even though I think the blade is a little thicker, no?

  • @paulwalker3563
    @paulwalker3563 3 ปีที่แล้ว

    Emerson's. YES. Any iteration. I've got a few SC's in wave's, become hooked and accustomed to shredding my Carhart's pockets. The Wharncliffe is an exceptional design and my Yo'bo would be carried more, but I became partial to various wave EDC's and I'm not much for the high carry so, say my Endela Wave - or even an Endura fit the space. Thank you for the information and the links.
    I've heard on forums that a wave attachment unacceptably limits the Yohimbo's penetration depth by 25%.
    What do you think?
    Really appreciate your knowledge/ experience based insight.

    • @kenfutv
      @kenfutv  4 ปีที่แล้ว

      I did tune the pivot screw, but believe it or not, part of the problem getting it smooth like that comes from the tension in the handle further down. If you are trying to get yours this way, experiment with tightness of the screws farthest away from the blade.

    Btw, all BS aside... Those brass scales will patina and create a very rough texture if you don't polish them.
    That's assuming theyre not clear coated, and are raw brass. Hopefully your hand sweat & a bit of time will show you that they will NOT remain smooth.
    Report back to your people please, it's a very interesting process.

    Is the Jimbo 2 hard to take apart to install thr brass scales?

      This one was actually one of the easier ones to install scales on. None of them have been very difficult though some require patience.

    Why do you show your face so much. I thought you were going to show the knife. Baffling. I doubt people clicked on your video to see your face but yet the entire 13 minutes is your face! Come on man, leave something for the imagination and focus on the tools you are talking about.

      Haha so what I’m hearing is “dammit Ken! Next time you need to get more useable b-roll so you can leave more of it in the final video!” You got it, I’m on it! 👊🏼

      What specifically do you find impractical about the knife? In what ways is it not ideal for its intended purpose (other than being a folder)?
