@@AndrewHomer im feeding peter's professional 20 20 20 at 2g per gallon around once a week. i also use real growers recharge microbe/kelp mix once a month. i start feeding after the tree has used some of it's stored energy in spring and stop in late fall.
@@snejinka_in one big reason i cut the side shoots off is because it wouldn't take long before all my lower growth at the base would be shaded out and start dying off. with so many pines close together, i have to pay attention to light exposure. I've also seen some growers with 6 foot sacrifice branch with a bonsai below that already looked done. as long as you don't cut it, it will thinken the trunk. you can leave branches from the whorl on if they're not shading anything out.
@@oscarf.martinez5556 they dry out at different rates at different times of the year, so it depends. i water when i feel like the pot has started to dry out. i don't want the pot bone dry, though. the young pines in coco coir/ perlite in little pots are easy to pick up and feel if the pot is light compared to how it feels after wtering. i can tell how dry the pines in bonsai soil are by looking at the topsoil from experience.

@Thanks so much. I’m trying to grow pines as well but so far it has been a hit and miss. Too much water or not enough
