This is very , very good footage , though easily attained with a capable drone . Nice job ..... Your title is deceiving , making it sound like this was just put there and forgotten about ; which is far from accurate . The original was erected / installed in 1986 by Gene Stilp & friends . Gene constructed the original out of Venetian blinds and plywood in a friend's garage . He recruited about a dozen friends to help perch this atop the old bridge pylon. It lasted a few years until eventually succumbing to the elements. A new statue was set in place in 1997 by helicopter . The new/current statue is beginning to erode , repairs are under review. The best view you could ever get is by kayak , though the area is quite dangerous . This area is known as the Dauphin narrows . Use caution kayaking here , navigate through this section on the east side of the river to avoid the many natural hazards . Take care , live well 👍
I love this statue and look forward to seeing it every time I pass through Harrisburg. In Nov 2019 I was surprised to see the statue had been painted red, white and blue! I much prefer the simple white. The entire Susquehanna River region is stunningly beautiful and you captured it so well.
Pulled this off of google: "On July 2, 1986 a replica of the Statue of Liberty was erected on one of its piers in the Dauphin Narrows of the Susquehanna River. The replica was built by Gene Stilp, a local activist. It was made of venetian blinds and stood 18 feet (5.5 m) tall." The first one got taken out by mother nature in the 90's and a second Lady of Liberty (25 ft tall) was erected again by Stilp which is what you see today. I've been driving up and down Rt. 15 and 322 and have been seeing this since 1995. Pretty cool. Thanks for the close up view of this local landmark!
the original was built by a lawyer and his friends and was made out of venition blinds. A storm knocked that one down so dauphin county raised the funds to have one built. www.cbsnews.com/news/mystery-builders-of-lady-liberty-replica-revealed/
Gene Stilp built it was placed it there in the middle of the night. He built the first in the 80's in a friend's garage and it became so popular that when the first one was washed away he replaced it with a stronger one a few years later. He kept his identity a secret for many years.
I'm not sure exactly where this is but I know there's one there Harrisburg Pennsylvania. And there's I think a few others around them in the river. I looked up the Susquehanna River tonight on Google and I was shocked to learn that it's the longest on the East coast and I think 16th in the nation. obviously most people that are watching this probably know that information and I'm not going to bore you with the details but it's out there to look up just look up Susquehanna River. There's a lot of history involved surrounding the river. The fact that will mention that they wanted to try to connect the Susquehanna River with the Allegheny River I guess using lock systems I'm not sure if they ever were successful doing that back in the day or not but I thought that was pretty interesting. Live long and live healthy.

Abandoned? No more so than ANY other statue set in place. Silly title.
It's not at all abandoned. There is a fascinating history behind it and it has become a local landmark.
Hah! Lived in Harrisburg for 5 months and drove by this a few times. Never thought I'd find an HD drone recording of it

Nice footage! Hope to go there soon.
Serious question, but if I wanted to get to the base of the statue, would I be able to swim to it, or would I need a kayak/canoe?
