For those who do not know, whenever a cardiac arrest call is entered into the 911 system at SMFR. A Medical supervisor or "EMS District Supervisor" is sent to the call to help with consoling family, CPR, using an AED, or using an ultrasound device. If a medical supervisor is not available a Battalion chief form that specific battalion (if available) will be sent as they also carry the same advanced ultrasound equipment to find movement in the heart.

If anyone is from SMFR or knows about the structure of their response. I've got one question. Why do they respond code to everything? I can understand a structure fire, medical emergency, MVA with injuries,Wildland fire, police request. Around here in Montana we don't respond code to an incident unless we know there's either injuries or an active fire. If it's like a smoke investigation I could see that too. But for incidents such as a minor car accident with no injuries or a smoke alarm going off, is that just how SMFR operates? They are such a great department I love them. But I've also been told if everything is an emergency then a lot of things aren't a life threatening emergency. My question is that. Is this just how SMFR operates with responses or is it up to the chiefs and command personnel when they respond code vs non code.
