  • Removing the exhaust seemed easy on this BMW but I was mistaken, took me a solid day in the end and some new tools. But it is done! Sounds great but could use a little more help on that fuel to air mixture!

    I spent time and money doing this modification with the dominator, it is almost equal to 0 compared to what the Akrapovic galleries do. In the end I spent 850 Euros and bought Akrapovic and the miracle happened: sound, power and torque.

      Akrapovic is the same end result for the exhaust system (excluding mufflers of course) when installing this decal middle pipe. However the middle pipe only works when all original filter elements have been removed from the original exhaust. Afterwards the airflow matches that of an akrapovic or any similar pre-made straight pipe exhaust. (and saves you hundreds of dollars)

      @@Bikerrep Oliver, you are starting from a wrong premise. You consider that if you remove the catalyst with the empty Dominator pipes, the middle pipes will be straight exactly like those from Akrapovic. But close to the engine block, the original Bmw pipes communicate through other pipes like this: cylinder 1 with 4 and 2 with 3, which means that the exhaust is not done directly. Do you understand where the differences come from?

      @Bikerrep  ปีที่แล้ว +2

      @@gabrib6591 you are correct, however having tuned the bike and measuring the exhaust flow it comes very close to that of the ‘smooth’ straight pipe system. The difference is not worth the hundreds of euros in my opinion. Perhaps on a race bike where every gain matters

    This mod is not illegal in the UK. Oliver, those header nuts are stock hardened brass, not copper. The reason BMW use them is to ensure that they don't corrode over time, and make removal with a socket impossible, also brass is less likely to seize onto the header studs.

    Yes,it was.I have confirmation from Dominator industry.

    Have same mod on my XR. Bit louder and more aggressive sound I haven't checked the power after the cat removal. My bike was tuned with the cat. I probably should get it done but it's quite expensive

    ik ben aan het kijken om juist de cat er weer onder te zetten. Bij langere ritten word ik gek van de herrie. In dynamic knalt het lekker als je gas dichtdraait.
    Tegenwoordig alleen maar op road zodat die wat minder herrie maakt. geen zin in WOK status.

    Looks like they intentionally made that mod a royal pain in the ass. So crazy how much stuff needs to be taken apart just to drop the exhaust and then when you the center stand bites you. Enjoy that sound of freedom!

    Heel vet! Zou dit ook wel willen doen. Maar tegelijkertijd heb ik ook geen zin in gezeik met teveel geluid. Heb zelfs nog de stock uitlaat erop bij mij 🥲

    • @Bikerrep
      @Bikerrep  ปีที่แล้ว

      Dan kan je het beste het fabriek systeem verwijderen en bewaren, dan een straight pipe systeem plaatsen. Op die manier kan je de standaard uitlaat houden met de DB killer, op deze manier heb je een top geluid met ook daadwerkelijk PK verhoging

    hello
    Do you remember maybe, was the smaller pipe (which enter to the bigger pipe) on the end of DCAT,welded and taped inside of the bigger pipe? Just right on the joint but from inside. Or was is free flow?
    Thank you and regards

    Thanks for the nice video mate:)
    I am wondering, how and if you are able to pass successfully the bi-yearly inspection which includes measuring the emissions?
    I live in Germany where regulation is strict and I am not sure if I will be able to pass the inspection if I de-cat the bike..

    • @Bikerrep
      @Bikerrep  ปีที่แล้ว

      Im not too sure if you’d pass. I know some bikes in Germany are sold with a straight pipe and pass the TUV inspection, however the pipes come with a certificate. DECAT is different as it does not have a certificate but is technically part of the original pipe. You could see a tuner who has a particle measurement tool and check if it’s within the legal limit.

    Hey, What can be done to "ReCat" the bike? Would you have to weld it back together or some link clamps will do the trick? Also, did you use exhaust paste or was it dry mount, plug and play? Thank you!

    • @Bikerrep
      @Bikerrep  ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Welding is possible but you have to make sure that the filter element inside the box allows air flow. Most of the time when you cut the element it folds the small vents sideways, if you weld it back into place like this it could be catastrophic for your engine.
      If you can straighten the element AND weld it back together (best using TIG) then it could work but it would never have its full potential again.
      Best would be to purchase a used stock exhaust, that way you have 1 exhaust open and one with a cat.
      For mounting this exhaust I used the included clamps and no paste. You could use paste but I have found no air leaks on mine.

    Seems some amount of work, my multistrada was so simple to do, half an hour and that was it, couldnt you just cut the cat from underneath and save yourself the trouble of stripping everything?

    • @Bikerrep
      @Bikerrep  ปีที่แล้ว +4

      A part of the oil pan sits in between the exhaust, a grinder can't reach there unless cutting into the oil pan..
