WOW! Wish my grandfather would have lived long enough to have seen a hydraulic splitter, let alone a battery operated one. I have been splitting wood for more than half a century to heat several homes and sell the excess. Got a 20 ton unit 35 years ago, and just recently upgraded to a newer 27 ton one. I never use my splitter in the horizontal position. It wears me out lifting all those heavy pieces. I use a boat cushion on a milk crate that I topped with a plywood seat to do my splitting. With the splitter oriented vertically, I NEVER lift any piece larger than the final size I leave them. The boat cushion allows me to swivel a bit, so I surround myself with rounds and put a trailer next to me to toss the pieces into to transport them directly to my stacks. (An open sided tote would work just as well.) I can sit there for hours if someone assists me by feeding me rounds, but the trailer usually fills up first lol. We often find ourselves splitting blocks larger than 30 inches (my dad still loves to help), and for the big ones, we use a cant hook to lever them up and around until we can manage them. Thanks for the review.. We live in such an ever-changing world.
Add a hitch to the little splitter and hook it up to the little Tractor Supply Jeep. Would make a great little outfit for the grandkids! My wallet is thankful I don't have grandkids!
I have a ryobi battery powered splitter it’s a 12 ton splitter and it works great and it has a 2 second cycle and it uses fly wheel technology all contained in a compact unit
Cool machines, for sure. Obviously you’re not going to split cords at a time but think about it, bringing the charger along with a Jackery/Eco Flow/Anker solar generator and you’d have the perfect way to stay busy in the woods! Nice review gents!
Ryobi has a battery splitter also, I have seen it advertised last year,i don't know how good they are, they would be great for people like you were saying City people that don't want to make noise and just want to do it for themselves, i guess you can help neighbors out too.
I can see someone who is buying their wood and instead of splitting the larger pieces using a small machine like the 9 ton either in their garage basement or where they store their wood, keep in a DC motor goes to maximum torque right at startup this is one reason it has no problem to split even a gnarly beech. Interesting video and thanks for sharing.
The standard 20 ton splitter comes with 2 4AH batteries. Realistically would you be able to recharge 1 4AH battery before the splitter ran out of power?
Even if you buy wood from a guy like you, you can have one of these to make kindling or split pieces a little smaller, all all while you’re inside where it’s warm without the noise or fumes
Then don’t watch! For someone in the market for a big box store style splitter I’d say this is a very nice option allowing the convenience of not having to deal with a gas motor.

Ok,I’m even more impressed!
They aren’t for everyone but for what it is I was impressed!

I can see a large market out there.

Congratulations on your baby boy Jake. Hope Momma and baby are doing well.
Thank you! Everyone is doing great!
Like the fact that it's quiet and can be used indoors
Me too!
Hey Jack & Chris. On the 9 ton - the wedge could be a little taller to help on the 2nd split. Not a bad unit for the occasional user. Stay safe.
You could put it in your Rivian R1T electric truck and haul the wood home too. The advantages of the EV are similar to the splitters.
lol they are not for everyone but I certainly see their place in the market for the average homeowner that burns some firewood.

Glad you enjoyed, I think they definitely have their place in the weekend warrior market
Me being a Dewalt fanboy. I would love trying out those two.
They’re cool little units!

I’m not sure of the recharge time, they did give me a fast charger so that must help
Great video those splits are great! Do more some more videos on them please.
Will do! Glad you liked it!
What about a hydraulic tank on both?
20 ton has a hydraulic tank between the wheels and 9 ton has one under the beam.
Has a purpose…..impresive power
I was impressed for what they are!
Let see how long you can make a cord with the Dewalt
The 9 ton would be great for re-splits on bundle wood
Sure would!

Exactly!
Jake will that 20 ton split oak?
Definitely, oak is usually very easy splitting wood. The beech and locust we ran through it is tougher to split in my opinion
The biggest question is the price compared to a conventional gas or electric powered splitter, especially when batteries are $200 -$300 each
I think they are pretty on par, and if you already have DEWALT tools I think it would make even more sense.
Not for me in northern mn. Those batterys dont work when its cold. 😊
It was 12° when we filmed this video!
Keep them warm, put them to use and they will stay warm with use.
Anything beats swinging an 8lbs maul, good for the homeowner that does a cord or so per year. Not going to win any 1 cord challenges with those.
That’s exactly who they are intended for
@DudeRanchDIY Yes
Cycle time is pathetic.
I do like my Dewalt cordless
Batteries don't like the cold here!
I think the cycle time is pretty on par with your comparable standard big box store splitter. That being said, you’re not winning any speed records
Please give me your man card, I can’t make it through this video
