    I like that you not only show the settings but how to control the auto refresh--thanks!!

    Excellent! The more comfortable I get using FreeCAD workbenches, then I want to learn more. I keep coming back just to move the knowledge bar upwards! Thanks Darren

      hey! i am only comfortable with part-design, sketch, and maybe the spreadsheet one too.
      i tried assembly, but couldn't get it to work comfortably.
      what else would u suggest to learn to make freecad much more capable?

    THX. IMO that should be a default setting, as auto-update is an abundant and expected feature on nowaday's CAD.

    • @andrewshkolik

      It made by purpose. Some of us working with pretty complex models and even small change could lead to the long time recalculation of entire model. Sometimes I even disable update of the model for some edits and enable only when I done editing all I need, just to save some wait time. And answering not asked question - my PC pretty fast - i9, 32g ram and ssd...

    • @SoenkePeters

      @@andrewshkolik that's a strong point. But as a qualified user working with complex models, you are - IMO - the one who should adjust the appropriate settings. A more user-friendly FreeCAD could even come up with a suggestion to do this when the recomputing interval takes more than maybe 400ms. I have highest repect for those devs who work on FreeCAD, but for me the software is a bad dream in terms of UX.

    My first thought is what happens when a change in a sketch affects some external reference down the flow including face numbering. I suspect that updating stalls until the references are repaired as usual.

    why is ti that when i creat a part in Part Design then go try to convert it to an A2plus part it dissapears ?

    • @MangoJellySolutions

      The part is made hidden and a a2 part is created that is linked to that part. A2 plus parts have a set of properties of their own such as if it's a fixed position part. The two are linked so if you update the original it will update the other. You will need to use the update parts in assembly button for that to happen.

    it's kind of nuts these are even settings, who decides that everyone gets the worst defaults, they should have some usability targets

    NOW you tell me! Settings should be a series of show and tell…

    • @MangoJellySolutions

      That's a good idea, some of the settings are a bit obscure to say the least.

    • @philnelson2364

      That's what happens when you have a cooperative project like this. Lot's of people are involved and things are added without a group to make an explanation in a text with examples etc. You essentially have to find out for yourself what's available.

    • @MangoJellySolutions

      @@philnelson2364 I have also found that developers are not very good at documenting at that high level of how to use the feature. I know this as part of my day job involves trying to get the devs I work with to try to do it. Can understand, if you been working on a feature for months and you finally finish it, the last thing you want to do is document it. But it doesn't help the users.

      @@MangoJellySolutions When I started developing remote car starters and alarms, I was the one that created all of the functions used by, not only the user but for the installers as well. When I started, there was a shipper/receiver, the owner and a few sub contractors/installers. I was the one that had to document the functions for the users and installers and, also translate it into french and create the documents for the repair and service personnel as well. When the company grew to over 50 employees, I had to design departments, heads of dept., communications between depts. etc. So I had to document everything for the new engineers, technicians, marketing staff etc. I think it occupied a lot of time but, I made sure everything was spelled out correctly and completely... On the other hand, I was paid to do it and not a volunteer so, I can't exactly accuse the developers of not being thorough.

    Wow those settings look rather clunky and unpredictable in their operation. Not bad for free software though. I use Altium Designer every day, which costs £thousands, and that's even more unpredictable in some of its behaviour.

    • @MangoJellySolutions

      The settings are a bit of a love it or hate it one. Personally I would love a short cut key to turn these settings on or off in an instant.
