We are relative newbies also, having tented and caravaned previously. We noticed slight differences. 1. Deisel heater is so easy and stops work before the fuel tank empties. 2. Pop top with the rear scissor action lifts the rear sufficiently. 3. True clothes storage is limited but recognising the unused clothes during the stay can direct the amount of clothes required. The under bed storage draws can be huge . 3. Replacing the passenger chair with a swivelling captains chair allows both chairs to be rotated without leaving the comfort of the vehicle. Be mindful of placing chocks under the front wheel if the handbreak is released. 4. An awning attached to the vehicle, especially a driveway air tube type improves longer stays. 5. A portaloo is essential for the freedom the camper gives you, especially when caught short when away from facilities. A toilet tent is a good addition when sited. 6. Camper is ideal for the days. out with easy parking in multi storey carparks with the standard height vw.
Thank you for watching and for adding your insight as a new campervanner. The consensus seems to be that diesel is a better heating system to gas. I think a portaloo would be something I would prefer and I know you can get models that have these, and even a fixed loo. The camper has many postive points too, parking is certainly one of them. You make a good point about height barriers. Enjoy your camper and safe travels 😊😊
Lots of what you’ve said is so true. It’s a great vid. Things like storage *really* depend on the individual configuration; some have sprung mattresses etc and really good sleeping bags are a must. I think the main thing to realise is it’s not a Motorhome it’s a CAMPervan, it really is a half way house between tent and Motorhome. For me/ us the pros far outweigh the cons - the cons can all be dealt with, we can’t fill ours there’s so much space (LWB admittedly) and the diesel heater, or little electric one on hook up is a marvel; the joy of driving and ease of parking makes holidaying as stress free an adventure as possible, especially compared to towing and set up we’ve got down to 7mins from handbrake on to kettle on and feet up 😂 However, as you say it’s a learning curve and different things appeal to different folks - what a good thing that is 😊
Thank you for watching and absolutely..there is always something for everyone and as I always say, there is always a compromise. I think a diesel heater would be better for me in a camper as I like to be out all year round and I do feel the cold. We really enjoyed the camper experience..happy travels to you and have a fantastic weekend 😊😊
@@HereWeTow I know what you mean about the cold 🥶 and you’re so right; with a bit of compromise there really is something for everyone. We’re so lucky that we can have just the most enjoyment and follow our dream holidays aren’t we 😃 You have a great weekend too 😊
One of the best things about being a TH-camr is we can try out things we'd never have tried before and share it with others. Not convinced about campervans, thanks for sharing. 😊
I travel solo so plenty room. Also I have a high top so much warmer and loads of storage and room for a loo. I have much more room on in the back area so carry a duvalay topper which is a game changer. Petrol heater too so never cold.
We bought a camper van first and still have a 70 reg lwb model. It is good for getting to places a motor home and caravan struggle with whilst continuously touring in one direction. Added to this we have just bought a caravan and we have found that it best for a base site holiday for comfort and ease after being pitched. They both have their merits and problems. I wouldn't buy a motorhome though, they seem to be a jack of all trades but master of nothing, particularly not being able to park at attractions and shops etc. We always carry a portable toilet in ours, inside a cover with a foam pad under the lid. When not in use it makes a perfect footstool or extra seat. It conveniently bungees to the passenger seat frame whilt the van is in motion. As far as the amount of storage and access to storage goes in a camper van, the type of bed you have can make a big difference. A rib bed, instead of a rock n roll bed, allows you to store outside gear inside the back door on the floor and the rear bed leaf horizontal, allows you to store bedding, coats and clean stuff there. Access beneath a rib bed is also much easier with just the lift of the seat leaf only in day mode or opening the front access doors. As well as this, you sleep on the flat reverse sides of each leaf, instead of a more sculptured sitting seat face, as is the case with a rock n roll bed. I personally would always go for a lwb van but if you use it as a daily driver, perhaps more convenient parking would be more important to you, with a short van but I haven't really found a lwb van bad for parking anyway but I have a reversing camera, which helps a lot. A lwb van has greater storage as well, mine has high level cupboards from the back, all the way to the drivers seat and there is high level storage all the width of the back as well and access to the roller shutter doors is immediately accessible as well with a lwb van. On a night, all the bedding goes on the bed and other clean stuff stored during the day on the rear bed leaf, then goes in the driver's seat, overnight and returns back again, when you make the bed in the morning. A good diesel heater is a must, we have a Webasto and we have never had problems with it feeling cold and we campervan in the winter as well, if left on all night. When left on all night, you can't detect any change on the van diesel fuel gauge because the diesel heater is efficient and hardly uses much diesel. I am 6 foot tall but thin and atheletic. Perhaps camper vans are for younger people. After all i am only 64 lol. When the wife and I are on our own, we always shut the pop top and sleep downstairs on the rib bed on top of a memory foam topper, partucularly in winter. I am an old man and need a no1 about 3 times every night and with the portable toilet, it is no problem.
Thank you for leaving such an informative comment Steve, it is helpful to us and also others who are considering a camper. It sounds like a little bit more length in the LWB gives you the added space and storage. Interesting about the diesel heater too. Thank you very much 😊
Tow it....I think that answers the question. But you can't compare caravans (of any size), campervans or motorhomes. They all have differences, advantages and disadvantages. For us, a camper is my daily driver (not that I drive daily thanks to homeworking) but is also convenient to easily manoeuvre on trips, no issues with towing but you do have to factor in setting up and later needing to possibly go out. We have a drive away awning, our total set up time is now under 15 minutes when arriving, so it feels as flexible as other options. Motorhome will be my next move, for the space, but driving and parking will have to be a big consideration if it's over 5.5m
Great video Karina & Jule's. We have a campervan & i'm writing a feature at the moment on packing tips for having a campervan on my website. Pack light. We have those packing cube's & they are great. Don't take too much stuff, only take what you need. Only take food for the first few nights, plan your meals & there is always a supermarket or farm shop near by. And a takeaway place not far away who may deliver. We don't sleep in the poptop the rock & roll bed is so much more comfy. We have an onboard toilet because I couldn't be getting out the van during the night to use the campsite toilet. We have the heating on all night if we need it & bringing the poptop down during the winter nights does make the inside a lot warmer. An awning is a must to give more living space for eating in or seating in during the day or evening & we do have heating for our awning too. Hope that helps anyone thinking of buying a VW campervan. Phil & Lisa - VW Adventures
Thank you Phil and Lisa, we thought about you both during our trip as we know how enthusiastic you are about your camper. We got a real insight in to it and learnt so much. We would certainly do it again, and yes, pack light.. I hope you have had a great weekend 😊
Thanks both for your hard work and review etc . We had a high top T5 and loved it . We did have a Porta Potti though and a small portable electric radiator is very handy . Storage was ok but the rock and roll bed was a bit cosy . A wind out awning is extremely useful and a small tent / lockable box is great for putting extras in . 😊
Thanks Bob, yes we saw a couple with an electric delonghi oil filled heater in theirs. Im glad you enjoyed your VW, we learnt a lot and would try one for longer now we know a bit more. Have a great week 😊
We are looking at buying one, we tour on our motorbikes and camp , so to buy one of those would be luxury to us, it is just glorified camping , when you are used to not having much space to pack or sleep or eat then it should be perfect for us , but each to their own 😁👍🏼
This was a good review. Reviewers normally gloss over the more practical aspects of a van, so e.g. they never tell you the downstairs bed is only 112cms wide, what it's like sleeping on the thin mattresses upstairs, and tricks about using the limited storage in a pop-top. And they always assume owners are fit, svelte and tiny. Glad to see an honest appraisal by a bigger bloke, as so many of us are these days. Never stand on the front seat armrest to get into the upstairs bed btw. They tend to break easily, and you could have a nasty fall.
Thanks for this, seeing both of your reaction, it has helped me. I love my Adria and the storage. Maybe I adjust my dream. For every action, there is a reaction. Thanks again
We enjoyed this, we used to have a VW ocean which had better storage than the one you tested. However you highlighted the issues with space & comfort upstairs that not even Duvalay could fix with our bad backs. We now have a 6m van, no more Tetris & having a fixed bed & on board facilities feels like we’ve won the lottery 😂
Thank you for watching and it is interesting to hear your experience with a smaller camper too. We tried a 6 metre motorhome in 2020 and found that a good size for parking and having everything on board we needed. Have a lovely week 😊
One big advantage over a motorhome is it can be used as an everyday use vehicle. Drive to work etc. We have sold our motorhome and gone for a Mazda Bongo. Still learning. Cheers from old George and Jane Motorhome Adventures
Really good vlog. Thanks for your review, good observations as we don’t have one & now know what to look for. We all have ideas in our head of what we would like. Mine was hard hi top vs pop top & of course a loo. So you have addressed those beautifully for me. 😊
Thank you very much for watching.. happy campervan hunting..I am glad the vlog gave you some ideas and what to look for. It was a learning curve for us too 😊
We have a california. It has comfort springs upstairs, we have a thermal wrap and the diesel heater makes it lovely and cozy even in the depths of winter. Our porta potty fits perfectly at the end of the bed downstairs. Plus plenty of clever storage throughout. We sacrifice internal space for incredible flexibility, but we haven't compromised on comfort. I usually sleep better in the van than at home. Duvalay all the way.
Thank you for watching, we learnt a lot from our camper experience. One thing was that a diesel heater would be a must for us, interestingly many new motorhomes are starting to more to a diesel heating option too. We have had several different Duvalay products, they are great. Enjoy your camper and happy travels 👍😊
You guys did really well. We have had our camper just over a year, each trip gets better. You could have done with a wee bottle with his and hers attachments. Most campers will have heating that uses the fuel tank as the energy source, much better and less worrying.
Thank you for watching and I appreciate your comment. The one thing we took from the camper was we would want a diesel heater, not gas. You are very much right on that one. Enjoy your travels 😊😊
Hi, as you noticed, a lot of cleverness has gone into this compact camper, with >60yrs of design experience. All this in just shy of 5m, if, like yours, it is the SWB. Practically turns on the spot. Many 3 point turns are often 2 pointers or occasionally simply in one go. It is the go anywhere, park anywhere camper. Yes, the toilet takes getting used to, but is only really a bother in the rain. For anyone reading this, please do not use the armrest to stand on, when climbing up - can have horrific consequences, injury, or costly to repair. Either make it in one go or invest in a foldable ladder. Californiabits do one, that goes nicely in between the two front seats (we have two single seats, which not only has space for the ladder, but for many other things, including a convenient way to go from front to back, without going outside. We have plenty of storage for 2wk holidays for 3 people (son is 6' 2" and sleeps up top). I am 6' 1" and happily sleep below. You just need to be smart in what you take, although any winter holidays may involve the odd trip to the laundrette. As for general space, at minimum any one with these should get a 'awning room', which simply are 3 tent type walls, that zip to the awning arms and front rail and then velcro to each other to create a weather proof enclosure, the size of the full awning, with windows and a door. If away for longer or 3 / 4 people, then drive away Awning tents are fab...unzip and nip into the village or town for some sighseeing...and keep relative inexpensive things in there, table, chairs etc.. As for your cold night, we have a wrap-around thermal that covers the entire canvas of the pop top and includes openers for the front window. Great vlog and you never know, you might just be persuaded.🤔
Thank you for watching and for leaving such a helpful and detailed comment that may help others. We really appreciate that as you obviously have lots of owner experience. Have a good weekend 😊👍
Good on you both for trying it, had a similar van for just over 12 months and been away 34 nights. Always sleep down stairs, teddy bedding to keep warm, plenty of storage under double front seat, there is plenty of insulation if you get a proper build even tested in -3, 5 inch of snow, it's a learning curve
Thank you for watching, we really enjoyed the experience and learnt so much in just a few days. We would go away again and at least we would be a step ahead next time. Great to learn new things..have a great time in your camper 😊👍
Good review. I’m at Sainsbury’s. Obviously you can go to any supermarket. Priceless. You’re so funny. You’re also a very good driver. Reverse parking. Well done you. 👏
Thank you Tony, it is great to be back and we have loads planned..cannot wait to meet lots of people on site again and eat loads of food! Have a great week 😊👍
I love broad lane leisure. I used to live around the corner from them when they were a small facility on Broad Lane in Coventry (now an Enterprise car hire). Love Somers Wood as well. Great vLog as always!
Thank you, the Broadlane team are great, Adrian is always really helpful and Steve and Darren always take time to speak to you too. They are a great dealership. Somers Wood is one of my favourites..😊 Have a great week
Fantastic review. And the things you say sre spot on. Weve had our vw t4 for 12 years. You do learn.😂. A spinning single front seat so you can enter the rear without getting out if the van. A diesel heater for chilli eves and morns. (Remote fob if in poptop bed. Defo a porta potti. A storage bag on the bike rack. And the biggy. A rib bed. It's further forwards in the van but loads more storage and the rear cupboard is accessible. Also a fiamma safari room is a massive must. Up in minutes and makes all the difference with space and with the diesel heater on its toasty in the tent small table and chairs. Perfect... Ive rambled on enough I think😂. 👍🏼
Thank you for watching and for leaving some great information as an owner..we had a great time and we know what we would want in a camper now. Have a fantastic weekend 😊
Great video guys. Having been campervaning in the UK and all over Europe in our T5 for 12 years we love it, though hope to move to a slightly larger VW Crafter next year. Good to see your review and how you completely threw yourself into the experience.
Thanks an interesting vlog. We have had caravans, a 7.5m motorhome and now have settled on the best combination for us at the moment. That is a vw campervan and a caravan 😂😂 we use them both equally in different circumstances and for different purposes. I surprised myself with the vw to be honest. I love it! We do 2 to 3 nights in it but if we fancy more room or luxury then we tow the caravan. However I would'nt like it without my portapotty 😮 or an electric heater/diesel heater.
Interesting video, thanks. Slept up top in our California Ocean recently. Toasty with diesel heater at lowest setting overnight. For us a porta potti is an essential piece of kit. It stays in the boot until bedtime and fits in even with the downstairs bed out.
Thanks very much that was an excellent video very well presented... I have used for many years a Thetford Portaloo, keep it covered with a black cover, in one of the corners, that way it's kept discreet.. and you still have enough floor space with this VERY important item,.lol. also the chemicals used in the Thetford are fantastic it breaks down everything and you just empty in the morning if required, there are absolutely no foul smells, during the night, and can easily last for three consecutive nights without emptying, and with no smell, as the chemicals break everything down, and basically restore order, It prevents you from going out in the middle of the night, getting wet, and bringing that wetness back into the van, during the night,Also having one, means absolute convenience at any time, draw the curtains, and away you go.. I have one of the larger ones, exactly the same height as a toilet, I found this more comfortable, for sitting on, and getting back up.. as it is a height you are used to..£60-£100 will get you a brilliant quality Thetford Portaloo, you just can't beat them.. let's face it ...if Nature Calls you have to answer!.. but answering in a convenient fashion, makes life so easy. 👍🏽👍🏽😊
Thank you very much for watching Stan and for sharing your experience and advice about the Thetford portaloo..I agree, I would definitely have one onboard, makes life much easier on a night especially. Have a lovely week and enjoy the good weather. 😊
Karina and Jules ..we have enjoyed your review and you did make us chuckle ….I think a campervan on its own is fine for overnight stays but any longer you would need the awning and poss even a trailer …looking forward to further details of your trip …pleased we have the caravan in all Honesty but can see the appeal Of the van also . Hilde x
I’m a strong believer it’s best to convert your own transporter. That way you can build it just how you like it . I’ve crammed some right rammel in mine so it’s basically good to go from the minute I decide to go , show vans look the bomb but you’ve got to feel the scene it’s in your veins.
Thanks for a great video! We hired a Motorhome last year but decided to keep with our caravan. However we now tow it with a Mercedes Marco Polo campervan! Have the best of both. An important thing to check is the overall height of a campervan including its canopy, some vw's are just over 2 metres high. And lots if height barriers are only 2 metres. PS we have room for a Portapotty in ours!
Thanks for watching Peter and leaving an informative comment too. I think many people have considered a camper like this as a tow vehicle. It sounds like it really works for you which is great to hear. Glad you have the toilet situation covered too! Happy towing..😊
Glad you did this reivew - I was considering a VW camper with a view to it being a sole dailly driver, but the beds seem a bit too small/tight. I felt claustrophobic just thinking about two people sleeping on the pop top bed.
Thank you for watching, if you are considering it I would definitely recommend hiring one for a couple of nights. You will soon get the feel for it and know if it would work for you or not. 😊
I’ve just converted a high roof Transit Custom on a real budget for a guy who has been homeless living in a caravan for the past 18 months. Done very much on a budget. It’s just him and his dog. Unfortunately all his worldly possessions have to be carried too. It’s been highly successful BUT a lot depends on how many people are going to be living in it. You have a 4 berth camper van and only two of you in it. Imagine 4 people in that. He is on his own which meant that we could make it with a fixed single bed with caravan style cushions as mattress/seats, a kitchen with a dual burner camping stove, a diesel heater, 12v & 240v electrics but no water supply either fresh or waste fixed into the van. For a single person (and his border collie)it’s ideal with lots of space, lots of power options, good storage under the full length bed/seat and good, relatively inexpensive heat but only for one person. I could have built a rock&roll bed if there were two people but storage would have been reduced and it would have been more cramped were two to be in it. My point is that there is no one size fits all solution especially in a medium sized van such as this. Great video and wonderful to see you back online by the way.
Thank you and it is fantastic to hear about the conversion you have done for this chap and his dog. I hope they have some amazing time with the van and feel happy in their new home. All leisure vehicles have a compromise, you just-have to decide which compromises you can live with over others. The CampAway offers great freedom and was very comfortable on the rock and roll bed. Thank you for watching and have a lovely week 😊
Great video! In re to the storage, the double seats at the front have storage under them-quite a bit as well as all my sleeping bags go in mine! When it comes to the storage, water, electric hook up etc, each camper is slightly different so you’d have a different experience in each one but I’d say not by much! :)
You are right about the porta-potti at night. We are wondering whether to go LWB on our next van, so we can get at the fridge in the mornings and stick a porta-potti in front of it at night. It's a big consideration for a lady. Of course, we wouldn't get into standard length parking bays with a LWB... bit of a dilemma.
Thank you for watching.. there are several good 6 metre conversions with a loo and you can often park these quite easily. We had a 6 metre motorhome for 3 months and were able to park in normal car parking spaces with a bit of an overhang. Yes, once you go over 6 metres parking becomes trickier. Personally I would want a loo on board after my experience. Have a great Christmas 🎄😊
You bring up an important priority about parking , something i wouldnt have thought about , but yes it can be difficult finding a parking space for a campervan of size.
You know , when i listened to you saying about not wanting to have a wee in a tent , it made me think back to the 60s and 70s when my parents and grandparents had a caravan , how on earth did they manage , when most caravans didnt have even a toilet never mind a bathroom that most vans have now . and if there were no facilities ? I do not know what or where they went .lol
You should have asked 👍😂 The same thing happened to me and the Mrs on our first trek in our Campervan. Now we have purchased extra thick mattress toppers, pop up insulator, an Awning with a small electric heater.
Looks like it was an eventful trip. 😂 my back would no good in a camper. Lol😂 we couldn’t believe how much on price comparison on a camper to a motor home and caravan is. But each to there own if you like campers then enjoy every moment. Just wrap up at night time. 🥶 😂. Great vlog thou. See you both soon 😊
@@HereWeTowThanks so much Karina, you too! We have just been away in our camper for a few days and every other camper on site were VWs, 😊, they are lovely!! Two had drive away awnings, which makes a huge difference when you need more space! Xx
Brilliant video Karina, what a lovely van as well. Nice to try something different and very elegant getting into the pop top 🙂 We are selling our Ford Transit custom campervan purely because of lack of space and toilet/shower room, i would keep it but my wife .....................got to keep them happy 🙂 Hope you and Jules are having a brilliant time in the van 🙂 Take care
Happy wife happy life…😂 I must say, no toilet was a bit of a compromise too far, although you can get a layout with a loo. I hope you find a new vehicle that your wife likes and you can have lots more adventures together 😍
@@HereWeTow we have on order a Consort Reef S2, should be here next month 🙂So yeah, she will be a lot happier in that 🙂 Check them out, brilliant vans 🙂
@@HereWeTow you can book a factory tour😀 We cancelled our Swift Carrera 144 to go with Consort, they are brilliant vans and Scot and Jane who own the company are brilliant x
Hi guys, it’s my dream to get a camper van but I’ve gotta save first. I’m watching vlogs all the time because I want one so bad lol. Thanks for sharing I’ve loved it lisa xx❤👍
Had mine for 10 months now. Long wheelbase does make a difference. Just had a week in Scotland and it was great. Diesel heater is a must, no issues with the cold. I have slept up top without issues but I do prefer the rock and roll bed.
Thank you for watching and I will do my best..smaller caravans seem to be in short supply at dealerships but leave that with me..I hope you have had a good weekend 😊
Thank you for watching Simon, we did sleep on the rock and roll bed after finding the pop top was definitely not going to be right for us. 😊 I don’t remember finding the storage under the front seat, it was a little while ago now, that would be good to know for future reference. Thank you ☺️
I can see it working for a single person with 'simple needs and wants' and I suppose they are seen as 'cool' but meanwhile, back in the real world. A two berth caravan or 2 berth motorhome will probably give more comfort for less outlay. I have seen quite a few camper van setups onsite and the most enthusiastic of the couple is always the man. In other news, it's probably good for cutting down on evening drinking due to the amount of faffing involved in simply going to bed. I'll keep our twin axle, fixed bed, I think. I'll get my coat🙂
😂 Thank you for watching Richard..it was great to try and be able to give people watching an insight in to campervanning. For now I will stay with a Motorhome. As a dual tow car and day van I can see this working for some people. Have a fantastic week 😊
Fantastic video! Really enjoy them. Can you tell me how much it costs to hire at this time of year and, more importantly, how much it is per night for a caravan site with electric? Keep them coming.
Great video. I wonder if VW is more popular in Europe than the US? We definitely love VW here, but the camper vans I see here are mostly the Ford and Winnebago type vans. It looks like a completely different experience and for different campers. VW is for the tent living, backpacking type. The Winnebago vans might fit the caravanning types better. Full bathroom, able to stand and cook properly while still fitting in traditional parking spaces.
Thank you for watching..yes the VW has always been the market leader here but Ford have started to come through with their conversions now. There are also some on the Vauxhall van. I would love to try a Winnebago.. have a great week 😊
🇺🇦 Hi Karina and Jules. Thanks for your review. Great to see all the leisure vehicles available. Campers are definitely not our cup of tea, but we all have different tastes. Like our comfort to much. Often wonder what these are like when we see them on site. Your vlogs show us. Think the fish and chips was the luxury part of the camper.😉 Stay safe you two. Pete and Su.
Thank you for watching Pete and Su, now when people ask me about a camper as a tow car and a day van I can talk from experience and not just make it up 🤷🏼♀️😂 It was great to try one, Jules loves the VW campers. I was glad to get back in our Motorhome this weekend though for the space. I hope you are enjoying the bank holiday 😊
@@HereWeTow 🇺🇦 Just chilling out after eye Kettleby. That's one place you have to try. If you like walking massive site with 8 lakes. Neighbour just knocked on the door telling me I left the caravan door open all night, luckily the wind was blowing the other way so just a wet door. Glad you liked the camper. Glad Jules isn't claustrophobic, he is a big fella thought he would want space. Known you for quite a while now Karina, so as a one off ok, but you love your motorhome even a caravan. Thank you for replying and stay safe. Pete and Su.👍
These things are ideal for a couple and 2 kids, and lots of people have a diesel heater. Your right about trying it out, but I think you have to rough it a bit as regards as a toilet. I’m retiring next year and it will be me and the dog most of the time, my other half likes more luxury 😉lol.
isn't it Westfalia that makes these with hardtops and a wc in the rear? I think I'm a bigger fan of those. It's a little taller, but a fixed roof... fixed wc in the rear 🤣 Email them and get one for a test, this vs that.
Great vlog. I enjoy my campervan but I travel solo and it did not cost much so that is a consideration. I use "upstairs" for storage and close the internal roof to keep the heat in. Also, it is easier to warm up on a cold night than it is to cool down in a heatwave. 😊
Being from Yorkshire I know a lot about the cold.. believe me, ice baths are overrated 🤷🏼♀️🤣 Thanks for watching and I think better quality sleeping bags would have been a good idea. I like your idea about zipping them together 😊👍
I have a caravan and campervan. I prefer the lifestyle of a campervan. Our rock and roll bed slides backwards and forwards. We sleep on the rock and roll bed, have a diesel heater and put the porta potti at the bottom of the bed.
Just to point out our friends have a motorhome and don’t tow a vehicle behind and they don’t want to, so have to drive out in the motorhome or not at all.
Children normally sleep up in the roof beds. They would in mine as it’s about 1.5m long. The Propex gas heater you probably have are very safe and fitted in a similar way to the Eberspacher I have. No carbon monoxide can get in.
Thank you for watching and leaving a comment about how you find your camper..I think I would have preferred diesel to gas as it would probably be more efficient, although I could be wrong on that. Enjoy your travels and have a great bank holiday weekend 😊
@@HereWeTow The diesels are much better as it’s fed off the fuel tank and are very safe. The gas one are as safe buy limited by the gas cylinder. Caravans have a gas heater as you probably know and they are very safe. Motorhomes probably have something similar.
OMG Karina this was hilarious it’s been great watching you mention your supplies especially chocolate, nice to see you visiting the local chippy, I thought you would have walked to the golf club for tea. I’m afraid the campervan isn’t for me.
Having had my neither these, please tell me where is all your clothes night gear and everything you would have taken with you. And if you are not alone where there stuff going plus an awning. Normally your back would be chocker and if on a muddy site everything gets covered. Sorry for putting a downer on it.
Thank you for watching Mick, I agree about the storage, that was certainly the compromise with the camper. There was some storage in the cupboard and under the seats. I show more of that in the review vlog. A camper is great for a few days a shorter breaks. I hope you had a good weekend 😊
@@HereWeTow I do love to hear you reviews so please do take my comments wrong. I think it was just we didn’t have a great time when we went the first time as there was two us plus a dog ( and you Know how much room they like to take up ) We had lots to take with us for us and the dog so everything covered the floor so even before we could have a cuppa everything had to come out and the pitches were chalky mud, um nice mud everywhere unless you were a young fit person no way could you get up on the top. Anyways it got sold very quickly, I’m in a coachman lusso II due to you review and loving it. Regards Mick
We both said we could not have managed the space if we still had Fudge our dog with us. Oohh a Lusso, very nice, I am sure you will be enjoying that this year..have a great time 😊
Hi, it is called LEVEL REMOTE.. there are a few others available if you search caravan leveller or even just bubble level.. its really handy to have it on your phone 😊👍
Thank you and I wasn’t overly excited myself 🤣 I would certainly need a portaloo or a model with a toilet, which is available. I hope you have a great week 😊
You need a diesel heater so much better. I don't like these interiors there is no room. We only have a fixed bed at the back and all storage under the bed and no cooker inside because it just smells the van out we cook everything out side.
Hi thanks for a very interesting vlog. One suggestion I have is that you include some B-roll footage to break up the talking. I found 40 mins of commentary off putting. My comment is with the best of intentions.
Love my Transporter but it is my daily driver and a Kombi not a camper. Would not entertain the compromises that come with the Transporter as a campervan - not able to stand up properly even with a pop top, no fixed bed, no fixed toilet and no shower cubicle.
Once you undo the nuts and release the seat you turn it anti clockwise and pull it towards the dash . You then pull it round until it faces the other way. It was a lot more fiddly than a single chair that just rotates. I did do it myself a few times but it wasn’t a quick job.
So you didn't unravel the cable? So it's called a Camp Away, but you have to stay on a site to use much of the equipment? So you have sleeping for 4, eating space for 2 and storage for 1? Where do you put bedding for 4? It's very stylish, lots of headroom and floor space, but otherwise bloody useless. We have had a Vivaro for 8 years and have had 300+ comfortable days and nights with plenty storage. Cost £6k in total. I might call ours Campaway, the one good thing. Don't be so hard on yourself, this is not a great van, its not a 4 berth its a 2+2 kids. They should have told you that, especially with a guy that size. Campers are warmer than motorhomes, less air to heat up and insulation is good. Conclusion if you are going to pay £50-60k for a posh camper get a motorhome and some bikes.
Thank you for watching Bob, it was interesting..Jules had always wanted to try a VW so he was excited. Hope you are both having a great weekend 😊
The older you get, the more difficult camper vans become but are the best of all in camping in more inaccessible remote places like the Highlands.
it's called 'blowing your own trumpet'
As long as you’re in tune… 🤷🏼♀️ Enjoy the sun…😊
I travel solo so plenty room. Also I have a high top so much warmer and loads of storage and room for a loo. I have much more room on in the back area so carry a duvalay topper which is a game changer. Petrol heater too so never cold.
Sounds like you have found a great layout and vehicle for you and the high roof sounds a good alternative. Thank you for watching 😊
9:15 …. fantastic advice. Well done and thank you for your videos. They’re fantastic. Your presentation is just superb. You should be on telly!!
Thank you for watching and glad you enjoy the vlogs 😊
Excellent, answered a lot of my questions thank you
Thank you for watching 😊
Thank you very much 😊
@@HereWeTow😊😊
I cannot comprehend why anyone would have a small camper over a swift base camp. Tow it, leave it set up! Each to their own, great video as always.
Thanks for watching 👍
Love this video, we are newbies to campervanning. Lots of easy tips, thank you for doing it so clearly
Thank you for watching and glad it was helpful 😊
We are looking at buying one, we tour on our motorbikes and camp , so to buy one of those would be luxury to us, it is just glorified camping , when you are used to not having much space to pack or sleep or eat then it should be perfect for us , but each to their own 😁👍🏼
All the best in your search for a campervan.. absolutely, there is something for everyone 😊👍
Thank you for watching and glad you found it honest and helpful. We really enjoyed the experience and there were certainly several compromises. 😊👍
Thanks for this, seeing both of your reaction, it has helped me. I love my Adria and the storage. Maybe I adjust my dream. For every action, there is a reaction. Thanks again
Thank you for watching Stuart.. have a great weekend 😊
Yes, it is something you can use everyday and you dont need to plan your parking. Enjoy your travels and thanks for watching 😊
Glad to see you guys back on TH-cam, doing what you do well - Campervan & Motorhome reviews 🙏🏽
Thank you and have a fantastic weekend 😊
Love your video Katrina and Juels, always so authentic and fun to watch x
Thank you and have a lovely week 😊
😂🤷🏼♀️👍 Thank you for watching…have a good week
Nice campervan, that's where it ends, omg your back, TH-cam has been empty without you both, can't wait to see more here we tow content #happydays xx
Thank you Tony, it is great to be back and we have loads planned..cannot wait to meet lots of people on site again and eat loads of food! Have a great week 😊👍
What a FANTASTIC and much needed video!!! Thank you! 🙂🙂🙂
Thank you for watching 😊🤩
Hi! Great video ! ❤
Was wondering what the leveling app is called that you used
Its called Level Remote thank you for watching 😊
I love broad lane leisure. I used to live around the corner from them when they were a small facility on Broad Lane in Coventry (now an Enterprise car hire). Love Somers Wood as well.
Great vLog as always!
Thank you, the Broadlane team are great, Adrian is always really helpful and Steve and Darren always take time to speak to you too. They are a great dealership. Somers Wood is one of my favourites..😊 Have a great week
Great video, very informative and useful, thank you
Thank you for watching 😊
Welcome back. Great vlog as usual.
Thanks for watching and I hope your weekend is going well 😊
Fantastic review.
Thank you and I am enjoying your Instagram 😍
Really enjoyed your video! We are tempted to buy a camper but this looks a great way to try. Thanks guys!
Thank you for watching.. yes, I am glad we got the opportunity to try one as we found we prefer a motorhome right now. Have a great week 😊
Thank you for watching and it seems a camper as a tow vehicle is very popular. Like you say, best of both worlds there.. happy travels 👍😊
Interesting video, thanks. Slept up top in our California Ocean recently. Toasty with diesel heater at lowest setting overnight. For us a porta potti is an essential piece of kit. It stays in the boot until bedtime and fits in even with the downstairs bed out.
Thank you for watching, I think I would prefer the diesel heater. Have a fantastic weekend and enjoy your camper 😊
Thanks very much that was an excellent video very well presented...
I have used for many years a Thetford Portaloo, keep it covered with a black cover, in one of the corners, that way it's kept discreet.. and you still have enough floor space with this VERY important item,.lol. also the chemicals used in the Thetford are fantastic it breaks down everything and you just empty in the morning if required, there are absolutely no foul smells, during the night, and can easily last for three consecutive nights without emptying, and with no smell, as the chemicals break everything down, and basically restore order,
It prevents you from going out in the middle of the night, getting wet, and bringing that wetness back into the van, during the night,Also
having one, means absolute convenience at any time, draw the curtains, and away you go..
Karina and Jules ..we have enjoyed your review and you did make us chuckle ….I think a campervan on its own is fine for overnight stays but any longer you would need the awning and poss even a trailer …looking forward to further details of your trip …pleased we have the caravan in all
Honesty but can see the appeal
Of the van also . Hilde x
Thank you for watching Hilde… it was an interesting trip and great to try the CampAway. Have a fantastic week 😊
Great video, been campervanning for 2 years and still learning
Thank you for watching and yes, there is always something to learn. Enjoy your camper 😊
This is very brave! Such a tiny space for a couple used to more elbow room. Congrats.
🤷🏼♀️😂 Thank you for watching 😊
I’m a strong believer it’s best to convert your own transporter. That way you can build it just how you like it . I’ve crammed some right rammel in mine so it’s basically good to go from the minute I decide to go , show vans look the bomb but you’ve got to feel the scene it’s in your veins.
Absolutely.. gives you chance to customise and personalise you van. Happy travels 😊
I enjoyed watching the Video. Different to what do normally and the Van looks great 😊
Thank you for watching Jamie 😊
Beautiful campervan and great review
Thank you for watching 😊
Great vlog camper van not for us but great to see how it works. Could see my daughter and friend loving it. X
Thank you for watching and it was great to be able to try a camper. Have a great week 😊
We've done 2x 3 month long tours of Europe in ours. 2 adults and a terrier! With 2 backpacks of photography gear too. You just get inventive!
Thank you for watching.. your trips sound great, you can’t beat heading off for a good long trip. Thanks for adding you own experience 😊
Great video! In re to the storage, the double seats at the front have storage under them-quite a bit as well as all my sleeping bags go in mine! When it comes to the storage, water, electric hook up etc, each camper is slightly different so you’d have a different experience in each one but I’d say not by much! :)
Thank you for watching and thank you for the information about storage under the seat..I didnt find that.. enjoy your camper and happy travels 😊
A wide neck bottle from go outdoors is your friend 😂
@alisonbailey8614 🤣🤣
You bring up an important priority about parking , something i wouldnt have thought about , but yes it can be difficult finding a parking space for a campervan of size.
Had a chuckle. Quick supermarket shop ! Doughnuts 🍩 lol.
Usual sensible choices 🤷🏼♀️😬😂
Stick an awning up for storage? We hired an old type 2 VW camper and it came with a blow up one which was ideal
Thank you for watching , yes, some owners do choose to use a drive-away awning, personal choice as always. A good suggestion… have a great weekend 😊
When on electric hook up an electric blanket works well. The gas heaters are nice i think better than diesel, a bit quieter.
Thank you for watching James, an electric blanket would be a great idea in the colder weather 😊
The good old days…😂
Spirit level function is built into the measure app on iOS. 7:55
Oh fantastic thank you for that information, I didn’t know that, does it do fourways, if so thats great.. thank you for watching
Great to see you out trying something new. Very interesting and looking forward to a comparison with a Motorhome.
Thank you for watching and we are planning a comparison vlog in June..
You should have asked 👍😂 The same thing happened to me and the Mrs on our first trek in our Campervan.
Now we have purchased extra thick mattress toppers, pop up insulator, an Awning with a small electric heater.
Sounds like you guys have nailed it..that’s exactly what we said we needed…😂 Enjoy your camper and happy travels 😊
Thank you Mark, yes, camper prices have certainly gone up and as you say, something for everyone..have a fantastic weekend..😊
Great video, but check out the Ford Nugget Plus with the end kitchen, hot and cold water, shower connection, cassette toilet! They are brill! X
Thank you for watching..I like the Nugget.. Have a great weekend 😊
@@HereWeTowThanks so much Karina, you too! We have just been away in our camper for a few days and every other camper on site were VWs, 😊, they are lovely!! Two had drive away awnings, which makes a huge difference when you need more space! Xx
I like the driveaway awnings..great if you are using a site as a base for a few days. 😊
Ive just had a look..are they based in Leeds..if so maybe they would let me film a review 🤷🏼♀️
Thank you for watching and I hope you make your dream a reality very soon 😍
Had mine for 10 months now. Long wheelbase does make a difference.
Just had a week in Scotland and it was great.
Diesel heater is a must, no issues with the cold. I have slept up top without issues but I do prefer the rock and roll bed.
Thanks for that Neil.. a few people have said diesel heater is the better option. I am glad you have had a great trip 😊
Really enjoyed that :-)
Thank you for watching 😊
Great video, very informative, please can you think about reviewing some new 2 berth caravans in the future 😊
Thank you for watching and I will do my best..smaller caravans seem to be in short supply at dealerships but leave that with me..I hope you have had a good weekend 😊
Im thinking of getting a camper, I've never been a fan of the rock & roll bed I think I'd get the one with the seats either side.
It certainly helps to hire one to try the layouts and options. Have a great weekend 😊
@@HereWeTow Thanks 👍 enjoy your weekend too (with the extra bank holiday)
I may have missed it, but did you consider the rock and roll bed and did you find storage under the front seats?
Good evening Karina , hope you and Jules are having a great bank holiday weekend !
Yes fantastic thank you, I hope you are having a nice one too..
Fantastic video! Really enjoy them. Can you tell me how much it costs to hire at this time of year and, more importantly, how much it is per night for a caravan site with electric? Keep them coming.
Thank you for watching.. campervan hire starts at about £100 a night this time of year. A campsite with ehu is around £25-45 per night 😊
Great video, caravan all day long for me, 8 ft wide luxury on wheels
Can’t beat 8ft 😊 Thanks for watching and have a great week 😊
@@HereWeTow I would love to see you get a van like the Ford, Mercedes or Vaudhall that is meant to be a “standalone” camper. Have a great week too!
🇺🇦
Hi Karina and Jules.
Thanks for your review.
Great to see all the leisure vehicles available.
Campers are definitely not our cup of tea, but we all have different tastes. Like our comfort to much.
Often wonder what these are like when we see them on site. Your vlogs show us.
Think the fish and chips was the luxury part of the camper.😉
Stay safe you two.

Just chilling out after eye Kettleby.
Oh fantastic news about retirement..enjoy that.. 😊 Yes, diesel seems popular.. 👍
isn't it Westfalia that makes these with hardtops and a wc in the rear? I think I'm a bigger fan of those. It's a little taller, but a fixed roof... fixed wc in the rear 🤣
Email them and get one for a test, this vs that.
Thank you for watching and it is always good to make a comparison with other types of leisure vehicle. One size certainly doesn’t fit all. 😊
I’ve never heard someone talk about their bits as much as this lady 🤣🤣
🤷🏼♀️😂
You need two captin seats you can swivel both in side
Great video, a lwb u shaped lounge would be better for you both. See if you can hire one to do a comparison 😊
Thank you for watching and I agree a different layout would be something we would look at as we loved the CampAway experience 😊👍
Great vlog. I enjoy my campervan but I travel solo and it did not cost much so that is a consideration. I use "upstairs" for storage and close the internal roof to keep the heat in. Also, it is easier to warm up on a cold night than it is to cool down in a heatwave. 😊
Thank you for watching and we quickly learnt about losing heat 😂 Happy travels in your camper 😊
Make the sleeping bags into a double and body heat keeps you warm naturally
Cold is good that's why people have ice baths
Being from Yorkshire I know a lot about the cold.. believe me, ice baths are overrated 🤷🏼♀️🤣 Thanks for watching and I think better quality sleeping bags would have been a good idea. I like your idea about zipping them together 😊👍
I love you two!
Thank you 😂 I hope you have a great week.. 😊
Thank you for watching Roy.. glad I kept you entertained 😊 Have a lovely bank holiday
I think it was just we didn’t have a great time when we went the first time as there was two us plus a dog ( and you Know how much room they like to take up )
We had lots to take with us for us and the dog so everything covered the floor so even before we could have a cuppa everything had to come out and the pitches were chalky mud, um nice mud everywhere unless you were a young fit person no way could you get up on the top. Anyways it got sold very quickly, I’m in a coachman lusso II due to you review and loving it.
Regards
Mick
We both said we could not have managed the space if we still had Fudge our dog with us.
Oohh a Lusso, very nice, I am sure you will be enjoying that this year..have a great time 😊
is this one a vw t6/vw t5 camper van
It is a T6.1..I think the T5 was replaced by the T6 in 2015 and the T6.1 was released in 2019 for 2020..thank you for watching 😊
@@HereWeTow it was late 2015 the vw t6 came out
Fantastic I was right with 2015 then.. 😊
Hi Karina, Could I ask please, what is the levelling app you use on your phone? Rgds Gary
Hi, it is called LEVEL REMOTE.. there are a few others available if you search caravan leveller or even just bubble level.. its really handy to have it on your phone 😊👍
@@HereWeTow Thanks for that. I do have the cheap plastic one but it needs a bit of weight incase the carpet is wrinkly ha ha. Rgds Gary and Julie.
No problem 😊👍
They always look nice and I can see the benefits but I would not be without a bathroom.
Thanks for watching… Have a great week..😊
Brilliant review. Would not like having to go outside for toilet in the night.
Thank you for watching, I agree about the diesel heater 😊👍
Always unravel the cable *dumps on floor*
Hi thanks for a very interesting vlog. One suggestion I have is that you include some B-roll footage to break up the talking. I found 40 mins of commentary off putting. My comment is with the best of intentions.
Thank you for watching and I take that on board 👍😊
Love my Transporter but it is my daily driver and a Kombi not a camper. Would not entertain the compromises that come with the Transporter as a campervan - not able to stand up properly even with a pop top, no fixed bed, no fixed toilet and no shower cubicle.
Thank you for watching and for adding your feedback as an owner.. enjoy your weekend 😊👍
❤❤❤
everyone to their own,my toilet is bigger,i could not cope at all, great vid though
Thank you for watching.. it was interesting to try a camper after all these years in a big caravan and larger motorhomes. Have a great week 😊
How did you turn around the double seat at the front? Too wide to swivel?
Once you undo the nuts and release the seat you turn it anti clockwise and pull it towards the dash . You then pull it round until it faces the other way. It was a lot more fiddly than a single chair that just rotates. I did do it myself a few times but it wasn’t a quick job.
gone bust that company after clicking on the links
Thank you for watching, yes, they went in to administration on the 9th July, I will update the links. Thank you
❤❤❤😊😊😊 Blessings
Thank you for watching ☺️
These type of vans are hopeless for old fart touring. I'd hate not being near a loo for night time usage.
🤣🤷🏼♀️ I didn’t think I was that old… I would choose a camper with a loo personally too. Have a great weekend and thank you for watching 😊
@@HereWeTow Sorry if I offended but I meant myself. I'm fat, overweight and need my home comforts.
We had one, just toooo small for us but good luck and enjoy x
Thank you for watching and have a great weekend 😊
I sleep in 18 gr C...my son thinks it's perfectly fine that it's minus 10...Of course you have to have a suitable sleeping bag or duvet.
You sound hardcore..I hate the cold 😂 That’s Eskimo temperature…thank you for watching 😊
Thank you for watching
Get an awning
I think I prefer a proper campervan tbh, this seems to be a bit of a faff to do things .
