Fabulous video, thank you. I tried the official EndNote Training videos but this was SO much easier to understand and you answered all my questions in your instructions. Thank you for taking the time to make it!
Excellent! Thank you so much. Would love a follow on video for any other features that would be useful to know about using endnote for research purposes/assignment writing.
Thank you very much. I was wondering about the possibility to know how many times a certain reference has been mentioned within my article or thesis. Is there such property in endnote ?
Hi - thanks for the comment. While there may be another way, the easiest that I know of is to right click on an in-text citation, go to 'Edit Citations' and then select 'more'...and it will bring up a screen with all of your used references. One of the columns on the table that comes up is "count" which is the number of times the reference is used.
Fantastic resource, well presented training video. Only suggestion is to include how to add/fix multiple authors ie. new line each as surname, given names or initials
Hello! When I insert my references into MS Word, I get a number behind my reference and I have the feeling that it doesn't make it in APA 7th style... but i have no clue how to chang that. So for example I want to reference the World Health Organization, it inserts this: (Organization, 2022 #3)... How does it go to APA 7th? Thank you for the video!! :)
This can happen if the Temporary Citation Delimiters in EndNote were modified. They should be set to curly braces { and } and not parentheses ( and ). In EndNote desktop, click on the Edit menu (or EndNote menu on the Mac) and select Preferences. Click on Temporary Citations and then click the “EndNote Defaults” button to set this back to curly braces. You can then click OK or Save and close the Preferences on the Mac. In your document, make sure any citations you have added are changed from (author, year, #reference number) to {author, year, #reference number}. When that is done, you can turn on Instant Formatting. It will no longer scan items in parentheses and just items in curly braces.
thanks a lot for the video, concise and very helpful. Quick question - you mentioned that saving the library file in the cloud could potentially corrupt it. On that note, do you have any experience saving word documents in the cloud (onedrive in my case) while working with endnote? Any problems there?
Thanks for the feedback! Regarding the cloud - I always save mine one onedrive and I’ve never had an issue with any of my libraries. It’s always worth copying the 2 library files occasionally to a local drive just to be safe (a backup of any import work is always a good idea of course!). Personally I’ve never had a problem and no student I know has had an issue but the manufacturer does recommend using a local drive so best to take steps to protect yourself.
Thank you for the video. I just tried to insert a citation in Turabian format. It gave me the bibliography entry but not the inline reference. If I edit citations, it shows the inline reference {author name, year, and #}. If I hit undo, the inline reference shows for a second and then disappears. Any ideas?
Hi. Thanks for the comment! As for your problem, it could be a couple of things. Firstly, in Word go to the Endnote Tab and make sure it says "Instant formatting is on" in the bibliography section of the ribbon. Also are you using a Mac? On some machines with Mojave, attempting to use the EndNote CWYW tools may result in returning to the EndNote library, or an Error message. Mojave includes new Security & Privacy functions which can prevent EndNote from being able to correctly automate. To correctly set these options… Go into the Apple menu Click System Preferences Click Security & Privacy Click the Privacy tab (along the top) Click the Automation options, along the left. Here, make sure that both “Microsoft Word” and “EndNote X#” are both turned on. With this automation turned off, the Cite While You Write functions will not work. Fingers crossed! Otherwise your uni tech support, or clarivate tech forums can be helpful too.
Hi! Not exactly one command, but close enough. Create a new folder on your desktop for the PDF files. Go to the EndNote Library data folder. The folder name will look like this: My EndNote Library.Data You should see three folders: PDF, rdb, and tdb. Enter .pdf on to the search box on the top right corner. Click PDF Document. All the PDF files will be displayed. Highlight all the PDF files. Copy and paste them into the new folder.
When I want to enter my citation to my text as explained on he video via Word it appears that there are no references in my ref screen. I put in the letter a as an example but no references appears for me to enter any ref to my Word doc. What could be the problem . South Africa
I've only had that happen once and shutting down the library, word, and restarting the pc resolved it. Usually it’s a bit of a conflict between the two programs. Are you getting a specific error message?
Sometimes just a full restart can help. Otherwise check that the endnote add on is not disabled. The clarivate website has some great support forums - support.clarivate.com/Endnote/s/article/EndNote-Windows-CWYW-tools-are-disabled-and-missing-in-Word?language=en_US
I ran into trouble straight away, I get a message when I clicked download. It is asking me to select an import filter, and no matter what I select nothing moves across to the Endnote library.
One of the best videos for a newbie like me, answers the questions a user may think of before even thinking of it.
Thank you so much!!

Also, Turabian requires a page # in the reference. Is there a way to add this?

Hello! Can we download all the full text PDFs we have collected in Endnote to our computer system at one command?
Hi! Not exactly one command, but close enough.
Create a new folder on your desktop for the PDF files.
Go to the EndNote Library data folder. The folder name will look like this: My EndNote Library.Data
You should see three folders: PDF, rdb, and tdb.
Enter .pdf on to the search box on the top right corner.
Click PDF Document.
All the PDF files will be displayed.
Highlight all the PDF files.
Copy and paste them into the new folder.

Is that when importing an existing folder/database?
i have got a trouble ehen i insert citation it says that "cannot edit range"
Most of the time this happens when you have a Mendeley plug-in in Word. Try disabling that and try again...
