The contest starts generally with 50-70 candidates depending the year, and after several rounds, has a final showdown with eight contestants. Out of the eight final contenders, 3 are selected to represent the beauty, harmony, congeniality, grace of Rio Samba Dancers. The three titles are : 2nd Princess, 1st Princess, and finally the great desire and ultimate dream: Carnival Queen.\\
Apart from the status, and recognition, the winners also obtain financial compensation. The Rio Queen of Carnival is entitled to a check of 12,000.00 USD while the two Princess receive a check of 5,000.00 USD.

Sometimes readers and new to the Brazilian Carnival culture, think the contest involves only the samba dance itself. The candidates have also to present themselves with a positive attitude, personality, charisma, have the ability to dance with sometimes heavy costumes, most of all, dance in a natural and graceful manner. It is one minute and a half presentation, and they wait and practice the entire year for this special moment. We hope you enjoy this careful selection.

De los ocho contendientes finales, 3 son seleccionados para representar a la belleza, armonía, simpatía, gracia de bailarines de Samba de Rio. Los tres títulos son: 2 º princesa, primera princesa y finalmente el gran deseo y sueño: Reina del carnaval. Aparte de la situación y el reconocimiento, los ganadores también obtención una compensación financiera.
