    To any watching this video in 2022, it currently takes 5 weeks for KSU to process the FAVN test. Expedited services are no longer available, so plan accordingly. This whole process was the most stressful and complicated aspect of my move.

    I am moving to Honolulu in a couple months. My dogs have had their rabies shot since they are 3 yo. For everyone reading, your dog doesn't need to have more rabies shots unless the latest shot expires before you arrive to the island. From the package "Two rabies vaccinations are required. The pet’s most recent rabies vaccination must not be expired when your pet arrives in Hawaii. If arrival in Hawaii occurs before 30 days has elapsed from the most recent rabies vaccination, the animal is subject to quarantine until the 30 days are completed." The reason Jess had to get her puppy the rabies shot back-to-back is because Teddy was a puppy (12 weeks old) and needed the 2 rabies shot immediately.

    Was your dog okay after getting a second rabies shot 30 days after? I know they say it’s good for 1 year so I’m not sure if it’s bad to do it that soon after (I have a puppy as well)

    • @jesshonolulu
      @jesshonolulu  3 ปีที่แล้ว

      Yes! My dog was totally fine :) and our vet wasn't worried at all about doing another rabies shot so soon after.

    Thank you so much for making this video! We’re planning to move to Oahu by April. My dog that I adopted 5 years ago probably had 3 rabies shots since I adopted her. The most recent one was last year and it supposed to be good for 3 years. So the one from last year can count as the “first” rabies shot and I would just have to get another or “second” shot?

  • @isthatabbywu
    @isthatabbywu 3 ปีที่แล้ว +2

    Thanks for the video! My 6 month kitten just got the FAVN rabies test (I think my vet charged too much for it). The vet said there’s a chance he won’t pass it even though he had two rabies vaccines spaced out. Did you have any problems with your pet not passing? I’m worried he won’t pass.

    • @jesshonolulu
      @jesshonolulu  3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Thank you for watching!
      I've read that as long as you have 2 rabies vaccines and wait at least 21 days after the second one to take the FAVN test, the chances of your pet not passing is low.

    Im moving there in January with me ESA, was there anything specific for that that you were requiered to have?

    • @jesshonolulu
      @jesshonolulu  3 ปีที่แล้ว

      Yes! You would have to do everything I talked about in the video. Make sure you call the airlines you plan to travel with. Ask them for their paper work requirements for ESA animals. I flew with Hawaiian airlines and they had a form that my doctor filled out plus signed as well as another letter that my doctor personally wrote for me.

  • @mollyringie3015
    @mollyringie3015 3 ปีที่แล้ว +3

    Thank you for being so informative! For the health certificate for the airline, does the dog have to go to the vet one last time within that 14 days of arrival or does the health certificate just need to be made within that time frame? I am moving and our plan was going to be to drive from MA to WA and fly from there to shorten the flight for my pup. Thank you!

    • @jesshonolulu
      @jesshonolulu  3 ปีที่แล้ว

      The health certificate needs to be made during that time frame and the vet needs to write down the type of flea and tick medication given on the health certificate as well. Your plan sounds great! Wishing you the best travels :)

      @@jesshonolulu what about bunny rabbits ?

    • @jesshonolulu
      @jesshonolulu  2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Hmm.. If your bunny is small I would think you would be able to bring a small carry on into the plane as long as she/he can fit under the chair in front of you. I’m pretty sure you would have to do all of the same steps that a dog would need to. Because hawaii is rabies free.

    What does it mean to getting the import dog form notarized? And also on the form, what is the Application number section? Thanks!

    • @jesshonolulu
      @jesshonolulu  3 ปีที่แล้ว

      Hi Mike! Great questions. I believe the application number section is for the office to fill out, not us. As for dog form getting notarized, I didn’t have to do that at the time I used the form. I would recommend emailing these questions to: rabiesfree@Hawaii.Gov
      They respond very fast and are super helpful :)

    • @jesshonolulu
      @jesshonolulu  ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Yes! I would call the vet and tell them your situation about coming to Hawaii which is a rabies free state. You can also print out the checklist on their website and show it to your vet so they can follow the guidelines on how many weeks out that the second shot needs to be done.

    Hi. For the healthy certificate do I have to send the original with the package with all the other documents before the trip (within 10 days) or do I have to bring the original healthy certificate with me on the airplane? Thank you so much! :)

    • @jesshonolulu
      @jesshonolulu  3 ปีที่แล้ว

      I kept the original on hand and had extra copies. I had to give a copy to the airlines before boarding and then when arriving to Oahu I gave the original copy to the quarantine center.
      I would email them to confirm just in case rules or protocols have changed.

      I would definitely send Hawaii quarantine an email. They reply within 2-3 days and are very helpful! I’m not sure if 2 rabies shots is required? The form says to do two because it will ensure the favn test will be in favor of showing negative rabies results.

      My pup is an ESA animal. My psychologist filled out a form from Hawaiian airlines and also provided a written letter saying Teddie is my Support animal. I was able to bring Teddie straight on the airplane with a leash. I did not need a bag for her.

    How much did you end up paying for the FAVN blood test? Personally, I think my vet is up charging me more than he should. I need some comparison. Also, can you go more in depth on how you got to send out the blood sample yourself?

    • @jesshonolulu
      @jesshonolulu  4 ปีที่แล้ว

      My vet didn't charge me for drawing the blood sample. As for the test itself I paid about $90 to KSU. You can tell your vet that you want to send out the sample on your own and then just follow the instructions by whichever testing center you choose. 3:57 on the video explains how I packaged it for KSU.

    • @jesshonolulu
      @jesshonolulu  3 หลายเดือนก่อน

      Hi! My dog actually didn’t need to be in a carryon because she was my ESA. But the airlines changed the rules recently and now only allow service animals not ESA’s. So if your dog is a service animal then it doesn’t need to fit in a carryon. Other then that all dogs need to be in a carryon or will be in a crate in another area of the plane.

    • @jesshonolulu
      @jesshonolulu  3 ปีที่แล้ว

      Diandra Baesu My vet is located in Seattle. I think they would of preferred to send the blood work on their own but since I went ahead and paid ahead of time online I had to do it myself.
      Website: www.ksvdl.org/rabies-laboratory/favn-test/sample-collection.html
      That website gives you all the info on how to ship on your own. The price wasn’t much different for me if I had just let my vet ship it versus shipping it on my own. Hope this helps!
