I have this card. It was also sold as the Sound FX Classic 3000 by Bluepoint Corporation (Which is the variant I have). I have the manual and driver floppy disk along with the break out cable for the joystick. Never seen another one... until now!
@@tekglitch4484 Great insight, thanks! Found an article on muzine with a review of the card. Would you mind to create a driver disk image for preservation on vogonsdrivers or archive, or send me to do it? Also I really would be happy to try your drivers with this card. Grtz
@@pc-sound-legacy I will try and get a copy of the disk at least for you guys. I will try and figure out a way to scan in the manual. It may be a few weeks as my retro pc with a floppy drive is in storage currently.
@@logipilot Absolutely! I once tried Doom, tracks on a non-GM compliant keyboard which of course sounds weird but a GM compliant one (and a Yamaha) sure will rock :)
WOW so different to what I'm used to heard, awesome, weird and awesome, also very clean through my speakers, thanks a lot for sharing with us and to Paddy for lending you the card.!
Wow, what a wild card! Dream really had some unique takes on MIDI sound over the years. You're right about the output, that sounds so clean it's almost clinical. Needs some reverb or chorus to dirty it up a little 😆 Cool sound card! Thanks for the demo!
This reminds me of an early fusion of what essentially is the Terratec Base-1 with Terratec Promedia Midi-Daughterboard + CD-ROM interfaces. I can't figure out what the BS3393K is for though, and it doesn't seem to be the only Breve chip on there either. If I had to guess, one provides OPL-2 and the other is a DAC, leaving "windows soundsystem" to the soundport ? Very clean authentic sound too. I am impressed.
Really interesting card and definitely has a unique sounding wavetable too. I like it, though it wouldn't be my goto card, but I would love it in the collection for when you want to change things up MIDI wise. Great video!
@@Vanessaira-Retro Thank you🌞 I would like to have it in my collection as well. ( This one goes back in Paddy's collection soon) The proprietary wavetable module makes it very interesting to me.
Have also a Terratec Profimedia card that looks like this one but the Breve16 chip is unmarked and took some time and guessing that is was a Breve chip. The wavetable board seems to be different, had text: PCM168 v1.7 (c) MM-Power and the chips had the numbers: MMP3101, MMP4801, MMP5101. Remember that the midi wasn't as good as your recording. If my retro machine is finally fixed maybe I''l make some recordings.
I have a suspicion. There's a lot of chips marked Breve which look like they are probably off the shelf chips rebranded for a vendor. Other weird rebrand are all the mpower and mmpower chips. Actually there is more yet. I wouldn't be surprised if the DSP202 U14 is an OPL3 clone. I think the Breve chip on the ISA bus directly the U15 is potentially an Opti 924/929, for Soundblaster compatibility. I can't quite figure out what U20 is, but i would investigate gal32 and flash ROM as potential candidates if i was so inclined.
@@SianaGearz I thought the same! But Sndinit from Opti don't recognize the card and Windows just work with the Analog Devices via WSS (Didn't try other Opti drivers). The DSP202 suspiciously looked like a OPL3 clone but neither do adlib tracker IIcdetect OPL3 nor does it play stereo FM in games, just OPL2 FM. If you look closely, just ferry few pins are connected. @@Schule04 I don't think so because this card only has opl2 which I don't see in that kind of chip-package so far. I guess the ym3812 (opl2 or clone) is on the DIP chip with the sticker on it. (But I'm not 100% sure)
Ich muss sagen, mir gefällt der WaveTable der Karte gar nicht mal so schlecht.
