I really love the classic covers with paintings or art work. It's so true that a cover can draw you in and I am often reluctant to read books with covers I don't like. I don't read much contemporary fiction, but I a few cover trends in contemporary I've noticed seem to annoy me, like the wispy, broad-strokes and bright colors covers that don't say anything about the book. I feel like that trend was really big for a few years, but it may be dying out.

@AmandaJHMorton When I'm in a bookstore with hundreds of books and have limited time to browse it is often the beautiful or striking covers that catch my attention and get me to pick up a book and read the summary. A beautiful book cover definitely does have advantages. I also try to get the most appealing cover of a book I like or want to read unless its a translated work, then I prioritize the translation.
I don't reach for contemporary fiction but I have spotted a few book covers that caught my eye. Aside from these few the rest don't really stand out. The trends you mentioned like the broad strokes and bright colors that have little to nothing to do with the story really do the books a disservice.

I think i might be a crow. Because im drawn to covers that are shiney! Im not a huge fan of ppl on the cover tho. If its not an old painting that has a meaning to the book. Otherwise im more for the minimalistic, preferly golden shiney, books. I normally only read classics. So i Collect the Barnes and nobles leatherbound classics. So darn pretty! Or the penguin classics ^^

@QueenOphiliaIII I love a good shiny foiled cover too. The Barnes and Noble leatherbound classics definitely have some gorgeous covers. I used to have that edition of The Arabian nights. I really ought to repurchase a copy in the future.
I’m a fan of the Penguin classics too! They’re my go to edition when it comes to buying classics.
      Thank you for watching 😊

You young people need to be careful about where this can lead. I was talking to a colleague at work the other week about how we have both ordered books from the U.S. and the U.K. because we didn't like the covers on the Canadian editions where we live.😁
(In fact, a book arrived in the mail from the U.K. just a few hours after I originally posted this .😁)
One design that was featured in the video that I don't like was for the Penguin English Library editions. The front covers are fine but I really don't like the look of the spines and I find the spines difficult to read.

@robsavage3217 I definitely need to tread carefully, especially when it comes to those UK editions.😅Since the only way I can get them is through online stores and international shipping I feel like I have some self restraint. If they ever brought them over here to the States and I could just pick them up at the store I might be a bit too weak willed then.
I agree, the PEL spines are harder to read compared to other classic editions. But since I have them all together on the on the shelf and I can recognize which color goes with which title I am more or less okay.
