I'm amazed to find that there is actually a video here on taking apart an old box spring. LOL! Earlier today, I was puttering around and thinking my bed is much too high for my tastes with the new deeper mattress and pillow top. So I shoved the mattress off and took the box spring out, thinking I would discard it right away. THEN ... I saw that there was some really good wood underneath and figured if I could take it all apart, I could use that wood and convert my bed into a platform bed -- of sorts. 🙂 I cut off all the fabric and then began to painstakingly remove all the U-nails that hold the springs in place. I started using a screwdriver to loosen them, then pincers to pull them out. Then my forearm got tired and achy, so I made myself a coffee. That's when I came to youtube to see if there might be an easier way to tackle this little DIY project. I'll get back to you once I finish watching, but just wanted to say "good on you" for thinking like me. Sisters are doin' it for themselves! Yay.

Hi thanks for watching. It was a lot of work and by the end I was pretty sick of it and wondering what I was thinking when I started 🙃 It is fun to have the springs to craft with though.

The white batting is cotton batting. The brown batting is either coconut fiber or sisal fiber. The wire holding the springs together, if you cut the ends loose. You can use a drill in reverse to unwind them, and you won't get all cut up from them and it saves time.

Thanks for the tips if I ever do this again I will have to remember to use the drill to unwind the corkscrew springs.

Note @10:14 when you were "twisting it out" there is a loop at the end of the spring: If you cut off the far end (to video left) of that spring, you can use a handy-drill to un-wind the entire 6 foot spring from the (Video right) end. Twisting all of those springs via the loop is how these springs were/are made in the first place. Thanks for the video, liked and subscribed!

I actually picked up my second one of these yesterday and another one is being held for me in the next town over. Thankfully mine are all already stripped down to the wire. Now i need to figure out what to do with them!!

Hi nice to meet you. Thanks for watching. I have had fun creating a few different projects with all the springs but I still have quite a few left. You gotta keep the good junk. Right? 🙂

Use aviation snips to cut the attachment points.

También se me ocurre que la tela de yute se puede aprovechar para mojar en cemento y hacer macetas grandes.

I just came across your video. I love doing craft projects. You did a great job taking the box spring apart! I wondered how that was done. Do you still have springs left? I saw some cute craft ideas for them on the internet

Hi Janine, thanks for watching. I have made quite a few projects with the springs. But I do have some springs left cuz there are a whole lot of them in one box spring. 🙂🙂🙂
