I'm a huge Drake Bell fan but I'm also in the last few years a Setzer fan. I disagreed with what you wrote in terms of Bell's guitar player. However, after checking out Setzer and the Stray Cats these last few years, I have to totally agree with you. Brian Setzer is one of, if not the greatest, guitar players that ever lived. As far as Bell's version of the song, I think he was trying to combine the swing from Setzer's orchestra, hence the brass section in his version, with the rockabilly of the song. Bell's a huge fan of Setzer himself and recorded a rockabilly (mostly covers) album with him called "Ready, Steady, Go!" Setzer played on 2 songs - a cover of "I Won't Stand In Your Way" and a Drake Bell rockabilly/swing original "Bitchcraft". This is a great video of Bell playing the song at a concert in 2015; this time, Bell's without a second guitarist so he's playing the lead as well. This is vastly improved guitar playing compared to the days of Bell before he went rockabilly: th-cam.com/video/of_2emNJYk4/w-d-xo.html
What can i say about the legendary Stray Cats the whole package no competition. ❤
Crazy chops. I was lucky to see them in 89 and around 91-2. They were at the top of their game.
Hell yeah
I did also in 91
Baltimore.
Met Jim at his Cat club..
Stray Cats Are Existential!
The man is incredible.
Killer bass line
The 80s... ;) But I'd gladly take another Rockabilly revival anyway.
Brian's sportin' a "pompa-hawk". :D
Bell's version is too slick and both he and his guitar player can't hold a candle to Setzer's classy playing.
No contest here.
