You have to admit, even though he did not do it properly, it was a very distinct trashy scream which most people don't do. No matter how he did it, they go big because of it.
I belong to that 1% then. His technique sucks. Its no wonder he tore the shit out of his vocal chords. With that being said, even good technique is going to give you a sore throat if you do too much.
Do any of you who are trollin' on Oli have ANY idea how hard it is to maintain a voice like his? Screaming and growls are not easy to do. Give the guy a break. He's been doing this for years now. Your vocal chords aren't steal. They do wear and tear. He's still a fantastic front-man. Keep it up Oli! :]
These guys put on an amazing show. I saw them the other week. I also have videos on my youtube. But besides that point, when you are at the concert you hear no mistakes, you know why? You're having an awesome time!!! I listen to the videos I have on youtube, and like "damn, they weren't as good as I remember" So point being their music isn't awesome, but they put on an amazing show!!!!!!!
I totally feel Oli's pain. Imma vocalist myself and from 13 when I learned how to scream to now being 20 my voice has no where near the range it used to. Like him my deeps are the shit but my high's are out the window. So fuck anyone who thinks he sucks. It's called time has taken it's toll. Look at M. Shadows from A7X or Corey Taylor from Slipknot. You gonna say they suck too? And always remember they are rich and famous. You are not. So go sip ya haterade and call it a day.
Back when bmth was a real metal band and didnt fucking become sellout scene fuck that shit i want the old bmth back they rocked i dont even know if i want to go to a bmth concert anymore because it might be scene infested like wtf bmth was making good money and still when they were screaming
They can't make this music anymore. Oli fucked his voice from smoking, drinking and just not screaming right. It sounded amazing when he could but the reason he sounded good was because he used a different technique, one which ultimately ruined him.
+Zak Storey Yes, however, they could easily make this music again if they wished. Not too long ago, Oli screamed Pray for Plagues, Diamonds Aren't Forever and a few other song live. During the development of Sempiternal, Oli took private vocal lessons and could scream again. They just don't prefer to do so.
Yeah i was there, it was just the best part of this concert at hellfest, but stop saying he fucked his voice, look Matt from Trivium, he fucked his voice, he learned to growl in the good way, it's the same about screaming, just CYB didn't give enough money for them compare to Sempirnal and That's the Spirit.... In my opinion CYB/SS/There Is A Hell was the best period of the band
@Roqy96 Randy talks about the surgery he had that basically keeps his vocal chords strong as ever. He was bragging about how he got prescribed medical bud to keep the film of mucus in his throat constantly thick. He mentions all that in an interview. Then you have Phil from All That Remains. He's the same if not better than back in the day. I guess you can just call him lucky or the shit. take your pick
@shits100 Most screamers end up fucking up their voice after extended sets. Now take into effect the fact that Count Your Blessings came out in 2006. and they were doing stuff from that album live BEFORE the release, since their demo is in 04. 5 years doing all that screaming? Even if he wasn't damaging his voice that's a long history doing shows 4-5 times a week.
@shits100 he doesn t take drugs. He drinks alcohol. And alcohol cant ruin your voice. It only can if you are drunken and scream. (for example slipknots corey taylor) But he only screams when he is sober. He just ruined his voice. His pig squeals on the first live shows which are videotaped were pretty much inhaled. Only the pigsqueals. The rest of the vocals are just awsome. Still one of the biggest fans!
@ajc1344 dude they were joking when they said curtis got a job on Top Gear, Curtis and the band have made the mutual decision to part ways based on personal differences, not because he got a job on Top Gear aha!
@PurpleX818 what do you mean sweating for no reason? are you serious? do you see all the movement he's doing, plus this is towards the end of the concert, he's screaming while moving around, plus its probably hot in there. i dont know about you but i'd be sweating
@idesoman if youre talking about the suicide season maybe but count your blessings and the ep its imposible dude mostly in the ep because of the earlier shows they sounded perfectly
Yeah, tbh the best part about old BMTH is the moshability of it. Instrumentally they were wicked, lyrically they gave no fucks, and all-in-all they were a good party/moshing band. Their vocals were never good, but back then simplicity was easy to appreciate.
You have no idea what your talking about. ALL the other albums are all just production work. The first was raw and Oli was THE BEST screamer capable of performing ANY scream imaginable on the first official album. Relisten to his range in variations on Count Your Blessings. The instruments showed us their talents too. I love every album of theirs but the first will always be the BEST since it was raw and and not so heavily produced/edited/FX/added miscellaneous instruments/ect... As an artist myself I can defiantly see the approach and reason behind band movements
@ItsAlxDee I wouldn't call what he's doing in part of Suicide Season and the new CD exactly screaming buddy. Notice in Football Season is Over he's got some good "Screams" kinda like back in CYB. I saw him live, gotta say he hasn't lost any of his voice. When he played Pray for Plagues it didn't sound different. It sounded amazing.
@sickbeast09 Come On Man there are older deathcore/deathmetal bands and they still rocking like Job For A Cowboy or Dying Fetus, those guys are HEAVY, I used to love BMTH But they're not even good metalcore on these days, for metalcore check Parkway Drive or I Killed The Prom Queen (Weinhofen's older band)
well,i started at 13 too and now i'm 18 and my highs are better and better and lows are getting sicker and sicker and the gutturals and the exhale pigsqueals get even more better. And btw, i have nothing to argue about Oli,i fuckin respect him and i am and always will be a huge fan.peace \m/ sstay brutal.
@Shink5 I never said he did, sorry if it felt that way. But he did have problems, with pain etc. I was at a gig where he admitted to it. Anyway, i just meant the ripped vocal chord stuff as, too imagine the pain he can feel when he screams kinda thing. And to be completely honest. I left this comment what 7 months ago? Never looked at it since, never expected to have 45 likes c.c this shocked me, Lmfaoooooo.
@Musetiro3 no no, thats deff not what i meant to say. idc about "wreckless" playing. more like playing like shit. thats more or less what i meant. he like... doesnt even try
why do people like the old bmth so much? i mean, i like it, but it wasnt original, so many people can do screams like that, but NOONE can sound like him now
@Asmodai4 indeed alcohol can ruin your voice. but i saw bmth 5 times and even though his vocals are kind of "Not like the cd", they are way better than in this video.. somehow sounding like he has got a cold..
@bassalegcrew hey so I looked through the entire mens and womens catalog at dropdead clothing's website, do you think any other place might sell it? I really want it bad :( thanks
@sickbeast09 Dude, I will never say on a CD Oli's vocals don't sound good... Because they do... But if you have ever heard, lets say Diamonds Aren't Forever... There are probably 3 vocal tracks going at once and they are all him. He sets himself up for failure by making his vocals way harder than they need to be. Which is why we all think he sucks live. That and he can't even do chelsea smile all the way through.
@ajc1344 They laughed in the interview when they said curtis left for top gear. And lee malia was roling his eyes and hiding his laughter. Thats definitely a lie.
this live performance was less than great ._. but that doesnt mean they suck live. they are AMAZING live its just this performance and a few others that suck :P
It is obvious that he didn't have professional techniques for growls and screams before he took lessons from Melissa Cross in 2011 and/or 2012. Moreover, he never warmed up before a show.
Many people have told me that he had gargled salt water for thier shows years ago because it makes your throat raw and screams better or some shit. And it basically sped up the damage process by like 3x that's why he does mostly bitch yells on suicide season :/
@HARDCORE22REVOLUTION uhh you know how blind people can 't read!!! yeah they made this thing called braile so that the could read. it's those bupy things! i knew that since i was like 6 dude
Fairly average performance at least they aren't slipping out of time as much as they used to i wish they kept their technicality it would of balanced out the new vocals and made the new music more listenable
i think he started to fly, so he does not care about his old opinions any more. in the past he didn't care about anything, and just made his thing. now they are trying to do music as much people as possible will listen too. that sucks kinda hell. suicide season is not a bad album, but after cyb, they could have brought out a better one, that sticked to their old style. and now where they sick to elctro i really am shocked oO
you just have to LEARN GOOD how take care of your voice and scream taking the breath for the stomach, if you scream just with the throat, you will destroy your voice, like him... Sting, the old singer of The Police, he has the same voice, he sings like 30 years ago, there is an example of NOT nu metal
Oli's fucked up voice is no excuse for them to not play any of the Count Your Blessings or Suicide Season stuff. For example Slipknot. Corey Taylor's voice is not as great as it used to be but they still rock the fuck out to the songs of their first and second albums, heavy as shit. CYB and SS are great albums with really good songs, Oli has proven that he can sing them, they could build up great setlists for their most recent concerts, but they end up being mediocre shows that last around 1 hour only with songs from Sempiternal and TTS, that makes them a mediocre band to me.
i think on count your blessings its more screaming which i like. on suicide season tho its like he is yelling, which i dont like? dont get me wrong its a good album but...common scream alittle more
R.I.P Oliver's Voice
this is the BMTH that I've grown to .... the Count Your Blessing one.. really great album.
You have to admit, even though he did not do it properly, it was a very distinct trashy scream which most people don't do. No matter how he did it, they go big because of it.
I love how many people talk about "technique" in screaming like they know anything yet 99% of you aren't even vocalists.
You don’t need to be something in order to understand it. There is obviously technique in screaming.
I belong to that 1% then.
His technique sucks. Its no wonder he tore the shit out of his vocal chords.
With that being said, even good technique is going to give you a sore throat if you do too much.
This was first song i heard from these dudes back in 2007.... the breakdowns were fookin brutal back then....
:]
And yet there are people who have done it longer to this day and didnt tear their shit up and have to completely switch genres as a result. lmfao
This is the BMTH I was introduced to in 2007.
Good to see they playing Count your blessings songs in Drop A# !
his lows are amazing. and i saw them at the end of warped tour he is very slowely developing some good highs back
These guys put on an amazing show. I saw them the other week. I also have videos on my youtube. But besides that point, when you are at the concert you hear no mistakes, you know why? You're having an awesome time!!! I miss this band.... the real one though.
TheGDOTPRODUCTIONS let’s just reminisce on the good days.. It’s okay to cry.. 😓😭
I totally feel Oli's pain. Imma vocalist myself and from 13 when I learned how to scream to now being 20 my voice has no where near the range it used to. he left the best part to the crowd. "one more time!" noone said it!
really noone? 4:19 ?
"How many of you have our CD" FUCK i feel old lmfao
@HARDCORE22REVOLUTION Braille is the script which is used by blind people, but it's normally spelled with two l ...
@NickVocal haha! great observation!
ICCCCCCCCCCOULDFUCKINMAKEIT..

Zakk Fronzak search antivist from hellfest 2016, he screams antivist in almost cyb style
RIP BMTH
False technique, he has quality tho, damn it's too late now(2018)
Does anyone know where you can buy that tank oli is wearing?
2016 in the house bitch!!!
This is the business!
2019 anyone?
Still loveyou Oliv ❤️
@xxJonLp yep. but i like the new album too. but they cant play the songs live like on the new albums.
@z0mby I think he was talking about before they released their newest album.
@Roqy96 Randy talks about the surgery he had that basically keeps his vocal chords strong as ever. @Pachirleone yup, it is :)
No the songs name is!!!!! Braile (for stevie wonder's eyes only) God! you guys dont know much!! :P
@LwPsMusic yup, this is true

@anulttanul
Sheffield, UK.
@Shink5 everyone has their own preferences :) i think milk or hot water is the best.. smokin is good though

talkin about yourself?

true but one thing can be said about randy hes been screaming since the 90s and has better vox now than then as for oli his went away quick
@Shink5 I never said he did, sorry if it felt that way. But he did have problems, with pain etc. I was at a gig where he admitted to it. It looks like he has no tattoos lol
Anybody knows what china is he using?
@ThrashMetallicus
Or Listen To Torn Into Fire Check Dem Out Really Good Hardcore Band
@Musetiro3 no no, thats deff not what i meant to say. idc about "wreckless" playing. more like playing like shit. thats more or less what i meant. he like... doesnt even try
@ichbindunurcool i understand... but... keep singin a whole concert.. lets see if they sound ANY NEAR THIS :/
why do people like the old bmth so much? i mean, i like it, but it wasnt original, so many people can do screams like that, but NOONE can sound like him now
Deathcore elitists.
I really want it bad :( thanks
yeahh oli's cool !! coooolll !!!!oh my god very cool
@Shink5 milk is the best remedy for screaming
@sickbeast09 Dude, I will never say on a CD Oli's vocals don't sound good... Because they do... But if you have ever heard, lets say Diamonds Aren't Forever...
idol
this live performance was less than great ._. but that doesnt mean they suck live. they are AMAZING live its just this performance and a few others that suck :P
his highs are gone
I assume it's rather hard to scream for an hour and a bit.
3;20 to 3:50 ...he owned it
siento que su voz ya esta un poco desgastada, muy bueno me suscribo
It is obvious that he didn't have professional techniques for growls and screams before he took lessons from Melissa Cross in 2011 and/or 2012. Moreover, he never warmed up before a show.
I do like the 'Bitch' scream in this video.
@sethserigny and lee is still good, i can obviously see how hard he tries and compesates for that jona guy's wreckless playing, lol
@drummerboy1210 what about Randy Blythe from Lamb of God? he has a better range than he did back in the day
whoa, where are they from? I never noticed the accent
That is jona?
Yeah
Oh man fucking almost twice the speed of the original xd
@Timmme07 but he cant. thats why his new album isnt that hardcore
Oliver sounds good to me
3:46 to 3:53 god damn o_O
the problem is oli sykes is bmth... :/...
Goddamn it, Sykes.
I really loved you, you know that?
But without your highs, I just don't think this is going to work out.
:D
Ya baje todo el concierto a mi iPod
:B
Many people have told me that he had gargled salt water for thier shows years ago because it makes your throat raw and screams better or some shit. And it basically sped up the damage process by like 3x that's why he does mostly bitch yells on suicide season :/
@sickbeast09 THANK YOU! :D Bring me the fucking horiozn
wtf why did he say stevey wonders eyes only if this is braile
he sounds ill to be fair and his new style of vocals sound so much more natural don't get me wrong deathcore yes is amazing but his new vox are sik!
Oli the best screamer out there? yeah sure...and i'm Batman
the only bmth song i like and its shit live
get the man a ricola and a bottle of water
@HARDCORE22REVOLUTION uhh you know how blind people can
't read!!! yeah they made this thing called braile so that the could read. it's those bupy things! i knew that since i was like 6 dude
@xxJonLp all other bands can handle it very well.
Fairly average performance at least they aren't slipping out of time as much as they used to i wish they kept their technicality it would of balanced out the new vocals and made the new music more listenable
You better fear me dear for I am Death :D
i think he started to fly, so he does not care about his old opinions any more.
in the past he didn't care about anything, and just made his thing.
now they are trying to do music as much people as possible will listen too.
that sucks kinda hell.
suicide season is not a bad album, but after cyb, they could have brought out a better one, that sticked to their old style.
and now where they sick to elctro i really am shocked oO
oh damn oli ;s
@sickbeast09
Oli Sykes is great, but, Mitch Lucker > Oli Sykes
i just wish i could scream! i cant :(
@SkaNanaProductions
Aside ffrom bad brains
i didnt see a pit during that breakdown.......
you just have to LEARN GOOD how take care of your voice and scream taking the breath for the stomach, if you scream just with the throat, you will destroy your voice, like him... Fer Raya he's done prey for plagues in concert, but it'd be unreasonable to give fans a shitty performance.
Fer Raya both sound amazing now after healing . Just saw slipknot recently corey sounded better then last few years
They have grown as musicians. "Sempiternal" and "That's the Spirit" are not mediocre.
ONE MORE TIME !!!
-Oli: no
I think Oli's screams only sounded awesome @ 3:22
i think on count your blessings its more screaming which i like. on suicide season tho its like he is yelling, which i dont like? dont get me wrong its a good album but...common scream alittle more
