  • I'm joined by the module developer behind MidiQOL, Tim Posney, to explore this epic automation module that powers so many other effects and automation modules in the Foundry VTT ecosystem.
This is Part 1 of 3, where Tim explains some of the major functions of "Midi" like targetting, specials, visual effects, and time-based effects.

It's funny. Baileywiki sounds like me whenever I look at someone's Foundry set up: "Hey, what module is producing *that* effect?" Except that he actually knows what he's doing whereas, I just stare in awe of all the cool modules out there :) Great job on explaining this! It's nice to peek under the hood once in a while and understand what's going on.

Excellent video. Can I ask a quick clarifying question? Tim seems to (17:00) explain a spell that has a 1 round duration would end at the top of the round (Evorae's turn). I thought that a spell of 1 round lasts until the start of the casters next turn, but some last until the end of the casters turn? Would the auto expire function be different on a spell like Command (1R), Shield (1R, start of own turn), and Blade Ward (1R, end of next turn)?

  • @michaelchoate5170

Not sure which module is causing this, I installed the ones mentioned and did most of the settings the same way as you were walking through them.
I used sleep, placed my template and rolled the damage tab to see who would be effected and it actually caused the 5d8 damage to each target in the template instead of just giving me the hp numbers.
Yes, i can work around with manual dice rolling but thought I should point it out and see if anyone knew the best place to modify this to a roll instead of damage given.

Tim may have better advice, but I would start by looking either creating the condition myself, or seeing if there is an item or spell that creates the poison effect in the DAE or Midi compendiums

Everything I look into for Midi is from years ago and a lot has changed. Will we eventually get an updated video on suggested settings or is this still fairly relevant? Trying to build custom items and apparently not being a programmer makes that stupid hard, lol! I'm not sure why the base DND system for a game that requires imagination isn't more customizable.

Ty for the reply before! A slightly less noobish question this time: Is there a repository for midiQOL macros/actors/items (whatever you call them, the things you drag and drop onto character sheets so that everything gets automated for a particular feature/spell/item)? A module or something? I've found a handful of automation macro modules but they've been pretty lackluster and google searches aren't giving me much (sometimes a reddit post with a single script and no explanation how to import it).
I'd imagine people have written scripts for just about everything.
    Awesome videos! Ty!
