Tony may have a gruff exterior, but he's a good grandfather, you could see how he was involving Eagan and making him part of what needed to be done, he didn't just leave him standing on the sidelines like a little baby he gave him a bit of responsibility and taught him how am important job gets done. Well done Tony, it's good to see a man who isn't afraid to talk to kids and who knows that giving Eagan and chance is the best course of action if he wants his business to not be destroyed by the 3rd generation curse that so many fall to because the founders don't bother teaching the youngest generation the honour, discipline and work ethic needed to succeed. My own Grandad could've done this but he didn't and my passion for the farming is gone
If someone has to instill passion for something in you, then id argue it really isnt passion.

That was my initial thought seeing that one pipe half submerged but if you watch closely the actual pipe they were using was at the bottom of that pond capping it was just not going to happen lol

@@MrBlackopsmaster88 Agreed. That's not it, because he says another four or five feet and that one is already just about above water level. It's the one at 04:43. From how beat up it looks, I doubt it's anything resembling nice and round at the bottom for a cap.

Why didn't they just dam off the end of the pipe with a poly dam, change the valve, then pull the dam out?

yeah, my thought as well. but after they drained the pond and repaired the valve............where is the water gonna come from now? not from that pond, cause the waterlevel is too low.
Couldn't you just block the end of the pipe that's in the pond and then shut off then replace the valve? Can someone explain why you would drain the pond?

Why not cap the inlet pipe? Seems like a logical choice!
Float the foot valve. So it draws water near the top say 4 to 6 ft down. After they get clean water.
Always drives me nuts to see people not getting full scoops, especially when you got a good pile to scoop from.

remember tony has 30 yrs of exp and no backup systems, conducts no inspections no preventative maintenance and uses extremely worn out gear yeah........
To be fair I work in maintenance and most business stupidly run like this because it makes the accountants happy.
Makes absolutely zero sense in practice but in theory it means profits.
So does every other miner in the Klondike, offseason equipment gets rebuilt when needed and they do have mechanics on hand to service at intervals, stuff the tv show doesn’t show because it’s not dramatic
@James Card given the fact I have maintained complex equipment and this is a show manufacturing drama I would say I figured out their script yes. You can pick your ass up now fool.

They should install valves on each side of the pump to isolate it for repairs
should have had a valve on the intake, so they could have just shut it and saved all the time they spent draining and refilling that pond, as well as not flooding the yard... how much money would that have saved with just a little thinking ahead???
...this guy’s mining engineering ingenuity has no limits and he orchestrates the problem solving sequences with the flair of a true Maestro ~ making ‘problems’ to appear like their ‘normality’. Imagine what’s going on in young Eagan’s head after thís enlightening excursion...?!?

Why not plug the intake pipe instead of drain the pond?... Or one better, take this opportunity to install a second valve at the same inlet.
I see a lot of comments saying a
Cap the pipe but the pipe they were actually using went all the way to the bottom if you watch after they drained it you can see there 2 pipes one is much lower than the other

And that is why you put a valve near the entrance to your pond ..no wasting time draining and filling again
2 valves would have solved that problem if one lets go you have a spare
@John Pruett I worked at a Waffle plant for 18 years their were many valves most of their functions was to protect the other valves lol

If its the upstream valve it wouldn't help in this case...
50% of the time it will be the wrong one, except Murphy's law saya it's the wrong one 90% of the time.
or, or. just cap of the the pipe that’s connected to reservoir so you can work on it.

Ranges from 16-30 hr depending on experience usually, and how big the company you are working for is, most of the money is in the overtime (12-16 hour days sometimes if they don’t have nightshift) and if you get lots of gold out usually a hefty bonus at the end of the year

why didnt you just put a plug in the end of the pipe in the pond then you could take the valve apart with out losing any water from the pond
that's what i was thinking. Just and plastic end cap and job done.
They couldn't temporarily put a cap or a flexible hose on the end of the pipe in the pond to get it above the level of the busted valve?

instead of pumping it down why not make a cap to pout over hose wile u repair valve then u not loosing water and time waiting

Use a plug to plug the pipe next time then throwing out the water away
All you have to do is put a cap in the intake of that water tube and that water won't leak out when they disconnect that valve. Even a piece of wood to cover the inlet should slow it down kinda like a big restrictor plate. These cats really aren't thinking scientifically.
