  • @panamakinal
    @panamakinal ปีที่แล้ว +6

    I'm thinking there's a spike in playlist adds because they're already listening to a playlist, which means they're more likely to utilize Spotify with playlists... Maybe? 🤷

    • @AndrewSouthworth
      @AndrewSouthworth  ปีที่แล้ว +3

      That could be it! There are probably a bunch of reasons, maybe other Spotify curators see a playlist is sharing a song and copy them and share it too?

  • @LP5657

    I think the playlist adds will be higher from playlist services bc the listeners are people who actively listen to playlists and probably curate their own personal playlists so they are more likely to add them to their own playlist rather than use the save feature

    Thanks Andrew for the info and data. Did you see any post-playlist lift in streams after the conclusion of the promotion? It looked like no, but it wasn’t clear from the daily stream line chart.
    Thanks!

    • @AndrewSouthworth
      @AndrewSouthworth  ปีที่แล้ว +4

      Ah I forgot to talk about that. In the video where i'm showing the spreadsheet for this campaign you can see the rows labeled 'Pre' and 'Post', those are the average pre and post campaign daily streams on the song. You can see from those numbers they're basically exactly the same, so no significant lift .
      This is one area where Indie Music Academy actually won, they did cause a post-campaign streaming lift. Hard to tell if this was a fluke or because their engagement was superior or something, but it is worth noting.

    Hey Andrew, I have a possible explanation as for why playlist campaigns lead to a noticeable increase of playlist adds. I think Spotify might consider any new algorithmic playlists featuring your music (such as Radio) as a "playlist add". It doesn't only count user playlists. That would also explain why "playlist adds" always feel exaggerated. I noticed that the playlist approach has increased my Radio streams drastically so I wouldn't be surprised if Radio/algorithmic playlists was a side effect of these big playlists which Spotify categorizes as "playlist adds". Can't really prove it though.

    • @AndrewSouthworth
      @AndrewSouthworth  ปีที่แล้ว +2

      Unfortunately our minimum campaign size is $2,000. Under that it just isn't worth it for either party involved. You can run smaller campaigns, but you'll need to do that yourself. $70 is still probably too small though, i'd either save up for more (like $300) or consider other marketing methods until you can justify a bigger investment.
      Organic content, networking with other artists and outreach to niche curators are likely your best bet right now. It takes time to make things happen with this but you can grow considerably doing this if you do it well.

      no

    • @AndrewSouthworth
      @AndrewSouthworth  ปีที่แล้ว +6

      Technically it can, but the chances of that are incredibly low. In my opinion you should trigger algorithmic playlists with ads and/or organic traffic because both of those sources are high-engagement, and then only use playlisting as a way to add fuel to the fire and push the song an extra 10-15%.
      So if you have a song thats riding the algorithm and you're trying to push it harder or scale it up, blending ads with playlisting can be a more cost effective way to push things further.

      I've tried ads on multiple songs, EVERYTHING depends on the song. (and how well you know your target audience) I have a song on 300k that I spent $500 on ads and songs on 5k streams after spending $100 on ads. You must KNOW your music is good and must KNOW your target audience. Being hopeful or taking guesses gets very expensive.

    • @AndrewSouthworth
      @AndrewSouthworth  ปีที่แล้ว +4

      In this video I look at a few metric that lead to be believe that YouGrow is using real listeners:
      - Follower growth over time looks organic and/or ad driven, no sudden spikes or dips
      - Playlists have a good popularity score average that indicates they likely are organic SEO driven playlists
      - Playlists actually do rank for specific keywords people would search for
      - Traffic isn't coming dominantly from 1 specific city or country, but appears to have many cities and countries
      - Engagement data isn't suspiciously high for playlisting
      - The price / stream is on par with industry standards, nothing seems 'too good to be true'
      It is technically possible to fake every single one of these things, but the complexity and cost of doing so would likely make it less cost effective than just actually using real engaged playlists.
      Scammers are generally looking for low hanging fruit customers, people who don't know how to check this stuff. This goes for music but it also goes for other scams if you've ever watched channels like Kitboga or Jim Browning.

      @@fxcktpass That's how you do business and streaming royalties ain't shit, 10% is a fair offer too. Publishing and copyrights is ownership to your masters. Royalties can be used for anything which is not a form of asset, theses distributors don't pay us all in full anyways unless it's song trust, MLC, and sound exchange, but you have to wait a long ass time to see your money. If I made $4k off of streams, Distrokid or who ever probably only gonna pay $30 knowing them, that's $3 straight to Andrew , how ever, we both have to wait 6months or to a year to see the rest of that money. The key to business is never give more than 50% but give a valuable trade that isn't detrimental to your assets and organization (or artists brand), next you build the relationship to make it long term, you can have 100% of nothing but have 10% of something, that's a successful partnership.

    • @AndrewSouthworth
      @AndrewSouthworth  ปีที่แล้ว +2

      All of these playlisting services are operating in a massive gray area. I do know how they and others guarantee streams though: they refund whatever they can't deliver.
      Behind the scenes they have a contact list of curators, whether through a spreadsheet or a software platform. They send the song to the curators that have playlists in that genre, the curators who want to share it claim it and accept their payment, some will deny it.
      If they can't deliver the streams promised they issue a refund. Often a partial refund but in some cases a full refund if they can't find a fit for it in their network.
      Some companies will just force it into whatever playlists they have, and thats not good. But good ones will refund what they can't deliver.
