Always a good day when you post! One idea that you gave me was perhaps letting the players play as their animal companions or a group npcs they left behind at a town!
Looking forward to expanded videos on all these ideas. Love the idea of folklore being mentioned by towns people. It puts a dig at the absent person and eventually everyone will have a time they've missed. Hopefully it will be less hurtful, if so, and people will look forward to what folklore gets told regardless of their past attendance.

I GM an episodic Blades in the Dark campaign. As long as anybody shows up, we play. No re-balancing needed, the players just have to find other solutions to the planed problems. I loved your ideas and I will give them a chance asap. Dreamquests sound very interesting! I want them! I need them! :D
Hurray! A new video! I love the Dream Quest idea. I think I will prepare a couple of those. As a bonus for the players that do make it, I will have the characters wake from their dream quest with one of their mental attributes increased by 1.
OMG - I haven't seen a HH video in my feed in forever! Since freaking awesome dang Wanderer's Guide Kickstarter!!! And those videos from your family farm! Have you not been sending videos? Or is TH-cam not feeding me your videos- so frustrating? I'll check right after this. OK, so again, thanks for the video. I Love your stuff. I run 1 shots at local conventions. I pass out a questionnaire asking what environments people have NOT enountered and I can almost always start people out in the Wanderer's Guide book and then lead them to a Battle Map encounter. It's an awesome transitional visual that helps people know what's going on. It's the best setting establishment shot! I also use that Purple and Grey Mountain fortrace as my visual for the intro to Czardarock SunBlight's home in Icewind Dale - as soon as people see it, they drop a load in their pants at the SCALE of the visual! Please talk to those people and tell them to make another... but instead of those little circles, make Pawns so they are more compatible to other systems like Paizo and such. Or, instead of circles, you can make the little map symbol with the pointy part (circle with one hard angle corner) for precice placement. Sorry, I freaked out on this post!

Some pretty cool ideas. I could see using dream quests but having them still have stakes to them. Run it as a subplot throughout the campaign, especially if you have particular individuals who always get left hanging by other players like I do. My current campaign features a cleric/rogue who has some unknown task imparted upon him by a fey queen and dream quests would have been a great way to handle this. Wish I'd thought of it, so thank you.
For a quick silly adventures for inspiration, you should check out “Faster, Purple Worm. Kill. Kill .” With Matthew Lillard (Scooby Doo). The premise is that you are all level 1 Characters that eventually have to fight something that is virtually impossible to beat, like a Purple Worm.
you might enjoy Rêve: the Dream Ouroboros, a french origin RPG where the characters are dreamed up by sleeping dragons having a shared dream world. as for Domains of Dread, I created a bunch of similar that I call the Curio Realms of Woe, that are based more on the idea that they are places and people whose stories grant a sort of immortality based on stories that preserve the memories of them in the cultures the started in, on the stories of those drawn in to these realms and survive. (similarly there is Curio Realms of Wonder, a fairytale/myth version, both being having ravens as watchers like Huginn and Muninn)
In my home campaign, the Plane of Dreams resides within the Ethereal Plane. It’s where souls go during a long rest, and a space where outer plane beings are the closest to the a players souls without going to the material plane. It’s a place that’s incredibly shapeable, an insight of how the gods themselves crafted the material world. Physically traveling to the Plane of Dreams however can be a dangerous experience, as dreaming souls normally return to their bodies in the case of harm and dread. Creatures known as Nightmares in particular are malicious beings that live within the Dream that are adept at overwriting the malleable dreamspace of others. Occasionally dreamers may run into each other within the Plane of Dreams, especially elves. Elves who trance are much more adept at dreaming lucidly, not needing to rest for as long but also able to journey through and experience the Dream at a much faster pace. So yes. Dream adventures I’d love to hear about! I often use dreams already in my game for characters to have moments of reflection, insights on events to come, or a chance to connect with an otherwordly being (gods, patrons, powerful dream spirits)
We actually wrote a little series of adventures based in the land of dreams. They are pretty fun and as you indicated the concept lends some pretty strong narrative exceptions. Collab maybe?
Love dream quests. But don't make them for nothing. Give the players a small piece of info that will help them in the real campaign. A small secret so the players feel like there is a reward for those who show up. Good ideas!
