A machine shop that I once worked in got a new used 100ton press. So one night we got the bright idea to see how flat we could make a soda can. We did use a rope for the control's. And pushed it to Max preassure. The table pins sheared off and press parts flew out like a bomb had went off. Needless to say we spent the night building new press parts. Before the bosses showed up in the morning.

But it's done with a laser that scans the shape or barcode of the can/bottle and because it's automated, they have to be in good shape so that you can't put a rock in and that registering as a can

If the max pressure was 100 tons the press was defective. The margin of safety should have let you get to 115 tons with no failures.
