During the Kumbha I had a little interaction with a number of sadhus who came down from the hill regions only during the kumbhas. Rest of the year they interacted very little with the outside world and remained isolated in the hills. They were least interested in recruiting disciples. They are the true sadhus of our religion. A true sadhu doesn't look for disciples. They teach not by preaching or giving tall talks but through their own examples. A true sadhu is not a businessman or a social worker. Nothing wrong in doing business or social service. But you should not bring religion or spirituality into it. You can do that by secular means. Sadhguru and people like him use religion and spirituality for business and profit. By doing that they degrade the values of both commerce and religion.

My room rent was 1000 per day with 2 meals. There are options for cheaper rooms and dormitories for much less if you want to opt that. But the food is same for everybody.

Did you know Rama Krishna paramahamsa used to be obsessed with food? He loved eating a variety of food and many times used to pester his wife to cook some speciality. When asked how he is a sadhu and still has craving he replied that, this is my last and final connection with this earth. The day I stop craving for food would be the last day of my journey on earth.and surprise surprise, one day he didn’t ask her when food would be served to his wife. And he died the exact same day. So let’s not fight over a moulded version of how a sadhu should be. To add how to select a guru.. Select a guru who comes from guru parampara then your knowledge is authentic. Guru cannot be manufactured. To become guru, his guru should accept his disciple. Vedic knowledge should be as it is. Cannot be on our own logics. 1+1=2 cannot be 3 or 4. Vedic knowledge comes from Krishna/Vishnu to Brahma to Narada to Vyasadeva to Acharyas and so on. There are 4 parampara as per the shastra. They include the Sanaka-sampradaya (also known as Nimbarkas, the followers of Nimbarka), the Shri-sampradaya (or Shrivaishnavas, following the teaching of Ramanuja), the Brahma-sampradaya (or Madhvas, the followers of Madhva), and the Rudra-sampradaya (or Vishnusvamins, the followers of Vishnusvamin). Find out whether your guru comes from the above Sampradaya and then select your guru. If the Guru is self proclaimed then reject such Guru’s.. Why Teaching is different. Shastra should be as it is and we can’t create on our own philosophy. Knowledge is already given by God through his disciples and same knowledge should be as it is and we can’t modify. But Isha meditation is unique n different and not be found elsewhere. Why so. Moreover in Bhagavad Gita supreme lord Krishna himself explains all types of yoga and what one should practice. So Nothing can be beyond Gita right. Gita is the summary of Veda/summary of 108 upanishads/voice of god. Sadhguru may be doing good for the society but teachings are not recommended if it’s not aligned with the Vedic principles. There is no harm in practicing his unique techniques but you’ll not ye get the complete benefit what you suppose to get when it’s away from scriptures. Anyways you’ll get some benefits since it’s copied from vedas but not recommended unless it is “as it is”. If we don’t teach the Vedic teachings as it is then it’s an offence as per the Vedic principles.

What he sells as inner engineering is an old practiced method. Shambhavi mahamudra is a Patanjali technique and works well. If you think guy is fraud that he says it's his own method, it's kinda true but what he sells as inner engineering is a legit yoga kriya.

Did you know Rama Krishna paramahamsa used to be obsessed with food? He loved eating a variety of food and many times used to pester his wife to cook some speciality.
When asked how he is a sadhu and still has craving he replied that, this is my last and final connection with this earth. The day I stop craving for food would be the last day of my journey on earth.and surprise surprise, one day he didn’t ask her when food would be served to his wife.
And he died the exact same day.
So let’s not fight over a moulded version of how a sadhu should be.

To add how to select a guru.. Select a guru who comes from guru parampara then your knowledge is authentic. Guru cannot be manufactured. To become guru, his guru should accept his disciple. Vedic knowledge should be as it is. Cannot be on our own logics. 1+1=2 cannot be 3 or 4. Vedic knowledge comes from Krishna/Vishnu to Brahma to Narada to Vyasadeva to Acharyas and so on. There are 4 parampara as per the shastra. They include the Sanaka-sampradaya (also known as Nimbarkas, the followers of Nimbarka), the Shri-sampradaya (or Shrivaishnavas, following the teaching of Ramanuja), the Brahma-sampradaya (or Madhvas, the followers of Madhva), and the Rudra-sampradaya (or Vishnusvamins, the followers of Vishnusvamin).
Find out whether your guru comes from the above Sampradaya and then select your guru. If the Guru is self proclaimed then reject such Guru’s.. Why Teaching is different. Shastra should be as it is and we can’t create on our own philosophy. Knowledge is already given by God through his disciples and same knowledge should be as it is and we can’t modify. But Isha meditation is unique n different and not be found elsewhere. Why so. Moreover in Bhagavad Gita supreme lord Krishna himself explains all types of yoga and what one should practice. So Nothing can be beyond Gita right. Gita is the summary of Veda/summary of 108 upanishads/voice of god.
Sadhguru may be doing good for the society but teachings are not recommended if it’s not aligned with the Vedic principles. There is no harm in practicing his unique techniques but you’ll not ye get the complete benefit what you suppose to get when it’s away from scriptures. Anyways you’ll get some benefits since it’s copied from vedas but not recommended unless it is “as it is”. If we don’t teach the Vedic teachings as it is then it’s an offence as per the Vedic principles.
