Parkitect Campaign (Part 12) - HappyCo Harbor - Dutch Port Park

  • HappyCo Harbor forces you to work in a tight space, amidst heavy industry, to build an attractive theme park with a good scenery rating and at least three thrilling coasters. It's been one of the most difficult scenarios for me by far - I documented my struggle here.
    And yes, I'm aware that my microhphone is still acting up. I just have no clue what's causing it, or how to fix it, beyond catching it when it happens and rerouting the USB cable. For now though, I don't think it's too bad.

    But Silvarret, unsightly cube building in the middle of plazas is one of our national traditions! It can't be a proper Dutch square without an ugly as sin frietkeet plonked right in the middle of it!

    Lol, Silvarret, you call this grueling and boring - but seeing you struggle really exposes your process! And is really cool to watch. Sure, it was a bummer to see you delete your Beautiful woody - but we've all been there, and your reasoning was sound. The pain was resonating, not like "oh this is boring". This is one of your best videos of the series!

    I do 100% agree to keep this game in isometric view. Getting the 3D camera mod makes the game look bad. And it's so beautiful if you keep it as intended. And props on how this park looks. So many nice stuff in so little small place!

  • @TheFunfighter
    @TheFunfighter 5 ปีที่แล้ว +6

    This episode was really good! The park felt all around interesting, yet believable. I think this was the best build of this scenario I've seen so far.
    Fun fact: When you get a "coaster" goal, the Car Ride counts as well. So do all other tracked rides I think. Completely caught me off-guard when I played the scenario, and was just trying to make some money from it.
    Your Steel Coaster was very efficient, because the ride time matched the station time. The throughput isn't really defined by how long a ride takes (assuming you use blocks), but by how many guests the station serves. If you adjust your blocks to the station time, you can reduce the times when no train is being served in the station. Also some optimisation like where to place the entrance on a station (ideally in the middle of the train), and keeping the station as short as possible.
    Also some more useless info: All coasters have a scenery affinity of up to +-10 Excitement, with the Mini Coaster and Powered Coaster having +-15.

    • @amandaburn9089
      @amandaburn9089 5 ปีที่แล้ว

      That's super useful to know! Especially since it seems that most of the money you can make off of the coasters is based around their Excitement rating.

    • @Silvarret
      @Silvarret  5 ปีที่แล้ว

      I knew some of this already, but thank you, lots of stuff here I didn't realise yet. Especially that car rides count as coasters - sounds like an oversight, I should alert the devs about that one...

    • @TheFunfighter
      @TheFunfighter 5 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@Silvarret The game probably just checks for tracked rides. The intense coasters goal would naturally exclude GoKarts, scenic and transportation rides and the Inverted Dark Ride, but you can easily get good Excitements on some of these.

  • @ScorpionSoldier17

    To provide an update on the Attractiepark Rotterdam project, it's still in the works but there have been various setbacks (quite a few of them). Structural issues with the main building which needed extensive repairs, multiple cancelled rides (the shuttle loop coaster and the Evolution were in storage in Germany, but would've costed millions to repair so they had to scrap them). They kept finding more issues with the rides in storage and more importantly, the site itself. It's currently still in the works, but repairs/infrastructure on site have costed 8 million euro's so far, with another 8 million estimate for remaining work.
    However, despite their intentions to resume work, the owner of the project's other ventures were sustaining financial losses, with the inflation of the budget for the park adding up to that, up to the point where he sold other assets to keep the project afloat. Honestly, I don't see the project ever making it to opening day (I pass the site weekly as well, which usually looks like a ghost town).

    • @hauntedshadowslegacy2826
      @hauntedshadowslegacy2826 4 ปีที่แล้ว

      Damn... Maybe they should've gone with a much simpler goal on the outset? Like, starting with one or two small flat rides and focusing on alternative attractions (e.g., an arcade). At the very least, a smaller approach would've given the ground more time to heal from the chemical poisoning of the land's prior use.

  • @GretgorPooper
    @GretgorPooper 3 ปีที่แล้ว

    Dude, this scenario was AWESOME! I had a lot of fun watching your video, and also had fun doing it myself. I'm really proud that I managed to beat the entire thing without buying more land.
    Having to build roller coasters on such a small space, plus a selection of flat rides to support them, on top of having to keep all the industrial stuff hidden from the guests' eyes, was quite a challenge. I built a small "town" along one of the borders of the park, and had to build a decorative apartment building to hide the industrial stuff from one of my lift hills. I had a steel coaster on top of the body of water, and a short floorless coaster (which is the one I had to use the apartment building to hide) which left me with too little space for anything else, but I eventually lucked out and unlocked monorail coasters, allowing me to finish the scenario.

    I loved that you kept in your rebuilding of the wooden coaster in the final cut. :) On compact parks like these it's actually really fascinating to watch you puzzle your way through building them, not boring AT ALL. Honestly you could probably put the whole uncut (but still sped up) footage on youtube and we'd love it. I'm admiring your use of the land here, I chickened out of building it too compact so I bought the land on the other side. ^^; These type of compact parks can be so overwhelming if you watch a bunch of vids of people plunking down rides and getting every right 'first try', and then you try and do it yourself and it doesn't work. You've inspired me to try this scenario again without buying the land on the other side. :)

    I went to Six Flags: Magic Mountain a few weeks ago and had to tell you. I don't know if this is common, but they have an App to tell you wait times and locations for all things, but also tells you who the manufacturer of each roller coaster is. I don't know what prompted them to do that, but I think it's good that they're highlighting the companies making these rides. I'd like to think people like you are an influence on that. It's definitely influenced me to care about such things. :)

    The way I dealt with the decoration was by just building the park mostly indoors.

    Minor correction: The Flight of Fears, Joker's Jinx, and Poltergeist are all identical models with only minor variations in blocking structure and station set ups.

    Could you please con sider pausing the game while building in a timelapse? It makes it easier to look at and you might have a chance at reaching the optional goals. Thanks for the great inspiring episodes!

      I think in one of the previous Parkitect episodes Silvarett kinda expanded on that he's in the mindset that you can't construct with time paused (à la RCT) and because he puts so much detailing into the parks it also helps to have a money flow for buying decorations and building pieces.

      What Amanda said; also, I personally like the timelapses more when you see guests and coasters going around the park in the background - and I don't care for the optional goals regardless, I try to do the scenarios by order as much as possible.

      So coasters prices are are multiplied by 2 whereas flat rides are by 1.5?

      @@amandaburn9089 Yeah in my experiences it's like 1.5 for flats, 2 for most coasters. Heavily deco/high intens/high excite you can push 2.25.
