I think you put it well here dude. It’d be completely mad to stop expansions and the people saying that they’re going away aren’t seeing the full picture I think. But man… it is concerning to see so many great devs leave.
another person in the comments mentioned its normal to see workers move from job to job in any field to climb the economic ladder. i think thats what these devs are doing, and id think bungie would be smart enough to already have new people in place

It makes sense that devs would leave after the end of this 10 year saga. Many may have wanted to move on for a while, but just staying on to make it to the end of this saga.
If they were taking the expansion team off expansions to work on D3, and they told us this is why we are not getting expansions for a couple of years, I'd be happy, as long as the episodes get a bit more resources into them
We may no longer get yearly expansions, but i hope at the very least we get expansions every 18 months, or even every 2 years. This would give Bungie time to really make the expansions impactful, while also using the episodes as ways to avoid massive content droughts.
Agreed, but with all that time, I hope Bungie keeps making episodes better and better (because right now they aren't so hot) and in those episodes, we explore places that we have never explored before, like the ruins of Earth or maybe even entirely new planets in Sol.

@@ryanrobins945 Okay first off, ive barely played the seasonal activities this season (about once or twice) so i havent even been really playing the episodes. Secondly, you cant deny its not feeling like a season so far, so my hope act 2 ramps things up. Its not about me playing too much, its just that the content is overall lacking so far. But idk thats just my opinion.
In the non-gaming tech world, it was normal to see engineers in Silicon Valley move from job to job after only a couple of years or less. And for anyone looking to "climb the ladder", moving on to new opportunities was usually the quickest way.

Bungie only said that the Light and Dark saga was ending. They never said the franchise was ending.
Also Sony would have gotten so mad about the delays if there weren’t major plans going forward….

@@chillhour6155 If you bothered to follow up, they hired more people than they laid off shortly after that. They laid off a lot of useless departments like the women@bungie and trans@bungie, things that add literally no value to the company or game.

One dev doesnt make a game no matter how high up the ladder she was. If you start seeing MASS layoffs at bungie then maybe start to panic but untill then we chilling also sony didnt pay BILLIONS for bungie for them to just stop supporting the only game they have on the market.

Honestly a destiny 3 would probably be better than keeping up with D2. The opportunity to get newer servers, game engine, overhaul mechanics/interfaces, and a fresh story start is kinda what destiny needs cause the episodes look like to wrap up big loose ends like Eramis, Fanatic, and Xivu then after that there isnt much we could do episode wise.
Bungie said there’s no big yearly dlc yet what’s frontiers? We have a glimpse with a new cutscene of saint talking about exploring the universe but that sounds like a big dlc with a new planets to explore

@@localprime8868 Pick up a game, play all the content then move on to the next thing. Destiny 2 is literally a job for some players who seem to constantly forget that it's live service game. Which means sunsetting is inevitable unless they make a new game to push the franchise forward, while simultaneously preserving all the old content in D2 for players to still enjoy

These departures are only happening because TFS released. I don’t think it’s time for alarm bells yet. Bungie just wrapped a major piece of their flagship, of course people want to take a breather and move on to the next chapter of their lives. As for D3: I think we’ll be lucky to see an announcement for it by late 2026. D3 just feels like something that still isn’t for a long time. Slate it for 2030s.

Im guessing the next expansion will be September-october time if not later. A 1.5 yearish cycle seems best to me.
1.5 seems good for the health of the game and the health of the employees at bungie. i think more downtime between content would be good because that’s when the community gets the most creative i find
@RoboThePanda Especially if they keep up with into the light-esque updates. Pantheon was the most fun I've ever had in this game, onslaught was a great addition too. They could probably do something with strikes too, who knows.
It doesn't have to be "new" content all the time, adding playlists for a month or two like pantheon is great for the game.

Is that like some sort of dig or something? I personally dont mind that it takes that long, I really dont play many video games anymore what with work and other hobbies and stuff, and honestly I dont think I could keep up with Destiny if expansions came faster. I get that playing games is really important for people and that a lot of people ONLY have video games, but ya do gotta know most people arent like that, though I do feel for ya as someone who used to do nothing but play destiny, but is waiting a few more months for something really that badly difficult?

@@paulg3686It is a valid complaint, bungie often delays things, why even have a release date if they’re always late? Although I do agree I’d rather wait extra time if it means the content will be good, but for the past couple years the content has been very inconsistent, witch queen and tfs were good but beyond light, shadowkeep, and light fall were so bad, especially light fall.
i rather it be 1.5 years then 1 years if that means we get final shape every time rather then lightfall 💀

Canonically it makes sense but it also doesn't at the same time. I mean The Dreadnaut can rip holes through space time because it travels through the Ascendant Plane like all Hive Ships. But that ship is still tied to Oryx Throne World and moving it or putting it in any kind of danger has the implication of collapsing all of physical reality around it. That is what The Shield Brothers were trying to do In the D1 Strike was detonate the core. I think Mara or Eris or both said that destroying the ship could destroy the entire Sol system.
I mean…..after the witness died I kinda checked out of the story 😅

Marathon has it's own team unrelated to Destiny's, it's also a completely different game catoring to a different audience
If you think marathon has anything to do with destiny being “abandoned” then you’re delusional, yes it probably has indirectly affected money invested in the destiny ip but destiny is a one in a million game that has practically created its own genre at this point, they won’t ever let this game go for however long they can at least.
@@ballaxx3150Id give it until the next quarterly report. By the time the episode ends, Sony will know how profitable and viable Bungie's gameplan is. They need to pull a magic trick at this point. It isnt about simply face numbers either. They will see the dismal player retention and base their decision off of that.
@@ballaxx3150 agreed. perhaps having to spend money on marathon tied up capital that would go to destiny 2, but the reason they are making marathon is because destiny generates so much excess revenue that they feel it would be better spent making an additional game. its the same logic behind companies giving dividends to shareholders.

Anyone remember that development roadmap that released sometime last year? It showed something being developed along side The final shape. Also, they usually have a reveal stream around six months from the release of an annual expansion so i wouldnt expect anything this august
I really wish they have a dedicated year to rest and unvault everything from DCV then add the last raid left from D1, to build the foundation of the game so the game isn't confusing for the new light players. Then we can move on to whatever happen next whether is D3 or something new.

Considering the meaning of the word frontier, it likely will be about beginning golden age exploration once again, probably beyond Sol, or at least I hope so. There’s also a couple planets still chilling in the void like Io and mercury, and possibly many other planets that the witness put in there.
Honestly want them to take a break, set stuff up, act 2 and 3 having the meat of the content makes me more optimistic for episodes, and id rather not risk them going into a new whole expansion a year after, make frontiers something like age of triumphs for 3 episodes, every single raid gets a loot refresh, armor refresh idk just a year of building on what we currently have in the game, and while we do that they work on something big, be it the next expansion or D3 idk, i just feel like the game itself has alot of stuff it needs, it just needs to be fleshed out.
Give us planetary vendor refreshes, sprucing up europa would be nice because outside of deep stone crypt is there any reason at all to even own beyond light, stasis is free and everything. Just focus these "episodes of triumph" on giving us raid refreshes, planetary refreshes strike reworks idk you name it.
I would hope they could fit in some raid re-releases from D2 as well. I would think those would be easier to bring back since they were in the game already.
@@billywerber9117 It's kinda crazy that there's FIVE D2 raids vaulted when you think about it. I didn't play much in beyond light except at release. I can't imagine how bare it was for content on release. What's it have, 2 raids?
@@beeman4266 Yeah, that was a big problem on release from what I can tell (I only came back from D1 in Shadowkeep). Especially with the static rolls that were present on weapons.
@@beeman4266 Yeah like, maybe drop 1 or 2 of those each "episode" maybe all the leviathan and leviathan raid lairs in one age episode, along with age of triumhp esque armor for all of them, another episode could have scourge of the past return alongside wrath of the machine and its age of triumph armor.
All I know is Luke Smith came out and said they were gonna talk about what was to come soon, in one of those Final Shape vidocs. That doesn't scream dialing back to me, if anything with all the negative feedback Marathon got from that group of streamers, it wouldn't surprise me if they put more people back on Destiny and slowed down production on Marthon.
It’s possible but I don’t think we will but hopefully there’s an event for when Destiny 3 is about to come out where you play and rank up a vendor to get stuff that you’ll receive when Destiny 3 comes out like a shader, armor transmog set, legendary or exotic ghost shell, etc.
I think Frontiers will either be another set of episodes or another update similar to into the light.

I think a destiny 3 is likely simply for a new engine and fresh code. Like how much longer can they keep adding to D2 until the game code can’t handle it
Personally I don’t want it cause it be a clean slate for us and I’d rather keep all the stuff I’ve spent ages to get.
Idk this gives em the opportunity to introduce the 4th race that was cut. As in Frontiers we are exploring further out. Gives opportunity for that races enemy so new enemy etc etc

Too big of a deal about this - gamedev is a collaborative team effort. One employee leaving, no matter the position, is still one person out of the dozens and hundreds that work on the game.>
Her leaving is also an opportunity for people to get promoted and bring fresh efforts into it.
i hope just like how the last season in a content year is typically the best, bungie will be changing more of the seasonal model into the true episodic model as we get more episodes because they’ll have the most time to develop them

sometimes the best way to really change up the game content is to bring in new people, as sad as it is to see the ones we’ve been with go
I think it's a definite yes just because you're not going to just drop one of your biggest money makers like that. I really think it'll be the 3 episodes we got now, kinda light expansion(start of Frontiers), 3 episodes, mid expansion, 3-4 episodes, major expansion, then maybe an epilogue episode or two all the while we've slowly gone further through the frontiers and then transition into D3 being in the unknown. Something like that idk. Very unfortunate about Catarina she is great and it does suck but she'll do great. I am curious though, I definitely wanna see what they do next no matter what.
I think TFS is the last annual expansion we see but not the last expansion. I think its still too long until D3 for them to not do expansions regardless of whether or not D3 is a PS5/XBOXS game or next gen. I think past delays have just made them realize its best not to promise anything on release times until they are close. I could also see there being some discussions on whether or not its better to focus resources one big release or several throughout the year with Episodes depending on how big they get.
It is a shame about catarina leaving. Loved seeing and hearing her excitement in vidocs and previews vids.
TFS was the best expansion they have released. The director is going to be a hot commodity and good for her! Also, they would be throwing away a cash cow and failing to capitalize on the best expansion by continuing.

I have a feeling we'll get another yearly expansion
and this expansion has to give us the last darkness subclass because we're likely leaving the sol system and leaving all the weird pyramid stuff behind, the only untapped mental power we haven't touched is the nightmares and darkness subclasses are usually related to the mind and nightmares are chaotic and entropic rather than stasis with full control and strand with no control
so I hope we get nightmares before next expansion
I’m not convinced they can continue yearly expansions without a sequel. They’d have to sunset every location in order to make story flow and space for content.
I think bungie will continue to crank out expansions as long as we keep buying them. I think the better question is will we get the next expansion or Destiny 3 first. It does kind of feel like the new seasonal model is a way to stretch out the content to buy themselves some time in between TFS and whatever the next big release is.
Obviously act 1 wouldn't land with alot of players considering the plethora of content we received with it, act 1 was IMO an opener in an attempt to hook us onto the echoes and what have you but yeah I think things will begin to shake up in act 2 and 3
I would only really be worried if I thought none of the other devs had no passion for Destiny, but we've seen that, that's not the case. So I am not too concerned.
I think these episodes are a set up for future expansions. I don’t for see any future expansion being larger than something like SK or BL though. I do think “frontiers” will be that first expansion, potentially exploring more of the maya and vex storyline.. just my thoughts.

I think frontiers will be something different than an annual expansion or seasons or episodes. I think it will be something with procedurally generated worlds or maybe some sort of arena creator tool. They are clearly working on the next Destiny but also need something that takes less work hours. If the final episode comes out in February, the Marathon comes out in June 2025, then I would guess Frontiers would be September-December 2025. Maybe we get more reprised raids or unvaulting the DCV on 2026 or some new episodes. Then I would guess they would want a decent gap and 2027 is when we get D3
i feel like the downfall of a lot of games and ips have been bc the ppl who made the games great had to leave or chose to leave i mean beloved games like cod, gears of war, halo (insert beloved franchise here) even naughty dog (that one is a little personal) it sucks to see these devs leave and I'm hopeful for the future of d2 i hope it stays as good as it's always been (for the most part damn error codes) the sad thing is is that at some point everything dies out i'm just thinking one day my grandkids r gonna ask my "grandpa wuts d2?" and ima relapse on all the memories i just really hope frontiers is a new destiny game something new to explore and experience i just hope it's not bad
From a business perspective it makes sense for people to move on and get higher paying jobs or new projects they are passionate about.
In terms of fronties. I think from what it sounds like, is they want to expand on the worlds that already exist in destiny. Like they are doing with nessus now, changing them and expanding. Most likely frontiers will be episodic updates to the current destinations in d2 with some story.
Losing the expansion lead seems very telling.

They don't give codenames to a small releases. Plus according to previous insider info, Destiny 3 has been in some sort of development since Witch Queen, so it's very possible it could come out in 2026 though i doubt it.
Also how do we know they're talking about frontiers in August?
At the end of the day it's up to Sony if the saga continues . Hopefully Final Shape does well enough for them. All about that💰

I honestly want D3. With major graphical overhauls and mechanics but at same time stay true to its core. And “hopefully” allow us to transfer our progression in some way
I imagine they are developing a 3rd game, so it really depends on how far along it is in development. If it's like within a year or two of being completed, then we may not see any more expansions for Destiny 2.
Key/executive level employees come and go all the time in business. Especially after they were the reason for success. I think people are looking to far into things like this and the layoffs. These are not big deals. Sad but not an issue.
Exactly. Bungie had one of the smallest round of layoffs in the industry and people call it "mass layoffs". 100 out of 1300 isn't mass layoffs.

I initially read the title as "Wii Destiny 2 expansion!" To say I was confused would be an understatement.
Come August, they’re gonna announce Destiny frontiers, which is a new game. And in the same breath, they’re gonna announce a pause in content for Destiny 2 for the entire year of 2025. They’ll give us like an age of triumph as they did for Destiny one, and that will have to hold all of us over until 2026, when the next destiny game launches with the next consoles
I just want a prequel
I feel like destiny is holding it close we are just use to expansion announcements years in advance since shadow keep but before that we only heard about them 6 months or so to launch
I think the August announcement will be a pivotal moment for Destiny fans. The fate of the franchise is still up in the air. It’s hard to know what to feel. The way the TFS story went, it’s almost like bungie was ready to say goodbye. I am not sure whether or not I should be excited for the future or if I should prepare to say goodbye.
Ima laugh when Frontiers is just a rougelike for different solar systems/galaxys that we can run through or maybe even they pull an AC Valhalla Vinland type thing where in this new solar system you have to start from scratch to get the gear or abilities only available there.

Clearly I don't work for Destiny, but I think Echoes should've been the 2nd Episode. The first episode should've been rediscovering the planets taken by The Witness. OR, at the very least, the full return of Mars. We have parts of it, but why not all of it? Have the episode be about reconnecting with the taken planets and seeing if everything is ok. Each act could've been its own location. Say Act I: Titan. See what the arcologies have become. Give us a direct route to the Deep dungeon just to see where it is on the map. Find out if Sloane is ok. Act II: Io. Even though we lost Asher into reintegration to the Vex network, what about the area recreated in the Traveler? Maybe there are more free thinking Lucent Hive attracted to the original spot of the Silver Wings? Act III: Mercury. Let us find out why the races the Witness had inside the Traveler are flocking to Mercury. Are they trying to get a foothold in our solar system? These are locations that are probably not going to be used in the future episodes. So then Episode 2 is what we're having now, Echoes and Nessus. Now we'e had an entire episode to let this cook, so now we come across a completely reteraformed Nessus. Episode 3: Revenant. Bring back the combined Tangled Shore and The Reef. Let Mara and even Mithrax regain all that ground. Then Episode 4: Heresay is us returning to The Dreadnaught and whatever that comes with. You're telling the same story but allowing the forces of the Guardians and Cabal and Eliksni start to reclaim the newly untamed and returned planets. Hell, let Caital use Mars as a colony for her Cabal. Let her work on whatever forces returned there.
Crow told us about the item that flew off from The Traveler and landed on Nessus, should've let that one slow burn until the following season.
Piloting the Dreadnaught away from Sol to find new adventures would be incredible!

I don’t think they are going to quit on new expansion because they make so much money/revenue from it to just stop. I do think it will be postponed like it was with final shape.
i dont want a d3, i want everything we earn in these upcoming episodes and everything we have earned playing this game period to be usable in any future content
I think the thing with Cat is her job was to make a 3 year expansion plan to end the light vs darkness saga. That’s why it feels like there was a plan for the 3 expansions (excluding lightfall). And once her job was complete she decided to leave.
My theory is they are taking time to make hire/promote another person like cat and have another multi year plan and are most likely using episodes as a “buffer year” until they have something concrete
I wish bungie would just tell us these things so we can give them the benefit of doubt instead of keeping us in the dark
Just because you lose "key" ppl doesn't mean you won't have "key" ppl take there place. Artistic folks really need to spread there wings and try new things, doing the same stuff day in day out really stifles creativity.
Even if they have to delay for a month or more, bungie can absolutely do that to get a new expansion out. Every time they’ve delayed they’ve put out a banger.
Where did the idea that we're gonna be learning more about Frontiers in August come from? I haven't seen any information on that.
August showcases since witch queen reveal. Episode doesnt end until october so if they keep in cadance with their showcases it shpuld be in october, but i doubt it
@@Ethanshmeethan00 That's just an assumption though. Typically the August showcases happened after the last expansion launched in February. But because Final Shape was delayed to June, I doubt they'll do a big showcase just 2 months after that.

I think frontiers is the expansion. Frontiers is the expansion that opens up leaving the solar system. Current episodes lead up to that, and following frontiers it’s all episodes until D3 or death.
2025 will probably not have an expansion unless they pump it out near the end. However i think that it'll get a new expansion 2026 definitely

I think one more darkness subclass down the road would be all they’d need to bring more life back to the game
Destiny as flagship game with a new console release would be massive. I don’t know what game would be more profitable than that
For sure, and a new console generation would mean they can finally drop support for ps4 n xb1. Destiny 3 has apparently been in development since witch queen - but only at a small scale. So I’m guessing in the next 3/4 years we might have the next title 🤞

I am greatful and proud of the talented people at Bungie and what they managed to accomplish.
The last thing I want to see is a 343 style take over of the destiny franchise.
Whether we knew it or not, 'The final shape' is Destiny's Halo 3 moment. Im sure we will have some great content ahead, but destiny being around in 10 more years is unlikely.
I want to see a new Bungie golden age with Marathon and if possible a Destiny TV show.
And its time to let the new talent have their moments 😊
I don’t think so, maybe next year there won’t be as a break and then for 2026 there will be an expansion

If we go off of how many echoes came out of the traveler there was nine of them and if we get four episodes for a year. I feel like we're going to have this year and one more before we get anything big.
Or the remaining 5 echoes are the narrative tie-in that tides over into exploring outside our solar system and into "Frontiers", leading into major plot points.
TFS to me is the ending of "Destiny 2". If they want to add in more content before the release of Destiny 3, I'm guessing it will be like all the post Star Wars trilogy moves/series. Star wars episode 1-6 (and god forbid 7-9) would be what this 10 year light and dark saga was, while the other shows like Solo, The Mandalorian, Ahsoka, Andor etc would probs be the post TFS content we might be getting
So are these departures confirmed to be a result of the Sony deal? So many people have left in such a small amount of time. I can only guess Sony is replacing them with their own people or something.
I think people just needed to stay a certain amount of time to get a big payout and that time is now arriving

Does that mean we are getting new full planets OR are we getting teleported to a big area via the H.E.L.M's various season rooms??? Season of the deep.......... I’m not really shocked these people are leaving, it makes sense since they finished the original “10 year plan” so they probably want some change. I’m sure the people they have lined up are gonna be great.
As much as I’d love to see D2 come out with another major storyline expansion(s), I really just don’t feel it; all the writing on the wall with devs leaving and the ambiguity of what’s supposed to be next conveys the sentiment that those times are over. They wanted a 10 year project, they fulfilled it. Just my opinion but I think Bungie’s ready to move onto their new IP and other projects and will be content to drop an episode here and there to say the game is still live but pretty much treat it like D1. And if that does happen…it’s OK guys. It’s been a fun ride :)
They need to make sure their game runs correctly before they decide making any future yearly expansions, pretty sure they’ll” fix”the guns ,and characters loading just for it not to be any better.
As long as we continue to get Destiny content, whether thats in for form of a Destiny 3 or destiny 2 expansions, ill be a happy little bunny :)
I think we are in a good point in destiny for a true sequel. Maybe 3 more episodes until 2026 and then Destiny 3 with fress locations, weapons, a new subclass and other innovations. But let us keep our cosmetics. (also they should dropping PS4 an Xbox One as playablesystem)
I think they shouod delay all expansions to be 1.25-1.5 years.

As far as I know, no. On a larger note, they should really not allow themselves to be slaves to a timeline. They should show us stuff when they have stuff to show and when they are sure they can get the thing out within a year later
Sometimes there are simply better opportunities elsewhere and its not that deep. We just dont know
