    For anyone wondering about the TNP fix and release date - work on TNP sped up but they still need a few more months. Another team is working on a built-in assembly workbench. In February (during the Hackathon) they should decide whether to release 1.0 when both milestones are reached or release something like 0.99 with the currently implemented features for now. They concluded that it depends on when 1.0 can be ready. If in a few months, meaning around a year from the release of 0.21 (August 2023) then it doesn’t make sense to release an intermediate version. Hopefully, that will be the case and TNP or assembly works won’t extend significantly beyond that time. They are also working on a large overhaul of the material system but most of that is done. The next release after 1.0 will focus on UI improvements and smaller missing features which makes sense to me.

    I think a really good feature in the new 0.22 version is the text justification. For example, the draft->ShapeString can now be centered as Middle-Center. This is so good! :)

    I'm still using the "Link branch" version by RealThunder mostly. It just working when I split the Body in two or more part is so helpful. As is the "pad to face" in Part Design which doesn't stop at a single plane while extruding past it into infinity, but stops "at where something else sits in its path".
    I'm curious as to what will make it into 0.22. Same for the topological nameing - RealThunder isn't perfect, and I can imagine it is not good enough yet - but it is a great improvement.

      As an update to my comment I can say that I'm using the weekly dev 0.22 for some time now and it works waaaay better than the 0.21. Yes I know there's a risk involved but all my designs are automatically backed up so if anything fails I can go right back to a previous version and open it in 0.21 without problems.

      It's great that FreeCAD exists so people like myself can learn how to use these types of programs, for free, and create our own things at home.

    The coders need to simplify some functions. I used an old version of Bobcad (just after DOS). In a crowded drawing you could move the cursor near a what you wanted to select, press P to highlight a point then left mouse button to select, 1 click, press L for line, A for arch, etc Freecad really needs this for the point selection. Also the array function was super simple, you selected the object, clicked which side you wanted the array copy, a box popped up the asked for the INCREMENTAL distance how many iterations up/down, left/right, and done..basically the same for the offset command too.

    Oh wow, I really like the transparency mode. The freecad team has been making great progress the last year or so. Is there a release date for .22, does anyone know?
    Thanks for covering this mango!

    • @glabifrons
      @glabifrons 11 หลายเดือนก่อน +2

      FreeCAD has had transparency for a very long time, the difference is that it's easier to get to now.
      In pre-0.22 versions, you select the part and type control-D to get to the color and transparency dialog.
      It's not a big change, but it's a very welcome one as being able to toggle it via a hot-key means a SpaceBall button can be assigned to it as well. :)
      A lot of what the devs have been doing are making using FreeCAD a lot more efficient.

    10:15 Again: RGB stands for XYZ. Here these colored planes let you move an object along as plane with a fixed -color- coordinate. E. g. the green plane alters X (red) and Z (blue) but not the Z (blue) coordinate of the selected object. - Nice feature. I also like the "fast transparency" because it savey a lot of key strokes ans mouse clicks.

    I'm just getting started with fc and at the start, still even, it annoys me with calling extrude "pad". I use many modelers and parametric packages and have never seen this. It behaves oddly as well which i believe sets it back. I really can't take the increasing prices of fusion and the others out there, so I'm putting in the time to learn this approach. I do hope to see this grow like blender did and give fusion and creo a run for their money. With that said, i will be donating to this project in hopes that it does.
