    John Carpenter credits Eyes Without a Face as an inspiration for the look of the Michael Meyers mask in Halloween.

      Thanks. I've always read that it was actually a Star Trek "Captain Kirk" mask. (Kind of looks like Shatmrr).

    I’ve seen The Crazies (really really good!) and The Voices (it’s pretty good, but idk about critically underrated). I’m watching Hello Mary Lou: Prom Night II right now, but Eden Lake is literally next on my watchlist so I’m excited for that. The Dark and the Wicked and Eyes Without a Face are already on my watchlist, so I’m glad to hear you’re hyping them up too.

    Awesome picks. Love those Imprint Blu releases of THE MOTHMAN PROPHECIES and STIR OF ECHOES. I only saw EDEN LAKE once, like 15 years ago, and have never forgotten that ending. Absolutely chilling. Adding KILL LIST to my watch list!

      Thanks so much. I really like Imprint titles but sometimes they're just way too expensive, especially the boxsets. But I do grab what I can. Eden Lake is definitely one that can haunt you. I'm happy you're going to check out Kill List. It's really great if you like folk horror.

    Yeah, I have Eyes Without Face Criterion. But I haven’t watched it in a while. Good French horror film. I saw Frailty a while back too. Bill Paxton puts on quite the intense performance there! I keep hearing about Stir Of Echoes. Maybe I can catch it streaming or at the library I work at. Nice suggestion s, Movie Chatter/Stephanie!

      I'd like to throw out just 3 (of my) underrated horror flicks for your consideration:
      1. From Beyond (Stuart Gordon)
      2. Psycho II (Richard Franklin)
      3. Horror Express (Eugenio Martin)
      4. Lifeforce (Tobe Hooper)@@MovieChatter01

    • @dominicsedillo1980
      @dominicsedillo1980 ปีที่แล้ว

      (in continuation with my recommendations):
      1. Everyone talks about Stuart Gordan's "Re-Animator", but "From Beyond" is Barbara Crampton running the gamut of performance and the color palette is so gorgeous. Also Stuart Gordon is the master of pushing the envelope of weird and then tearing it up completely.
      2. This movie is a lot like "Psycho II" in that no one wants the disturbed person to get better and reform. It's interesting. Also a very early 00's movie for sure!
      3. This movie was just a nuts concept with a prehistoric vampire and you have Peter Cushing and Sir Christopher Lee to boot!
      4. "Lifeforce" is like a better version of "Species" and a more bonkers version of "Under the Skin". Tobe Hooper never got his due and upon every re-watch of this movie he shows he's a more than capable director on large scales. @@MovieChatter01

    I added a few to the wishlist as always. Definitely want to pick up Stir of Echoes, Eyes without a Face, and Chained. Thanks for another useful video. And thanks for H20. I watched it a couple days ago. It's only my third Halloween movie and I enjoyed it as much as the first two. I don't think that I will ever be a huge fan of the series, but I'm certainly more likely to check out more of the films now than I was a month ago. Here are a few titles I think are overlooked: Severance (2006), Troll Hunter (Trolljegeren), Dead Creatures (2000), Switchback (Dennis Quaid, Danny Glover), Dead Alive, From Beyond, The Funhouse, Squirm and Bug (75). There are many more, but that's a good start.

      @MovieChatter01  ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Oh you're in for a treat with Kill List especially. I just re-watched Fallen tonight and it's still a fun movie. Censor is one that a few people requested and I really enjoy it but it can get confusing in the third act so just know that going in. I finally got it after the second watch but I really did enjoy it even if I was a little lost the first time. 😂😂
      I just watched Bug the other night. That was absolutely wild and Michael Shannon was fantastic. I love Troll Hunter, which is actually coming up in my collection video tomorrow. From Beyond and Funhouse are both great. Dead Alive- a classic that needs to come back into circulation.
      I'm going to look into Switchback. I don't think I've seen that one.

    Great lineup I will be trying a couple of these for sure 👍 Another one to check out if you haven’t seen in is “10 Rillington Place” based on a true story it’s about a serial killer in Britain during WW2, it stars Richard Attenborough (nice to see him step out of his usual British army officer type of role like The Great Escape) and John Hurt of Alien Fame. It’s quite an old film and it goes the route of the original Texas Chainsaw Massacre where all the violence and gore is largely implied, but you come away tricked into thinking you’ve seen something horrendous.

      @@MovieChatter01 Yes, well worth another watch. A few years ago the BBC also did a 4 part dramatisation of it with Tim Roth - in some ways that surpasses the movie. I live in the UK but I imagine you can see it on streaming. Yes, all based on true events - Albert Pierrepoint the chief executioner at the time, hung Tim Evans (Hurt’s character) and then Christie the real killer a couple of years later. Fun fact - Pierrepoint advised on the execution scene in the movie and because of this it was the most accurate depiction of a British execution on film, up to that point (details such as the gallows room been right next to the condemned cell to get things over as quick as possible were previously top secret). Hanging had been abolished by the time the film was made so Pierrepoint was free to share details.

    Definitely some superb, worthy choices on this list I’d heartily recommend myself. “Kill List” has long been a favourite of mine as has director Ben Wheatley who most recently went a little too mainstream with the fun but forgettable “Meg 2” but whose back catalogue I’d highly recommend, especially the pitch black comedy of “Sightseers”, the folk horror head fuck of “A Field In England” and the criminally overlooked “In This Earth” which features some of the best sound design I’ve experienced in modern horror. I’m sure you’re also aware of the likes of “Free Fire” and “High Rise” which are two more great films, albeit not as explicitly horror focused.
    “Ravenous” should always get a shout out and, again, I’m sure you’ve seen the film but whilst the Nineties weren’t the strongest decade for horror (“Candyman” being, by far, my personal favourite of the decade) Andrea Bird’s darkly comic cannibal romp is, dare I say it, utterly delicious!
    Then there’s “Heartless”, a film I hear so little about online but have always adored. Channeling more of a Clive Barker-esque fantasy horror vibe it’s both brutal and beautiful with strong supporting performances by Timothy Spall and Eddie Marsan and, I’m sorry, a true heart beating at the centre of it all. It’s a film I’ve longed for a more definitive release but one I’d highly recommend to any horror fan.
    From your own list I’d definitely agree with “Censor” and “Session 9” both which have received gorgeous releases by Second Sight. The latter seems a rather divisive choice from my experience but really lingered in my mind not least for Peter Mullen’s sensational performance (On the subject of Mullen I can’t not recommend “Tyrannosaur” which, whilst not strictly horror, is most definitely horrific and an absolute beast of a movie. Plus it’s got Olivia Coleman on absolute peak form)
    So, where was I? “Fallen” has long been a favourite of mine and, arguably, one of Denzel Washington’s best films and “Frailty” another film I’ve long wished would receive a new release.
    Oh, and rather fittingly to finish if you’re still awake after this ramble then “Sleep” is another definite recommendation, a superb German horror that occasionally evokes Lynch and managed to live, rent free, in my brain for a long time after i nodded off myself.
    I’m sure there are many many more but I’ve been put in my place by many a keyboard warrior for my lengthy rants so not wanting to invoke the wrath of the dreaded demon TLDR I’ll shut up for now.
    Regards from the UK
    Nik

    Frailty is one of those movies that I keep meaning to see and forgetting to. I need to make that a priority. Kill List is indeed amazing. I am not sure why I enjoy horror with cults, but I do. There is just something about it that bothers me. The Crazies is a great film. The “burn the house” scene just horrifies me. I have seen The Voices and it is a head trip…LOL. I think it is interesting how they show his insanity. Session 9 is a great film. I think it is interesting how they took such an idea and made it feel almost like it was real. It probably has a lot to do with the filming location. I also need to see The Dark and the Wicked. It looks like it would be excellent.
    As an aside, have you ever seen Hunted (also known as Rufus)? If you haven’t, I think you will like it! If you have talked about it, I have not watched all your videos yet so excuse me. LOL It is well done and has some outstanding moments. It is different. Also, I posted a comment on this video last night, but for some reason, it did not show up. If it does, and I end up with two posts, I apologize.

      Hi friend and thanks for the great comment. TH-cam is weird and sometimes comments just disappear, which is so strange to me. I'm only seeing this one right now but no worries either way.
      I love folk horror. There's a great set out from Severin called All The Haunts Be Ours. It's a bit on the pricey side but I enjoyed it sang it's a ton of content. A lot of it is unconventional but I liked most of it.
      Have you seen the Wickerman (original not remake) if not I think you'd really enjoy it. It's a good one.
      I haven't seen Hunted but it's now at the top of my list to check out.

    Wow. Once again so many of my favorite films being recommended. I have not seen kill list, chained or Byzantium so I am watching those tonight and tomorrow. There are very few movies that actually scare or bother me but dark and the wicked was one that left me very uneasy. If you have not seen the movie Found I highly recommend that as well. There are certain movies that I watch on a regular rotation and Fallen is one of them and the first power is one as well as in the mouth of madness, exorcist 3, Halloween season of the witch and night breed. I am sure you have seen all those I have so many more that I play on a regular basis but if you haven't seen any of these lately, I recommend you give them a rewatch during spooky month.. chef's kiss of horror . I loved the movie voices and I agree that the crazies remake was better. I have not seen Eden Lake but I've seen so many reviews of it that I pretty much think I've already seen the movie basically lol.

Found blu-ray at pawn shop. Eden Lake is intense but very well made. Need to upgrade my dvd copy. A young Michael Fassbender and Kelly Reilly. Eyes without a Face is in my shopping cart. Hopefully ill get soon. And Session 9 is in my top 20, possibly top 15. 2001 gem right there. I have Chained on dvd and always keep hearing good things about it. • @MovieChatter01
      @MovieChatter01  ปีที่แล้ว

      Honestly, I haven't seen it in a few years but I did watch it twice. That being said, I think it has qualities of everything from thriller, drama, mystery and even some noir. My feeling is everyone should organize their collections to reflect how they feel about the movies. I typically keep most thrillers in with the horror because it makes it easier for me to find things. I think it's fine to mix thrillers in with your other Halloween type movies if that works for you. So yes, I think Under The Silver Lake would fit there if that's where you keep your other thriller/mystery movies. 🎃
