The Outsider in Dishonored has some serious “I’m not mad, just disappointed” vibes. When you talk with him after eliminating a target non lethally he’s fascinated by your cleverness. If you just kill your target he seems bored
I have a theory that him giving Daud powers was him playing the long game: Outsider was bored, but also bored of being a god. Daud sets off a chain of reactions that eventually culminates in Death of the Outsider. If he's disappointed, it could be not just boredom but also "if you were more interesting, I have 4000 years worth of math suggesting I have a chance at freedom"

No spoilers if you haven't, but "bored of" wouldn't be the term I'd use. "exhausted with his charge" is more fitting. Other than that you're spot on.
@@DarkDragon1889 The problem stems from the outsider acting very differently in the first game compared to the others. I actually liked him more there, and the comment does fly with that one. The later ones fit your comment more, where he actually became less interesting to me. So it depends: which outsider are we talking about?

Also its kind of assumed you've gotten a few penalties because if you've had a perfect trial so far, at the end when you're accused of wasting the court's time and bluffing too much it doesn't make sense

At the beginning of Crash Bandicoot 3 when you enter your first level, it's possible to complete it without obtaining the level's crystal (or quit it from the pause menu). If you do this, Aku Aku will remind you about how important it is to collect the crystals so that Cortex and Uka Uka don't take over the world. If you do it again, Aku Aku will outright say "you are not listening to me" in a very disappointed tone. The N-Sane trilogy even turned this into an achievement
On Steam the achievement is only for Crash 2 and it's Cortex that gets angry and disappointed.

How is the Stanley parable not on this list, the whole game is the narrator being disappointed in you for playing the game rather than doing literally anything else.

Here’s an idea for a video. “Reality Check bosses.” Those bosses that everything leading up to it have been a piece of cake, but hit you so hard you have to wonder if you even know how to play the game right. Ex. Crawmerax the invincible in Borderlands 1.

I’m surprised that Call of Duty: Modern Warfare (2019) wasn’t in here. When you shoot the baby a few times the game replies with “are you serious” and then after that it kicks you out of the level.
Kind of surprised it lets you shoot a baby but not shoot your allies.

It should've erased the players entire progress on the campaign if they do that... As a punishment...

No sir, killed that character for his armor and he was necessary to the main quest? @@RageUnchained Yes and no, you can kill Vivec early and nab a dwemer peice of him you can take to the dwarf who creates wraithgaurd for you so you can complete the last mission. but most of the time yep.
@@theholyknight. Morrowind did not have story immune NPCs but this popped up if you killed story important people. The main quest was now impossible, but do what you want
As someone who depleted every single planet in ME2 expecting an achievement, take my advice: don't.
But the additional resources? The discoveries needed to boost the war effort come ME3? Conrad Verner's sidequest in ME3?!
@@michaelandreipalon359 I ended up with more resources than I could use. As for ME3, my copy was the *unlabelled* french-only xbox one, so no dice since I don’t speak french. Still debating spending $80 on the legendary edition since it’s the same price as ME3 + DLC bundle.

Admittedly, it's either enhanced graphics and some fixes vs. cost management and, of course, less frustrations. Take your pick.

Now I've got the bit where the Narrator from The Stanley Parable locks you in the Serious Room and is both mad and disappointed.
The best part of my brief stint with MLB 21: The Show was the announcer’s progression from surprise, to bafflement, to anger, to dejected resignation as I insisted on hitting every batter right in the face with the ball.
Another Hitman 3 one was from their 7 Deadly Sins: Pride DLC was if you push to her death the NPC at the start of the level, the voice over will judge for it. Better yet, if you restart, just to do it again, he will make further remarks.
So to recap in GTA V: Firing rockets at Michael's house--a firm but more polite than necessary request to stop it. Follow Michael (or the other protagonists) on foot for a block--instant murder.

What about Ratchet & Clank: Going Commando? You get increasingly threatening messages the more tourists you kill as they leave the bus on Todano.
Then they eventually send a robot to kill you, which I think counts as not disappointed, but outright angry.

There’s always the Metal Gears, where Mei Ling stops saving for you if you keep calling her, Rosemary shouts at you if you shoot the pigeons, and Major Zero shows disappointment if you kill The End before meeting him.

Knowing EDI’s sense of humor - which is probably her defining trait - I’d figure she enjoyed that joke too, but couldn’t express her opinion with those Cerberus shackles on her at the time.
The Tom Brady thing is because, if I’m not mistaken, he and his team were caught tampering with the inflation of the ball which affected how it could be thrown but the opposition was unaware.
They didnt actually do anything. The weather was extremely cold and while Brady is known to prefer his footballs inflated to the lower end of the legal spectrum so after a couple hours in the cold they naturally fell below (look up the ideal gas law) but the commisioner is a life long jets fan and decided once again to overstep because it was the patriots

@Greed1914 aren't the probes basically remote mining drills or something? I kinda figured it was a generic comment about it being a waste of perfectly good mining equipment.
@Mar Hawkman I remember reading a comic about how the probes don't automatically mine the resources, but rather act as markers for Cerberus to replenish the ores that they set aside for you to upgrade your weapons and ship (don't forget that Cerberus is INSANELY well-connected, so procuring such resources is a simple matter, but it's also not as if TIM is beyond being petty enough to force Shepard to pay for every resource he finds).
For me, the Space Quest games springs to mind, for example in Space Quest 1 if you press the wrong button in the space craft, you end up in the Dark Ages and are greeted with a message saying you have noone to blame but yourself.

I'd say the Police Quest games were more scolding compared to the outright mockery that King's/Space Quest dish out to you.
Great list, gang. Here’s a fun one if you do another list: HALO Reach, you get an achievement for murdering helpless birds on the first mission.
I think that'd count as angry. You drove them to extinction.
Likewise if Raiden decides to hunt seagulls in MGS2. The colonel and Rose are equally angry, disgusted, and just really disappointed.
@@Amaritudine In MGS1 you get an angry call if you shoot rats where you fight Sniper Wolf. Vulcan Raven also gets ticked off if you've killed any birds on the elevator.
Tom Brady and team deflated the oblong ball, for reasons sports people know, which was cheating, he and team also spied on other teams practices, also cheating.
i think it gave him better grip on the ball and made catching it easier but im a hockey fan not an american
Yeah from my understanding it was to help catch the ball better because you can squeeze it and hold onto it better. Leading to less dropped passes or fumbles. Straight cheating was "suspended" but then the NFL didn't uphold it.
@@mattgardiner744 I think it also made it harder to throw for people who weren’t aware of what was going on, since the physics got messed with.
The PSI on many of the footballs were lower than what is required by NFL regulations. It used to be the rule that the home team (the Patriots, in this case) provided the balls.

How about 'Most useless prison cells' in video games? So many seem to lock people in a room with a simple way out.
- RE2 remake puts Shelly in a room with a massive hole behind some cardboard
- Dishonored puts Corvo in a small tank with some wood on the top
- In ME2 Arrival, you get locked in a med lab, but are left with the controls to combat mechs
Etc.
Two more come to mind for me, both from Zelda. In WindWaker if you get caught in Forsaken Fortress, you can easily get out through a not so hidden hole. And in Twilight Princess, once Midna breaks your shackle all you have to do is dig your way out.

I HONESTLY didn't know you could bypass the Johnny Charisma lock by getting Batman frustrated enough to punch it. It was such an easy puzzle to figure out.

My Shepherd resisted the temptation of the Uranus, for the record. She spent ages scanning pretty much every other planet in the sodding galaxy, and thus basically broke ME3 by having ALL THE RESOURSES and starting at level 27, but she did not scan the Uranus.

@@michaelandreipalon359 I'm just about to start the endgame on 3, but I've had a perfect run so far - Kaidan died on Virmire, saved the Geth and the Quarians, romanced Liara in 1 and 3, nobody in 2, and I'm aiming for the Synthesis ending.

@@faerylnhiikira1053 She actually does, there are a few test chambers that you can break. If you do so, she scolds you for it, before unlocking the exit door for you.
That moment in Arkham Knight got me so many times. I’ve played the game 5 times, and it took me playing it recently to realize it was mirrored.

Hitman 2 tutorial level. You miss every shot on a camera, and when you finally hit it, "Nice shot."
The main thing that comes to my mind when I think about this title is Ninja Gaiden Black. If you choose easy mode in that game, the character Ayane mocks you on every turn as if she is your dissapointed dad.
Another game that comes to my mind is the visual novel Tsukihime. If you choose to un-heroic choices like abandoning Arcuied alone in the hotel and running away to save your life, the game gives you a bad ending and one of the characters Ciel, comes in her Teacher Ciel form and explains to you about how what you just did was so UNHEROIC.
One more game comes to my mind is MGS V. If you harm your crew in any shape or form, miller/ocelot will tell you in the game over screen that, "Maybe you are not the big boss we hoped you to be" or something.
Also, also, also, in Bushido blade if you attack your opponent before bowing then the game would be over and a message would appear on the screen, criticizing you for breaking the Bushido code.

What about the The Stanley Parable? That game is full of bits where the game's narrator is very disappointed with the player for doing something he and the game does not like.
Yeah but I almost feel like that doesn’t count, because 80% of the game is doing things the narrator doesn’t like, as opposed to an easter egg if you do something wildly off script

Oh, for a classic one, in the You Don't Know Jack games, if you typed in "F*** you" as the answer for a Gibberish Question, you'd get penalized by the game as well as a hilariously disappointed host criticizing your predictable behavior. In fact, do it enough times in a row, and the game would just quit on you.
In a slightly different take, if you were doing well enough at the game (either acing it in single-player mode or had a huge lead in multiplayer) and refused to ring in on a question, the host would be disappointed in how timid you were being. They'd ask the (fictional) audience, who would shout "Don't Be A Wimp!" and force you to answer. I guess disappointment has its consequences.
Happened to me when I was in the lead and it was insane. Genuinely smart programming

I'm thinking of Pokémon Platinum where, if you say no to Professor Rowan at the beginning, he stands there going "... ... ... ... ..." at you until you say yes. If memory serves he also says he can do this all day.
Remember how Fuuka catches you if you cheat in persona 3 and mitsuru says she'll "punish" you.
I got accused of cheating by the south park one for guessing kneel before Jesus in the church I didn't look it up though I just thought that best suited the sense of humour of the game.
Yeah, to be fair to the people who guessed the codes, "fuck you Mom" and "kneel before Jesus" both... kind of feel predictable in the game's world
At the beginning of Final Fantasy 9, you can troll your troupe leader by deliberately answering his question wrong. If you do it enough times, Ruby will burst into the room and scold you.
Notably, that requires you to give the wrong answer a whole 64 times before it happens. That takes some dedication.
Article idea: bit characters that you wished stayed around longer. My pick, Warlord Okeer from Mass Effect 2. Not only was he an awesome character with clever motivations, his voice was cool AF. I would have loved to have him and Thane on every mission.
Judge Magister Bergen from Final Fantasy XII would get my vote. He's a short-lived boss encounter from quite early in the game, but he has an incredible voice, an outstanding suit of armour, and a grandiose villain speech.
Love how Trevor is given his own personality, "Trevor"
If anyone’s wondering about the Tom Brady thing South Park referenced: Brady once purposefully overinflated a bunch of footballs to cheat (apparently it makes them easier to grip, which is why it counts as cheating).

Mike rocking those Dad vibes hard, and he’s only been at the game a couple of years.
Arkham Knight also had the ability to skip one of the Riddler challenges by hitting a button to lower a gate. Only downside is that you have to listen to Riddler gloating.
One to bring up is in mgs2, when you're raiden and shooting at the seagulls outside. You'll get called by the commander and your girlfriend
Don't forget FMV games from the 90's. They _loved_ having the actors call you out before you got a game over.
Fun fact:the duke was supposed to be one of the lords but the devs scrapped it
ICEY whenever you don’t do what the narrator wants. One of the things you can do (that unlocks an achievement) is standing there for 20 minutes in a hidden room in the sewers, where he starts making passive aggressive comments and goes from surprised, to annoyed, to angry and then to begging in that 20 minute time frame. It was glorious
I wasn't even thinking about that when I was probing Uranus. I just probed every planet I came across just in case it had one last decent deposit. When Edi responded with disappointment I didn't understand until she said "probing Uranus." Then I giggled.
I'll tell you what game was disappointed in my abilities or lack thereof. In the Eternal Night Sparx kept roasting me for dying repeatedly, I had to actually start taking his advice on using mana on these amazing draconic powers before I finally started making progress.
The games difficulty actually made the unlockable and absolutely broken bonus power more rewarding.

In the original Deus Ex, when you first enter UNATCO HQ the game is fine with you searching everywhere for any loot items... except the ladies toilet which is occupied at the time. Should you do so you get a very much "not angry, just disappointed" talking to from your boss.
And this continued (or rather happened before) in Human Revolution.

Hollow Knight's fight with Troupe Master Grimm comes to mind. If you attack him before he is finished bowing then he'll scream at you and go into his screen filling bullet hell attack.
Is it possible to beat him like that?
@@IamaPERSON it's possible to beat him still yeah. The attack is avoidable with some clever jumps and dashes. Just makes the start of the fight a bit more annoying.

@@IamaPERSON it's an attack that will always happen in every fight with Grimm. Happens at 75%, 50% and 25% health I think. But he gets angry if you don't show him some respect at the start of the fight, little detail that gives him more character.

In Elden Ring, you might run across a very large turtle with a pope hat, in the Church of Vows. You could attack him like you can most other NPCs. But unlike every other NPC in the game, he will brush it off and tell you "learn to master your emotions". You can feel just how much his disappointment fills his words as he uses it as a means to remind you that hurting NPCs is often a VERY bad decision in Soulsborne games.
In Detroit: Become human, there’s a part of the story where you can choose to save or kill off all of the main characters. If you choose to kill them, the game ends and the lady in the lobby screen will scold you for killing them.
Another good one from Mass Effect 3 is on Sur'Kesh and after repeatedly pressing a button next to a certain Salarian.

In Star Wars: Knights of the Old Republic, using Force Persuade to get more money from someone and having Bastila or Juhani in the party. They really weren't keen on me doing that and they made it clear to me every time I did it, and I did it at almost every opportunity. Except for that lady in Anchorhead. I only robbed her in my second (dark side) playthrough and I still carry that regret.
This gets all the more worse with Kreia come the sequel. Gotta say, she has a morbid point about the abuse of mind tricks.
...Yeah, another reason as to why I only do evil playthroughs for completionist's sake... and then there's that Ithorian rookie swoop racer back on Manaan. Never wanted to deprive him of his dreams and ambitions unless I had no choice.
@@michaelandreipalon359 she has a morbid point about almost everything you do. The entire time I was playing the game (both DS and LS sides) I felt like Kreia was here just to stop me from playing. Ironic that she says 'apathy is death' but pushes you towards it.

I would suggest Sly Cooper 1 & 2. (Sly Racoon for all you Brits.) There is a safe in every level and you need all the clue bottles to open the safe. But if you try to open it without all the clues Bentley would say you still need them all. Even if you cheated and got all the combinations online, the safe wouldn’t open.

I vaguely remember the GTAV characters reacting if you stole their cars, and I think you could put them in the hospital, but I wish I had known about the rockets, that's great and hilarious.
