Rap is actually a big part of Persona 3. They hired a rapper called Lotus Juice to make the ost sound more 'youthful'. Lotus basically went "Thats kinda silly but I'll do my best anyway" and the soundtrack for 3 features him heavily and its surprisingly great.

15:00 So the story goes that several Japanese game companies (SEGA for sure, but rumors most others did it to) did not include the actual names of their employees in the credits of games from the mid 80s-early 00s. They told the employees it was to instill a sense of teamwork within the company, but the real reason was they were afraid that if competitors knew which employees worked on which games, it would be easier to poach them. This started going away as the games started going more global. I don’t know for sure if that’s what happened here, but it was a thing. That’s also why a lot of older Japanese games will have nicknames and pseudonyms all throughout their credits.
The openings are very subtle. They give you the theme of the game. Like Persona 3 openings talk about death. A lot. And it is a theme of the game. Shoutouts to Bethany for getting better, therapy rocks! It's such a pleasure seeing Persona go from the niche game to getting so much recognition. Great video ❤
Good job not noticing anything in these that spoils things that come before them! Persona characters are mostly 17 years old in their main games. There's always some classmates that join from the year above or below yours, but the bulk of the team is in their second year of high school. The games are all on a real timeline too, with older versions of characters from previous games cameo'ing in sequels. Persona 4 Arena is an actual sequel to Persona 4, with aged up versions of Persona 3 characters appearing. Mild P4A spoilers below but someone remind me, please; The Rise that does the weird lip licking in the intro is Shadow Rise, right?
It's funny to see them react to glimpses of the darker moments of the games that have lighter openings, the games are rated Mature and have dark elements to them.
Persona has some of the most awesome RPG stories of all time and successful spin offs. What really cool is all persona takes place in the same universe just different timelines. each game story is unique and beautiful, even the spin offs. I guarantee you will cry in most of them. you should do a playthrough when you have the chance.
18:10 Honestly, the first few Persona games DID have more of a horror vibe. It's about not being sure what is real and what is your twisted/manipulated cognition, or some manifestation of the dark side of the collective subconscious. P3 and P4 still have vestiges of horror in them, but they're pretty much gone by the time P5 came around.
Absolutely adore these openings! 4 is still my jam, as much as I will admit that 5 is just a better game overall.. But that small town feel of Inaba is just so charming. That and I'm just so attached to that cast of characters. It's great to see how following 3, they realised what visual style is super unique to that series.. And they just OWNED it.
Just to kinda explain some Persona stuff and some stuff around Persona 5, P5 is so heavily leaned into by Atlus because it was really the first Persona game that captured attention of audiences and outlets outside of existing Persona/JRPG players and media so that's why it has 6 total entries, P5, P5 Royal, P5 The Phantom X, P5 Scramble/Strikers, P5 Dancing in Starlight and P5: Tactica. Really though there's 2 ways to consider in, although Persona 5 Royal is the official cannon story, Persona 5: Scramble/Strikers actually takes place after the end of the base game of Persona 5 and actually tells a whole other story of the crew going on a roadtrip around Japan and doing what they do best, With Tactica and Dancing in Starlight being complete spin offs. Phantom X is a special case, it's set in a parralel universe, existing side characters show up but the main crew of Joker, Morgana etc while don't show up directly in the game, the main protagonist does have congnitive versions of them being Persona users which does indicate your MC in Phantom X at least knows of the old crew and who they were.
Fun facts and general info time!: Persona as you may now is an spin off of "Shin Megami Tensei", the "Personas" the character summons are the demons from the Shin Megami Tensei games, sometimes they have unique redisegns to match the character's story and personality. The probable inspiration of Persona may had come from the game "Shin Megami Tensei: If" wich was a spin of game of the SMT games that took place i a high school setting. In fact, the main character of that game has cameos on Persona 1 and 2. Despite being a spin off, Persona has a more different narrative than SMT, it focuses more in characters and unlike SMT where there are decisions that can change your story a little, that doesnt happen in Persona games (unless its a "social link" or the "final" decision of the game wich can change your ending). Each Persona game has a theme, Persona 3 is death, 4 is truth, and 5 its rebellion. Persona 2 Innocent Sin doesnt have a "specific" theme, but the games focuses on rumours and mistakes, and Persona 2 Eternal Punishment focuses even more on the mistakes part. That is because Persona 2 Eternal Punishment is a sequel to Innocent Sin, even though Persona games tend to have a "deluxe" edition that have a extra story scenario, that is not the case with 2, Eternal Punishment was a full sequel to Innocent Sin in Persona 3 intro you saw the phrase "Memento Mori" those are latin words wich mean "remember that you are mortal" or "remember you will die". Even though Persona 3 has disturbing imaginery with the way they summon their personas, Persona 3 is actually one of the most anti suicid*l games, because the main message of tjat game is to live your life at the fullest and best way you can, in fact, the phrase they use is incomolete, the full phrase is "memento mori, memento vivire" wich translates as "remember that you will die, remember that you will LIVE". In the intro of Persona 1, there was japanese text, if im not wrong the text is actually a famous japanese story, the story talks about a person that dreamt they were a butterfly, but when they woke up, they were human and the butterfly was a butterfly. The person is confusedand thinks "was I the butterfly or was the butterfly me?". So you can say the theme of Persona 1 is identity and the "Persona" concept in general. Persona 4 Arena and Persona 4 Ultimax are crossovers of Persona 3 and 4 with different but connected stories. Persona 4 Arena is about the mysterious shadows appearing again and a figure named "general Teddie", and with the help of the Persona 3 cast (now as adults since time passed) the Persona 4 cast wants to stop this menace, while Persona 4 Ultimax is a sequel that focuses on a mysterious teenager called Sho Minazuki, that has a strange connection with the Persona 3 cast. These games despite being side games are considered cannon because of the Persona 3 characters being adults and the characters remembering past events that happen on the games. Persona Q on the other hand is another crossover, but they are not that important because the characters get their memory erased at the end of the games (wich is kind of funny). Also since you 2 seemed to like the Persona 2 games, those games have probably the craziest stories of any RPGs, without kidding, these are some things that are in the Persona 2 games: demons, aliens, nazis, ressurected samurais, ghosts, ancient gods and probably more weird stuff, despite all those crazy things, Persona 3l2 Duology are considered the as the Persona games with the best stories. Also, the butterfly! The mysterious butterfly appears on every game, on Persona 1 and 2, it also takes a semi human figure, called Philemon, wich is a god and its said that he is the master of the Velvet Room (a place that appears on every game and lets you gain new personas). In Persona 3, 4 and 5 however, it doesnt use its semi human form, and irs a blue butterfly instead of yellow. On Persona 3 he appears at the very beginnind and end, and also in the beginning of the extra episode "The Anwer/Episode Aigis". In Persona 4 he is used to save your progress and in 5 the butterfly appears in major plot momements.
NGL, I don't think you realize how on point a mental health care service sponsor is when it comes to the Persona games and their characters. Especially Persona 5.

Persona 4 Arena is an actual sequel to Persona 4, with aged up versions of Persona 3 characters appearing.
Mild P4A spoilers below but someone remind me, please;
The Rise that does the weird lip licking in the intro is Shadow Rise, right?
Could y'all react to Shin Megami Tensei V: Vengeance All Demons unique skills? I feel like y'all will enjoy them.
I'm so happy this was uploaded on my birthday
Eternal Punishment Remake's OP slaps so hard.
its a remaster but the fella who made the video made an error i guess
I'd love to see you react to the "Trails" openings
Persona, as a series, tends to delve into heavy existential subject matter. They are games that make you think and feel along with the characters.
It's funny to see them react to glimpses of the darker moments of the games that have lighter openings, the games are rated Mature and have dark elements to them.
Yes yes I’ve been waiting for this the music is so good
😎🤘🤗
Ya'll should give the games a try the lighthearted intros really don't a clear picture to the emotional and philosophical depth the games go into.
PERSONA!!!
The creature in P4 is supposed to be a Weird Bear
He's named Teddie or Kuma (Literally Bear)
Funny you should mention Devil May Cry, Dante appears in the sister series SMT. Specifically Sin Megame Tensei Nocturne
i’d rather say father series but sure lmao
Persona has some of the most awesome RPG stories of all time and successful spin offs. What really cool is all persona takes place in the same universe just different timelines. each game story is unique and beautiful, even the spin offs. I guarantee you will cry in most of them. you should do a playthrough when you have the chance.
IVE BEEN WAITING FOR THIS
i almost suggested last week or two for a wildcard Wednesday comment. I'm glad it was on the radar already
WHAT, this was unexpected. I love it!
Wouldn't say a horror vibe, but more more direct existentialism and philosophical. It was far closer to traditional SMT.
Persona games really do have some of the most stylish openings ever!
It's kind of a funny coincidence to have better help as a sponsor for a persona video😂
Persona4 and 5 are so good
Just to kinda explain some Persona stuff and some stuff around Persona 5, P5 is so heavily leaned into by Atlus because it was really the first Persona game that captured attention of audiences and outlets outside of existing Persona/JRPG players and media so that's why it has 6 total entries, P5, P5 Royal, P5 The Phantom X, P5 Scramble/Strikers, P5 Dancing in Starlight and P5: Tactica.
That is because Persona 2 Eternal Punishment is a sequel to Innocent Sin, even though Persona games tend to have a "deluxe" edition that have a extra story scenario, that is not the case with 2, Eternal Punishment was a full sequel to Innocent Sin
in Persona 3 intro you saw the phrase "Memento Mori" those are latin words wich mean "remember that you are mortal" or "remember you will die".
You can watch P3 Portable opening upside down to see it from a female main character's perspective :D
Man. 18 years since OG P3
funfact: for persona 3 portable if you watch it upside down you get kotone perspective
