  • This phenomenal vintage 1959 Les Paul Custom 3-Pickup Black Beauty is certainly a head turner, and for good reason! This "fretless wonder" is a piece of history, sporting the traditional Les Paul Custom "tuxedo" look that would become iconic in it's own right. Tonally, this incredible vintage treasure is about as vocal as it can get, with an ultra resonant body that gives back everything you put in to it with an incredible dynamic response.
    The neck position is extremely creamy, but articulate, never losing composure or note definition under a heavy attack. Flip to the middle position and you'll find exceptional cut and clarity, with the bridge and middle pickup out of phase, producing glorious "quack" and expressive push in the upper midrange. The bridge pickup is exceptionally thick, with excellent punch and an extremely vocal high end, lending itself to soaring single note runs with gobs of harmonic content.
    The Wildwood Staff is honored to present this vintage treasure to our exceptional customers, and we invite you to discover the magic of a vintage late 50s Gibson instrument.

    My guitar teacher had a 59' I got to play, he ended up selling it to Greg Allman in 1982. Dont ask me what a keyboard player want with a 59, but he came to his house in a blue Cadillac and jammed in his basement. If I remember it went for 6k back then. They didnt bring stupid money yet.

    I've watched Greg demo about 100 or so Les Pauls, and though I love Customs, this one doesn't sound any better than many of the others I've seen him play. Vintage schmintage.

      I often am skeptical, Gibson makes a very expensive coffee tale these days, whether it's any good tone wise but this old one has a ginchiness to the tone I think you only get with weakened pickups and dry old wood. It's freaky. But other cheaper guitars can be freaky.

      Chipp Chipperson another gibson hater crybaby. This guitar sounds like it has blanket over it. Probably pickup magnets discharged to oblivion. Fret buzz was absolutely unbelievable! Not a nice sounding one. Check out guitars of perry, green or mardsen. Blanketless tone is better for sure. New gib will slay this muddy blanket tone all day. Gary Moore's 35 million views burstbucker gibson bfg video is nice proof.

  • @adamwatson6916
    @adamwatson6916 6 ปีที่แล้ว

    they have s unique sound that sets them apart from the vintage sunburst les pauls. modern les pauls and modern gibson pickups even the custom shop pups just don't have the clarity and richness that the pafs and vintage gibsons had. very cool vintage tone . those pafs have a slightly mellow tone very sweet.

    • @Gretev1
      @Gretev1 5 ปีที่แล้ว +3

      WiserInTime I actually did! I don‘t understand the flack the middle position gets. I love the nasally tone in an LP custom. People criticize this tone yet simultaneously rave about Peter Greens out of phase tone and the two are very similar if not identical.

    • @j_freed

      Especially if you Peter Green the front pickup.

    What a beauty. One thing Gibson Custom doesen't get right on the reissue's are the frets. Having owned many vintage LP'S i have to say i really prefer the smaller 50's frets.

    it would be helpful to play this 59 Gibson through a Fender Hot rod Deluxe . Tone King , Blackstar Ht-1 , Fender Mustang 1 , Fender Deluxe Reverb , Epiphone Junior . That way i could at least know how it sounds through amps that i have used and am familiar with to compare . But it it is a lovely vintage sounding axe .

    I thought bending was out with fretless wonders. Refretted?

    • @MattyK-USA
      @MattyK-USA 6 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      I'll be your huckleberry. No refretting needed. Put a finger behind wherever you're bending and fret there. Then bend to your heart's content with the forefinger, so to speak. Plus, that whole "fretless and can't bend" thing is a little exaggerated as far as I'm concerned anyway. Then again, I'm an anonymous commenter on TH-cam. Then again again, I can spell "anonymous" and that has to count for something. Fellas!!!

    • @kazhi959
      @kazhi959 5 ปีที่แล้ว

      I have a guitar those exact same frets and indeed you can bend, but it takes a bit more juicy from the player if you know what I mean, as Preacher Koch would have said. Happy holidays mates

    resoldered pickup covers. resoldered pot wiring, crimped wire shielding. i played this guitar for over an hour, once. was told it was all original and untouched... the pictures tell the truth. this is why you don't let novice techs touch instruments... though whomever checked the pickups did solder to the old solder, instead of cooking pickups, but still... salesmen rip you off, and that is what you have here.... when i played this guitar it was the best sound i ever heard. it sung. it gave to me everything i ever imagined and wanted. i didn't work for it. but you don't trust people in colorado... take my word for it. THIS IS NOT WHAT I WAS TOLD IT WAS. someone wanted to know if it had zebras. someone wanted to do this or that.

      Bigsby and three HB's affect that. Also, the '59 Bursts are considered the real shizznit and they are more like 500K+ at this point. Which means your statement is still true :) Now go price an original run Flying V. Lordy.

      Custons and Standards completely different animals.No maple cap on a Les Paul custom and an ebony fingerboard.Much brighter and heavier than a standard.My verdict? Grab a nice used Standard,put great aftermarket PAFs in it and save yourself $496,000

    The playing is amazing as usual, the tone is underwhelmingly average when compared to an off the shelf Les Paul you can buy today, but I guess it's the "mojo" that makes it special.

    Once again...I don't see the big deal from a sound perspective. I don't buy in to the vintage hype. It might have value from a collection aspect, but there is no such thing as magic. I think old cars are cool/fun, but give me a new one to actually use.

      I disagree. I bought a Les Paul Standard from one of my fave players Victor Griffin, who I'm proud to say is a friend of mine. Guitar has tons of mojo...most of my colleagues have borrowed it to put on their own records. Mojo is real.

      Larry King Gary Moore made 35 000 000 views youtube video using modern gibson bfg equipped with burstbuker 1 and 2. Other versions with his peter green 59 can't show such result. So your comment is pure trash of typical crybaby gibson hater.
