CASCADE CREST 100 | Rugged Beauty

- The Cascade Crest 200 has been on my bucket list for many years. I'd entered its race lottery for a couple of years and this year I was finally selected to enter. I knew it would be a huge challenge less than 4 weeks removed from my finish at the Spine Race 268 Mile Race in the UK, but I felt up to it. Unfortunately, the 2023 course for the Cascade Crest had to be altered significantly due to trail work that blocked part of the course. As a result, the usual loop turned into an out-and-back course that started and finish at it usual location in Easton, Washington. However, after running the first 51 miles as usual, runners would turn around at Hyat aid station to return the same way they came rather than continuing on the traditional looped course.
I was lucky enough to have my friend Jay and his family offer to not only host me while In Washington, but to also crew and pace me at the race. I just wished things had turned out differently. Unfortunately, my race was over after 51 miles. However, since this year's edition was an out-and-back, I did get to enjoy the full course, even if only in one direction.
The rugged beauty of this race is undeniable and it is my hope that my experience does not deter but rather encourage others to take on the beautiful race. Just be sure to get to the startline of this beast fully recovered and rested, so you can collect that awesome buckle at the finish. - กีฬา
Great report! Beautiful scenery! I'm running it this year just wondering if they your crew was able to see the times you hit the early aid stations so they could figure out when to meet you at the Crewed aid stations
My crew just got to the aid station early as I wasn’t using my personal tracker for this race.
I love that your well-chosen music does not drown out the sound of your feet running on the trail. You capture the beautiful landscape so well. Thank you for sharing your thoughts as you are having them in trying to decide what to do. I find it helpful to hear someone else have this conversation with himself. Good job in every way. Glad to see your story. Bummer you pulled up short of the finish. Glad to see you enjoyed our trail work (the sunset and nice running you mentioned heading down to Yakima Pass.) From the "Beer Aid" / PCT trail crew guy, 2 miles short of Meadow Mtn Aid.
I remember you:-) you kindly let me sit on your cooler for a short reprieve and to remove rocks from my shoes:-) I should’ve enjoyed a beer:-(

That’s the plan, hopefully in 2025, summer 2024 is already tentatively booked for other adventures:-)

It’s not the first time and won’t be the last. That’s why we do these things. No point if finishes were guaranteed every time. If there is nothing else I learned in 150 ultras, I did learn that:-)
