Fun tag! I can't remember when I first watched Booktube but I have definitely bought books because of it. Two I can think of are Fouth Wing, and The Bodyguard by Katherine Center. Oh, and Happily Never After - would never have heard of it without booktube.

Totally with you on Trollope....Booktube has introduced me to so many different classic authors i had never heard of vs the "famous" ones you are required to read in high school (or when i was in high school years and years and years ago😅)
I think in introducing me to so many great authors, Booktube has also given me the courage to try them. Even if they are big or seem strange to me at first. Thanks so much for watching and commenting! 💛

A Book Tube change I’ve noticed in the last couple of years is the number of older adults starting channels, particularly men. When I first started watching in 2017 there seemed to be very few men discussing books.
Katie of “Books and Things” as well as “Steve Donoghue” prompted me to seek out and read Anthony Trollope. So glad I did. Oh and I probably would not have read “The Tenant of Wildfell Hall” by Anne Bronte if it weren’t for Book Tube.
First found Book Tube while searching for reviews of Victorian novels.
I love that story, Mary! Thank you for sharing that with me. I still need to read Ann Brontë. I agree with you that the ages of people on Booktube have changed, which I think is great change! 💛
Glad to hear you mention Chaim Potok’s work-I’ve enjoyed several of his books, but don’t hear them discussed often! If you liked My Name is Asher Lev, I definitely think you’ll like The Chosen 😊

What a lovely discussion! Although I have heard a few booktubers who seem a little disappointed that their channels didn't immediately get thousands of subscribers, I am with you: I would have panicked if my channel had taken off instantly--and would have quickly shuttered the whole thing!
I find the most difficult thing about Booktube is balancing relationships and friendships. I have lost some dear friends because I just couldn’t keep up. There are lots of good things to learn even if your channel is small. 💛
Hi Kelly! My reading has changed dramatically since I started watching booktube. I read non fiction now a thing that never thought possible. Authors that I had never heard before . Oh yeah booktube has expand my reading. I have a Month in the country but having read it yet.

It was fun to hear your responses. As a booktube viewer, my reading has mostly changed because of the reading events that occur annually like Jane Austen July, March of the mammoths, Shaketember, and Victober. I already read books published prior to the 20th century, but those events have pushed me to read much more of those older classics.

I’ve never seen this tag before and you know I like a chatty one 😉 TH-cam tells me I officially joined at the end of 2017 though I think I’d been lurking for a while before that. My misconception was that you couldn’t make real friends online but obviously I was wrong 😉. I’ve found so many books and authors as well as friends, booktube has expanded my reading horizons so much!

I was led to believe most BookTube channels gain lots of subscribers very quickly. I'm happy for people who instantly made dozens of friends, but it's not realistic for them to project their own experience onto everyone. Every channel is different, even if someone does every single thing demanded by people in the "How to improve your channel and content" niche. TH-cam also goes through ebbs and flows just like the blogosphere. So many of my friends and acquaintances from the writing blogosphere back in the early and mid-2010s have stopped blogging entirely or seriously scaled back their activity. It's the nature of any community to shift over time.
Ursula, I hope you don't think I was saying that I got lots of subscribers very quickly or that I'm trying to project my experience on to you. I agree with you about the nature of communities to change over time. Thanks for taking the time to comment on my video. 💛
@@booksimnotreading Oh, definitely not! I was thinking of other people who've said that. Most people I know or know of took awhile to grow their channels, whatever niche they're in.

Hi Kelly, some of the books you mentioned are books. I never would’ve read many of the books you mentioned, especially a month in the country, which, after the first page I thought wasn’t for me and girl, was I wrong! I read James Baldwin in college in my African-American studies class but I’m reading “ if BEALE Street could talk now.
I also had never heard of Anthony trollop, and one day I will read him. I love the book the chosen and I hope you will enjoy it too. Aloha dear friend.❤
