My dad asked me who I would recommend the OP live action to and I said “anyone who likes to have a good time.” As long as you aren’t someone who needs gritty dark media that is serious all the time there is so much to enjoy in this series.
You aren't thinking of the big picture then. What's the point in focusing on a character who isn't particularly featured in any of the next arcs season 1 covers? Even Sanji has more emphasis in the Arlong Park arc after his "own" arc". They can focus on him correctly, when it's time to, in any future seasons. It's fine.
Yeah... the showrunners already said they have a 6 seasons plan... i dont know where i heard it and i agree, but if its done right the whole series could be done in 12 seasons...

I've been waiting for your reaction to the Garp reveal since you watched the 2 episodes of the anime he appears in (and actually, if you go back to the 2nd one, the scene where he overhears CobyMeppo talking about Luffy will get a bit of a perspective shift with this new knowledge)
I love the happiness this show brings you, we can clearly see it throughout this reaction series! I'm a huge One Piece fan myself and was watching this with my mother, and I jumped from my couch in pure joy when We Are started playing. It is such a great moment for the fans c:
The 3 seconds it took for the garp reveal to sink in was hilarious xD Also that second after of him going through the implications in his mind of what that means and what that changes was great
I think what makes the Kuina flashback so effecting in the anime that's missing here (and even missing in the manga) is the aftermath. Watching Zoro struggle and train after her death, trying to forget her but haunted by her ghost and memory is so powerful. It's my favorite part of that episode.
Right now is the best time to be a one piece fan. It’ll be so cool to watch the end of the story unfold with everyone getting into it, especially with all of the attention its been getting, with all the new fans catching up. It’ll be a once in a lifetime type of experience that you can only experience by being in that moment.
So in one of the Romance Dawn oneshots before One Piece got serialised, Garp was the one who gave the hat to Luffy, not Shanks. Oda didn’t really change Garp’s design, so he gave him the dog mask so people who’d read that oneshot wouldn’t realise it’s the same grandfather character.
I'm glad that they at least paid hommage to how Kuina died in the original story. Kuina's sword, her soul, falls down the stairs as it is taken from Zoro during the fight with the black cat pirates.
I just don't understand why people keep trying to push the BS narrative that she killed herself. She has no reason since Zoro gave her a renewed drive to keep improving. Really pisses me off.
@@reverse_aquamath Kuina died falling down the stairs in a tragic random accident. Her sword falling down the stairs away from Zoro echoed that in this episode that shows her and Zoro's story. That's all I was referencing. I didn't mention the long debunked theory of her killing herself.
Completely caught up on the anime and manga, but I still teared up when they played "We Are." It's just special. And yeah, the reveal of Garp as Luffy's grandfather is about 290 episodes early. That's my second biggest frustration with the live action (the first is how much they shorted Usopp; this arc was supposed to be about him). It's not the biggest spoiler they could've revealed, but it's a big one. Don't worry though, there are plenty more in that episode alone.
"That's my second biggest frustration with the live action" I agree with the Usopp frustration but the Garp storyline and reveal was definitely a good idea. Not only is the LA its own thing so it's sort of irrelevant what it does in order or not as long as it's for the good of the LA's storylines (by definition it can't be a spoiler), but on top of that it doesn't even spoil anything major. Everyone who's been a fan of OP for years at the time already knew Garp was most likely Luffy's Grandad (from the alternate chapters of OP that were released before the story even started), it wasn't a big secret or anything. That's why when it's revealed in the manga, it's only a small part of the discussion and there are tons of other cool things to discover, because most avid readers back then had suspicions about it already.
@@Arkayjiya He's only just started the anime so for him, yeah, this is a spoiler. It's far from the biggest spoiler out there but it was still big enough that it did matter.
@@Rutabega_NG I know where he is in the anime. I'm saying it's not the responsibility of a different show not to spoil the anime. "but it was still big enough that it did matter." Sure, it matters, but it just isn't bad in any way.
If we wanna get real technical about it, this is a different show and therefore did not spoil anything - the people calling this a early reveal/spoiler did. There is no reason this relationship between Luffy and Garp had to be the same here as it is in the Original or the anime adaptation. Some food for thought.
I like how both in this video and in the chopper video that I just watched for the anime. Nerdy is using the cloud keyboard wrist rest as a baton to illustrate points.
It's so interesting. I think everyone who has seen enough of the anime was really surprised when they chose to do that reveal at this point but it also makes a lot of sense in the additional storyline they've added here with Garp chasing Luffy around. Without the context, it wouldn't make a lot of sense. Very cool stuff!
6:00 She's right!! Although it was comfirmed relatively recently *in the manga-only Q&A*, Zoro and Kuina are distant cousins. Zoro's grandma and Kuina have the same last name. Edit: So about Garp's dog hat. Garp's face is shown in the very first LA scene. You still don't know what he looks like in the anime.
I never got into anime prior to watching this live action, but I recently started 'One Piece'. I started out watching an episode here and there to full on binge watching once I hit episode 100. I got to the Garp reveal this weekend.
Speaking of Zoro's character... dude climbed out of a well _behind_ the house. Next time we see him, he's on the road _in front_ of the house, walking away from it.
Kuina either fell down some stairs or self deletion, had depression and her father told her couldn't become the greatest swordsman. Though was seen as to dark and is a theory that might be real.
In the anime Garp arrives with Coby and Helmeppo in tow and wants to talk with Luffy. Everyone in the crew knows who Garp is and they lose their shit. Then the reveal happens and they really lose their shit. Thats also when Luffy and Zoro see Coby and Helmeppo ever since they left them back in Shell’s Town to join the Marines in the beginning of the series. So their progress is also a reveal. The live action has changed quite a bit here
Nerdy this entire reaction so far: "wow I am on charted waters this is so great" Nerdy at the end of this episode being handed a reveal he hasnt gotten to in the anime yet: "Oh holy shit what"
@ 17:44 Is it just me, or is that the same room they used for the epic flight scene in The Matrix Reloaded? That scene with Neo vs The Merovingian’s entire goon squad.
I'm excited for next episode. It was by far my favorite episode of the series. So much happens. So many characters get introduced. It's got some of the best fighting. It just rocks.
for what it's worth? the second "romance dawn" one-shot technically gave away that garp, or someone who looks like the dude, was intended to be Luffy's grandpa as well. i think oda's initial purpose to use the dog-hat was to hide his face until he was ready to reveal that. it's a one-shot from like 1996 - before the series-proper even started up.

Terrific reaction. Loved your reaction to Grandpa! After watching the LA, I have gone and watched the anime thru the East Blue saga and have enjoyed it also.
Yah, it's a big reveal and way sooner than in the manga/anime, but at least it's a backstory reveal/spoiler and not active plot line, and they kind of had to reveal it earlier to make Garp's pursuit a more compelling thread in East Blue.
Not a spoiler but additional knowledge from the world: the marine kuro used to fake his death was helmeppo's dad, captain Morgan. It's how he got his promotion. (Jango hypnotized to believe it, but he isn't in the live action)
My major pet peeve in this episode is that, in the scene where kid Zoro train with bamboo swords the string that’s put on them for transport is still on. Yes it’s not actually important but if have train with those sword you know they are basically as hard as solid wood until you take them apart and sandpaper the inside. If the prop department took less than a second to cut off one tiny string that would be enough for it to look like prepared them correctly and I would not care.
On the Jamie Lee Curtis thing, the showrunners for season 2 responded to her tweet about "that" role basically begging her to send a contract offer once the strike was over. There is a high chance we will see her.
The Garp reveal is perfectly fine imo. It's a cool reveal in the manga anime mind you, but it's not even the best moment of the episode it happens in so it's not gonna ruin anything for you. And since the LA decided to make Garp a primary antagonist here, I think the reveal flows naturally from that. Hiding it would have done more harm than good. I don't always agree with the LA's change, but most of the time, I dislike their execution, not their concept. And that's true here too: There are a few things about Garp's storyline in the LA that I don't really like, but the idea to reveal his connexion to Luffy is not one of them, that was a good idea.
its not really about the patriarchy its about physiology, girls can match and somewhat have an edge over boys until about 13 this is because girls start puberty before boys but once boys start puberty, they undergo rapid changes in physiology, when the effects of testosterone heavily augment a boys physiology, size and strength rapidly increase and by the time boys are 15 barring extrme cases there is no way a girl can catch up by adulthood men have around 25% more mucle mass, and bones and muscle fibers are that are considerably denser, this results in women only having between 52% and 66% of the strength of a man of similar height and weight. for example you take 2 people a man and a women who are both 5F 120 lbs and both of them train to the same intensity, lets say the guy can bench 215lbs on average the girl would be able to bench press between 111.8 lbs and 141.9lbs, so yes kuina is 100% correct in a real world setting zorro would eventually surpass her
Love everything about this, especially your OP shirt! You have the same kind of love and reactions as I did watching the LA show. I almost wish we watched it together ^^'
Late as hell with this, but Luffy has a bludgeoning resistance not an immunity. It's just that the bludgeon type attacks have to come from people as strong or stronger than Luffy to hurt him.
Luffy has such a great yell.. It really does add to it.. lol.... EDIT: OMG and her reaction at the end... "Oh was that the reveal everyone was talking about" HAHAHAHAHAHA
29:22 oh I love how Nerdy also confidently agrees on this one😂 Especially he's just barely 100 episodes in. Imagine how he could love One Piece even more
so happy to see you guys enjoying this show. i've been out one piece fan since the beginning and i thought the live action series really did the anime justice.
even though they had to condense the entire syrup village arc in the span of 2 episodes and cut a few characters and things, the upside Kuro got to be glowed up from a bland pretty one dimensional villain to much more of a slasher killer, also use him on the more vulnerable side of the strawhats, having him stalk Nami, Usopp, (and Kaya) Also Zoro's random "grappling hook" he attempted is the rope and hook for the well)
Without much surprises , Nerdy , or rather both of you , get why it's such a good adaptation , despite some unfortunate cuts here and there that take meaningful moments away . There is one element despite being minor , that does not quite work well imho . The naming of the ship ... I only find odd that Luffy , would name something as important as his first ship , to honor someone he does not know , did not interact with , that did not even get to sacrifice himself for him or his crew . Without spoiling the anime version just in case , as we know , they are happily gifted an already named "Going Merry" ship instead . Works better , without trying to force a relationship that they did not even try to create in the LA .
See I viewed it as Luffy naming it after Merry as a way of saying thank you to Kaya. He is saying "I know you're sad about your friends death, but his memory will live on" and that is a gift in return for a gift in my opinion.
@@NerdyNightly It's a good way to see it . But the way i view Luffy , it feels incredibly "mature" for him . Even if "brain-dead Luffy" often read people spot on , and react the perfect way in some clutch moments . And Live action Luffy is also less blunt , more aware of his surroundings , and acting more heroic , in a more Hollywood "obvious" way . So it felt off . Of course , I'm just nitpicking at a scene that didn't resonate with me , anyway.
This was an interesting way of separating Nami and Ussop from Zoro and Luffy. Nerdy knows so I'm sure he'll explain but the plot devices to seperate them are interesting... Still unsure if it's a good or bad interesting imo.
I see Garp beeing Luffys Gramps is a spoiler. But there will be so much more shocking and unexpected reveals in the Manga/Anime later on. You will love then as well!
you got spoiled about garp being luffy's grandfather. That reveal is at episode 313 tho. i waited for your reaction in the reveal part. i knew it! You would freak out. 😄
The whole series is kids playing at pirates on the playground pirate ship. Nami is the bug sister with a car. Everyone has their wacky power. Luffy hates his big rock of a grandpa so much he wants to be the complete opposite and so he becomes made of rubber. It all makes sense.
Subtle dumbass Zoro getting lost moment - the well is around 100ft from the mansion and in clear view, and he still manages to end up on the road back to town. Mackenyu plays him off as deadpan so well that I missed that the first time.
Just an FYI. A lot of viewers believe that Kuina is not actually dead, but faked her death (maybe with her father's help) in order to find a better way to follow her dream and keep her promise to Zoro. Considering stuff Oda has done in the story that you haven't encountered yet, this theory is very plausible.
The major thing that is missing that it shows the common mistake about Usopp. Usopp is not a coward. He is afraid but he faces his fears and does what he can. As far as women go I have yet to see any woman that is not a strong woman. I agree the mundane nature of Zoro's friend's death is what makes it important.
the better outcome of Nerdy being "spoiled" by this episode is that for any of us watching the anime reacts we get in like 4 months when it's said in the anime and he'll be maybe blind sided by how it's done in the anime
i feel sorta bad that they reveal grap relations to luffy this early just to give viewer that shock factor and it work for people who are new to one piece...
Lmfao when I say I've been eagerly awaiting the reaction to Garp's reveal, you don't even know how happy I am that it exceeded my expectations, hahaha. Edit: there's a theory that Kuina unalived herself but it was purposely worded in world like an accident to avoid bringing shame or negative attention to her.
Luffy and Garp have some definite genetic character traits in common, one in particular that will be revealed in the first scene of the next episode! 😉😁🤭

by adulthood men have around 25% more mucle mass, and bones and muscle fibers are that are considerably denser, this results in women only having between 52% and 66% of the strength of a man of similar height and weight. for example you take 2 people a man and a women who are both 5F 120 lbs and both of them train to the same intensity, lets say the guy can bench 215lbs on average the girl would be able to bench press between 111.8 lbs and 141.9lbs, so yes kuina is 100% correct in a real world setting zorro would eventually surpass her
The fight choreo was awesome!
Kuro's stabby stabby move makes me think Voldo from Soul Calibur X.X
Love everything about this, especially your OP shirt! You have the same kind of love and reactions as I did watching the LA show. I almost wish we watched it together ^^'
Nerdy, when we see a true fan of One Piece, we know it. And in your pure, childish joy, we see a fan
I was a little upset little Zoro wasn't introduced, with his challenge to the dojo and his face-off with Kuina, wielding 9 shinai.
Ooo it's so good seeing Nerdy light up when they played We Are!
Halfway through I remembered the Garp reveal was coming and got so excited. Did not disappoint.
I also missed the veggies.
The veggies and Jango are missed.
With a 20 million budget per episode…. I really loved the live action. Wish theres more episodes though. ❤
One thing i dont understand why they left it out, was no mention that zoro's sensei was kuina's dad. Was kind of surprised that was just glossed over
29:22 oh I love how Nerdy also confidently agrees on this one😂
Especially he's just barely 100 episodes in. Imagine how he could love One Piece even more
Beauty of one piece once you get into it you just can't stop liking it to loving it
so happy to see you guys enjoying this show. i've been out one piece fan since the beginning and i thought the live action series really did the anime justice.
E4
01:36 Zoro Flashback
20:35 Bell, New Ship, Kiss
24:03 Grandpa?!
Some people call ussop "Nose-tradamus"
Hahahahaah his face at "grampa?"😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂
even though they had to condense the entire syrup village arc in the span of 2 episodes and cut a few characters and things, the upside Kuro got to be glowed up from a bland pretty one dimensional villain to much more of a slasher killer, also use him on the more vulnerable side of the strawhats, having him stalk Nami, Usopp, (and Kaya)
Also Zoro's random "grappling hook" he attempted is the rope and hook for the well)
Without much surprises , Nerdy , or rather both of you , get why it's such a good adaptation , despite some unfortunate cuts here and there that take meaningful moments away .
It seems that not one else has, so I will be the one to acknowledge your Rent reference.
I see Garp beeing Luffys Gramps is a spoiler. But there will be so much more shocking and unexpected reveals in the Manga/Anime later on. You will love then as well!
Do you know the cast gave to Oda, the writer of One piece , a real transponder snail that works? There Is also a video. Kuina rules
you got spoiled about garp being luffy's grandfather.
Mackenyu plays him off as deadpan so well that I missed that the first time.
one piece. the first media to make me go all: "you know...maybe furries can be cool" & then togashi came along & the rest is history
Wait, what did togashi do?
@@eternaleclipse7813 the chimera ant arc. non-binary neferptiou & the like
@@GalekC 😅
This episode was really good. The ending was perfect with the additional of We are. Also you got spoil lol
Just an FYI. A lot of viewers believe that Kuina is not actually dead, but faked her death (maybe with her father's help) in order to find a better way to follow her dream and keep her promise to Zoro. Considering stuff Oda has done in the story that you haven't encountered yet, this theory is very plausible.
the theory is 100% impossible
Love from Belgium 🇧🇪 ❤ Really enjoyed this episode ❤
QUESTION
Where did you get that One Piece shirt?
Yo @nerdy, where you get the one piece shirt from?
the garp reveal was fantastic! also nerdy, youre not ready for next episode
Surprise Surprise!
Have tissues ready for the next few episodes.
Damn early Grandpa reveal! XD
In the manga was revealed at vol 45 (LMAO)
the better outcome of Nerdy being "spoiled" by this episode is that for any of us watching the anime reacts we get in like 4 months when it's said in the anime and he'll be maybe blind sided by how it's done in the anime
i feel sorta bad that they reveal grap relations to luffy this early just to give viewer that shock factor and it work for people who are new to one piece...
Where u get your t shirt ? It’s dope
Say goodbye to the era of shafted Uso... I mean, algorithm goddess Kaya.
They are siblings actually there cousins it’s confirmed in an sbs so it’s not a spoiler
You two still need to dress up as nami and luffy
Where do I get that shirt you’re wearing dude cause I want that one piece button up so bad
You would have waited till water seven for the info of garp being luffys gf 😂 btw you will love water seven 7️⃣!
they basically got the same scar
The "producers hope for 12 seasons, with strong support from the creator, Eiichiro Oda" according to news artcles. The hard part is maintaining the excellence season 1 has provided.
Nah, the hard part is lasting more than three seasons on Netflix...
the reason most shows only last that long is because it becomes increasingly expensive @@mbpoblet
Yay you finally got bamboozled by one of the most epic reveal in one piece and it’s just the beginning! I hope by the next season of live action you’ll be caught up with the latest episodes and arcs of one piece anime because you definitely cannot afford to fall behind. Good luck🎉
How dare you disrespect the magnificence of the Usopp Pirates by calling them “the veggies”?! 😤
how the heck did you manage to watch a 63 minute episode in just 23 minutes ?? lol
"One two...Kuro coming for you !...."
With this episode, I was mostly waiting for your reaction to that last scene lmao! It's such a fucking decision to add this to the live action! I love it, but it's one of the most controversial scenes I think.
Kuro means black in Japanese, so Kuro Neko would be Black Cat.
Oh sweet summer child. You haven't seen anything yet.
