Test: Spray the cold griddle with water and then cover it with the silicone mat. Check back in one day. Is it still wet with water? If so, no good, as it will dramatically increase rust, not lessen it. I get that it protects it from dust but rust kills grills over time and trapped moisture causes rust.
Why would you put water on it? I put oil on it and then cover it and haven’t had any rust. This keeps water off of it as does the oil.
If I use this cover after my blackstone cools off, do I still have to grease the griddle and then put it on or can I eliminate that step and just scrape griddle clean with a little water and let dry and put the silicone cover on and lid and hope it doesn't rust?
I still grease mine just to avoid any chance of rust so I can’t tell you for sure if that will work. Let me know what happens if you try it

@@gv4189 it does make the cover a little messy, but I just fold it in on itself and keep putting it back down. when i fire it up i turn it up high and apply more oil to "clean it" before each use
Hello. I have the 28 (w/no lid). I am going to get this exact mat for mine along with the black cover. Do you think I need a steel cover to go over the silicone mat as well?
Not if you also have a canvas cover on it. If you don’t have a canvas cover I’d get the steel cover too.

Aren't these for cooking on? Pretty certain the point is to cook on this to save your griddle top.
Not that I have ever seen. The intention of this style to keep your top clean and from drying out.
