    It is incredible, for me, that you say to "absorb" the air instead of pushing it out with strength, because several years ago I was in a rehearsal of a clarinet concerto and the clarinetist played so beautiful that I thought "sound like If he was absorbing air instead of pushing it... It is crazy". So I was right!

    That's so interesting! I'm also a singer and I immediately recognised this tip as something we call 'inhalare la voce'. So basically the same idea! So great to find these similarities after so many years 😊

    Oh my that makes PERFECT SENSE. I have previously practiced the enesco alot and that kind of "sucking in the notes" concept is exactly how I began to feel I should articulate the low notes, thanks so much!

    I've heard this tip before. It never really made much sense. Maybe I was doing anyway without even knowing it. Thank goodness the low register was never really a problem. Thank you Nina. I'm now subscribed to you.

    I really like the low register of the flute ! I love to play low notes ! It sounds so beautiful ! I can feel the air in my flute with my fingers, I love this feeling ! But I don't make many articulations when I play in the lower register.

    I am not sure that I get what you mean by "absorbing the air". It is not sucking in; drawing produces no sound. Is more like opening one's throat?
    I have trouble with attacking low C, and low B is even more sluggish. I love your tip about popping the G finger for an attack. (Takes practice). That sounds like it is borrowed from beat box.
    My Yamaha Allegro flute responds pretty easily on low B and low C, but my Boston Legacy (which I use almost exclusively because it has a darker sound) has a very slow attack on low B and low C. So I really need to strengthen my technique on those notes. When I add my low B-flat extension, I need to work even harder to get that note.

    The 2nd "d" is not in the 2nd register. Because it's vented, i.e. l.h. 1 is open, it's still in the 1st or fundamental register. If it's played like a low register note, there will be no problem in making the descending octave. When students believe that they're changing registers for that octave, that's when the low "d" doesn't speak easily.

    What about a C# D# trill. This seems to be impossible on the flute. Or there might be a work-around on the middle and upper register but not on the lower register so far as I can tell.

    I'm having trouble getting low C out loud is there any way I can get it out without making it go high???

    • @michaelladerman2564
      @michaelladerman2564 7 ปีที่แล้ว

      Nina hasn't replied yet, so I'll reply from my point of view. I think Nina would say you should suck air in. I would say that playing loud in the lower register is not about blowing more air; it's about perfectly angling the air. I would recommend for you to practice the low C and other low notes while looking in the mirror. Find the best angle of blowing for each note at each dynamic. You may find that you actually need more air to play soft, but that you have to angle the air more across/up and less down into the hole, whereas to get the loudest low C you can play, you need way less air than you think but have to angle it down below the bottom of the far wall of the embouchure hole.
      Also, if you are having unusual trouble in getting the low C out in general, take it to a flute repair person, because the fault could very well be in a leak in the pads, not the player.

    • @gcg8187
      @gcg8187 7 ปีที่แล้ว

      Yaneese Baldwin just practice, you'll figure it out within 7 days if you show commitment. if ur not willing to practice until u get it well, try the other guys comment for direction.

    • @carpedekem
      @carpedekem 6 ปีที่แล้ว

      Yaneese, perhaps you've solved this problem, but in case you haven't, I'll respond, too. 1) Low notes, esp C, are next to impossible if there are any leaks in your pads or if you've got an open-hole flute and aren't covering them completely. 2) If that isn't the problem, try a) dropping your jaw a bit and b) thinking of directing your air stream down more than you normally do, almost at your chin. I recently got a Pneumo Pro (www.blockiflute.com/Pneumo-Pro-_p_1.html), which is a device that helps you to understand where and how to direct your air stream to get different octaves. Even though I've played flute for a long time, I was surprised at how far down you really need to direct the air stream to get low notes, almost as if you're blowing into the embouchure hole rather than across it. My lower register has become easier and more secure now that I understand that more clearly.
