This guy knows what's up. Let him be a guide to you. If I'm not mistaken, the author of the novel The Exorcist is actually the director of this film. I have no idea how they got George C. Scott of all actors to participate but I'm glad they did because his energy and his simmering unease is palpable ("We're FINE!!!!"). And of course Brad Dourif does all the things--the most memorable Mentat I've yet seen ("A few 'boo's' from the peanut gallery"). Rarely has a third film in a trilogy been so good, unless you're talking LotR.

That hospital jumpscare is infamous, revered, and quite frankly, frightening as sh**!

This is undoubtedly the best Exorcist sequel ever made. It's directed by the guy who wrote the original novel adapting the novel he wrote of this film so he knows what he's doing. The connection to the original a lot of people don't catch as a result of Lt. Kinderman and Father Dyer being re-cast for this one. But scene-for-scene it's got the same feel and dread the original has. Great reaction man!

I loved it big time. Will save the DirectorsCut and watch next year with someone who has not seen it. I think it might have been my fave horror this year which is crazy considering how old it is

The studio made Blatty add an exorcism scene to this movie, In the book "Legion" the movie is based on there is no exorcism that takes place.

This is the 3rd installment of William Peter Blatty's Faith Trilogy. Watch the 2nd film in the trilogy, "The Ninth Configuration" from 1980 co-starring Scott Wilson in a story arc as the astronaut from "The Exorcist" that Regan told at the party : "You're going to die up there". In the novel Father Dyer had also done a number on him at the party as well: "What is space." " I don't know." "Well, you should." Other than that "The Ninth Configuration does not reference "The Exorcist" but it explores much more in depth the questions of the existence of God and good vs evil in the world. It is not a horror film per se but it does have its moments and is a completely unique genre all of its own. Besides Scott Wilson you will be pleasantly surprised by other members of the cast including Blatty himself.

Great reaction. I love this sequel more than the first Exorcist. George C. Scott is my #1 favorite actor. If you enjoy him in this, you should watch The Changeling. It's one of the best ghost/haunted house movies ever made. He's also incredible in Dr. Strangelove. He looks a lot like my grandpa that passed when I was 7, so I have always felt some kind of connection with him as an actor.

I really enjoyed your reaction to this classic film. I loved how you inadvertently set yourself up for those enormous "jump-scare moments during the hospital scene. Bravo!!!!!
As someone who actually saw this film in 1990, i wish that you hadn't been so preoccupied with its remaining time; especially during some those really crucial moments of the film. Did you enjoy how the demon took its revenge on all those individuals who had a role in its discovery in the first film and how their names began with the letter "K"? Now That was pretty petty (The "D" is into the details eh?) and awesome at the same time.

They almost didn't even bring back Jason Miller as Karras. Brad Dourif was going to be both Karras and the Gemini Killer. Blatly intended to put as much distance as he could between the two films, despite the connected plots.

If you can, get a watch of the Directors Cut of this. The entire Priest subplot was added on by the studio, that's why the white haired priest's scenes doesn't interact with anyone, they were added later. The studio thought the original shot ending was too depressing and dire for audiences.

    • @screamscenereacts
      @screamscenereacts 11 หลายเดือนก่อน +2

Having seen both versions, I would have to agree with the studios on this one. The theatrical version has a more "Exorcist" feel to me while the directors' cut feels more like a crime drama.

@@screamscenereacts Well, again your perception of what this should be and what's better to you was equally the studio's manipulation of things. This movie was originally called Legion, like the book it's based on; it was a continuation of sorts, as it continues with characters of the first one, but Blatty never meant to re-visit old ground and make it an outright "Exorcist sequel" either with the book or film. "There will be no head spinning, pea-soup vomiting or grand exorcism here", was pretty much Blatty's mission statement with this picture. He was trying to explore the "mystery of faith" from a different, less overtly religious angle; attempting a more grounded approach - well, as ground as the subject matter would allow. Blatty also didn't want this film to be considered a "third" in a series since it would validate The Heretic, which he wanted nothing to do with. The studio, however, said no to that and insisted the name of the film be called Exorcist III. The studio wanted another Exorcist with an exorcism in it and all the spectacle that comes with it.
Blatty's original vision to me comes off as a lot more appealing, interesting and a fresher take on the subject, while Exorcist III and it's big exorcism finale just comes off like a retread. The studio ending and approach to me just kind of makes it another Rush Hour movie where it's just the same thing all over again.

I see what you mean there @@StarryStarryNocturne I did read the book this was was based on and while I liked it in novel form, the director's cut felt anemic in some way not translating the more esoteric elements of the novel well. But yeah, any attempt to distance this film from "Heretic" is always welcome in my eyes! 😆

When you guys scared about the ice cracking and then that man jumping out the bed, I said, just wait a couple more minutes you are not ready for this movie. Dude, this is hilarious, this is great response to a movie. Keep up the good word, sir. Also, you know, a lot of people are not doing a lot of the oldies like the exercise. And you know, there are some good movies of the 70s like the poseidon adventure or earthquake. I mean, you can do what you want to do. But there are a lot of good movies out there

What I didn't understand when I saw this in the theatre as a kid..it's a thriller..not a horror. So there's no reason for jump scares or crazy horror scenes. Exorcist I was a love story about how far a mother will go to protect her child, this is how far a person is willing to believe to save themselves and their friends ... how far will you lose yourself to save a buddy. But to rescue yourself at the same time. Thats not horror...thats love in the friendship and companion way. Excellent themes.

Jason Miller, the actor who played Father Karras in “The Exorcist,” was originally unavailable to reprise his role in “The Exorcist 3: Legion,” so Brad Dourif took his place. A great deal of the movie was done with him as Karras/Patient X/Gemini Killer, but the studio was able to get Miller to return as the possessed priest, while Dourif reshot his Gemini Killer scenes.

Do not watch the directors cut of this movie because you will be absolutely disappointed. I'm shocked they even created such a mess with the directors cut and it doesn't even go together coherently because of how much is missing plus you don't get to understand the dynamics between the gemini killer and Father Carus. This is one directors cut I would never recommend to anyone unless you wanted to disappoint them.

Did you hear what you just jump scares? That didn't have enough jump scares. You were about to have a heart attack. And secondly, who wants a movie full of jump scares? That means that's poor writing jump scares equates. Poor writing, come on that, this is 2023. We don't need that stupid screen type. Movie stuff get over that you need to educate yourself and graduate yourself for less job scares and have a meeting fat writing of a movie. Anybody can do a jump scare. That stuff is for children.
