False memories of childhood abuse are indeed a real problem. I know because I have very severely suffered from such false memories for many years. But I can verify that finding the right treatment is thankfully always possible. Thank you, Kevin, for addressing this issue.

I'm thinking these false memories can be used to manipulate and control people. Don't give in to anger, sadness or any bad feelings. Do you believe in God? I do.
If you haven't, please accept Jesus Christ as your personal saviour.

@@Cutelife2.0-i9y It mostly started with medications that were all wrong for me due to misdiagnoses of my conditions. Sadly some medications meant to help people can do more harm than good both physically and mentally.
As for how I learn to defeat the false memories, it chiefly comes down to trusting my intuitive memory. Much like how a blind person learns to view the world through his or her other senses. I know it's possible for me because otherwise the false memories would have killed me.
I hope this helps you because I always have faith that our human power to see the truth can in one way or another always count for something. Godspeed.

I remember when my sister was getting her PhD. Today she’s a lead therapist at an Ivy League.
When she began her graduate studies in psychology, suddenly my mother became the cause of any issue she’d had. It was terrible. My poor mom. And today we no longer speak. She told me 6 months ago that she has t wanted anything to do with me for 15 years. I asked, what happened 15 yrs ago? Our children were ages 3 & 5. We would meet for family vacations that we’re wonderful. My photo albums are full of those times.
    Nothing happened.
I do not believe therapy is beneficial. For me, that is. It hasn’t ever been ever, looking back. But I’d keep up with it.
I had a therapist in the 90’s that had me wondering if my father abused me. I wondered, did he? The thought of it was so disturbing, confusing.
    It was planted.
No, he did not. He simply did not ever abuse me.
And absolutely nothing happened between my only sibling and myself. Except we had beautiful visits with all our 5 children once or twice a year. I live on the west coast, she in the east.
    But we no longer speak?
False memory can be crippling. Today one of my kids is in a graduate program for forensic science and criminal Justice. One of the professors is a leader in False Memory. She was expert witness in the McMartin pre school trial where many small children were questioned in such leading ways the McMartin family and employees went through a nation widely watch trial and the children claimed all sorts of satanic rituals, absurd accounts. Terrible.

Memories of abuse cannot be induced, "false memories", also known as "false memory syndrome" is false, this concept is not psychologically proven, it is a concept created by those accused of child abuse, this concept was not created under any psychological, clinical, psychiatric study, it is not known It is not based on studies nor was it developed under observation about traumatic memories, this is very serious and should not appear on a channel that informs, because this leads to misinformation, and harm is done, "it is not easy to induce memories of abuse and whoever believes it is believing the lie of ped0*il*s", there is a very important case of Lynn Crook, she has a book called False Memories: The Deception That Silenced Millions by Lynn Crook. She criticizes the topic of "false memory syndrome", demolishes arguments with evidence about the "false memories" that many people are believing and that cause harm. This "false memory syndrome" is a lie, it is not recognized by any association or psychological institution. This only caused harm to victims.

I mean no disrespect, but help me understand what exactly is meant by "not psychologically proven"? I for one know for a fact that I have false memories, although none of them are of any relevance. But especially about my childhood, I have many absolutely impossible memories. And not even the knowledge that they are impossible makes them seem less real to me. I also have memories that are perfectly possible but that I only recalled after being told the facts, sometimes more than once. Again, not doubting your science or the point, just help me see the source of such conviction.

I know someone who got hypnotherapy and suddenly started remembering things about extremely violent SA in her childhood. Many stories she told seemed highly unlikely (due to being physically impossible) and other stories were easily proven to be false by official documents and medical records. She still insists it really happened though, because she “now remembers”.

Why would a Coroner's officer talk about a deceased person having claimed to be abused with their father? This doesn't make sense and it's unlikely a Coroner's employee would get into something like this - it's nothing to do with them. This is all about false memory - well there isn't any proof that these telephone calls went like that.

I am a doctor for over 20 years and, as far as I know, whoever on the hospital staff were to call the family likely would bring that issue up, given the circumstances. Especially back in the day. I understand this may not be considered a "by the book" procedure, depending on where you are, but from my real world live on the field it is more than expected. Not saying the guy is not lying just talking about my experience.

I wish that this poor man had not gone so far as to say that repressed memory does not exist. He would do well to read some of Bessel Van der Kolk’s writing on particular instances of childhood trauma and the lasting impact they can have on the human brain.
However, implanted false memories are a disturbing phenomena, and have been proven to exist. The trauma that is being described here in Carole’s childhood would have left her most likely suffering from a dissociative disorder, and accompanying physical somatic symptoms from childhood (urinary tract infections, unexplained pain, bleeding) aside from a myriad of psychological issues that would have lead to an earlier detection of mental distress, although not necessarily pinpointing the precise cause.

Bessel van der Kolk was one of the key players in the Satanic Panic. He’s been associated with the ISSTD for decades. The International Society for the Study of Trauma and Dissociation was established by Bennett Braun, one of 🇺🇸 most notorious Satanic Ritual Abuse & recovered memory conspiracy therapists, during the Satanic Panic.
Bessel writes books about memories being stored in body parts. That you should tell you all you need to know about him.

@@paddleed6176 If repressed memories exist, then repression exists. If repression exists, maybe Freud and psychoanalysis are right about some things. But wait! That doesn't mesh with our simplified CBT scientific understanding of psychology. You then have the option to either reconsider the current models you have for understanding psychology, you know - the ones that get you all this grant money due to their guise of being scientific, or you can say this pretty well established phenomenon doesn't exist at all and the thousands upon thousands of stories from people who've experienced it are all lying. Trust the science!!!
