I had so much fun seeing your reaction vs the real and sincere reaction of your wife :) cheers from Costa Rica to both of you.
I loved the "don't hate me". At the end is her reaction and is natural and is perfect. In reallity not all people is ready for metal and to listen to gurtural bro is other thing. And is perfect that she share with us that part..... But at the end her face reaction is what we search in youtube searching for this kind of videos.
You need to hear from Jinjer the one take vocal performance, so you can see actually how she changes her position and the movement of her shoulders and her chest. The name in TH-cam is JINJER - Judgement (& Punishment) - Tatiana Shmayluk - One Take Vocal Performance.
In other recomendations I feel that your wife can react to Nightwish, is a great band with a good vocal. The name in youtube is Nightwish - Ghost Love Score (WACKEN 2013)

The song is about her struggle with depression. She compares her bouts of depression to the lifecycle of a perennial flower. The flower withers in winter and lies trapped in coma under ice, but it's not dead, because come spring time it rises to bloom again.

I love Tatiana's growls! I introduced them to my husband, he's an old metalhead, you know, Metallica, Iron Maiden, Slayer. Now, we both enjoy the complexity of their music. The band's a beast, that drummer lives in polyrhythms.

This song is speaking mostly about the seasonal changes. Going from spring/summer into autumn/winter with the “death” of plant life, only to be “reborn” the following year. Additionally, Tatiana has mixed in undertones of her on suffering with seasonal depression. This begins with the spoken part at the beginning “This Autumn feels like a funeral to me”. Even before that, when addressing the crowd she said “With the next song, we must say goodbye to you. Well, rather not goodbye, but see you next time.” Tatiana’s lyrics are always very meaningful.

A Perennial is a type of flower (like a rose) that seems to die in the winter but blooms again in the spring. It is a song of rebirth.

    • @dbell582
      @dbell582 3 ปีที่แล้ว +2

Exactly. This song gets taken out of context so much because people don’t know what a perennial is. Pisces seems to be a tough word too. I hear pieces, peecees (whatever that is) and other assorted versions of the word. Thankfully this man is a Pisces and got it although at the time he did the reaction, I’m not sure he understood the dichotomy and the usage of growls vs. cleans in the song.

I'm a huge metal fan, been a fan of Jinjer for around 2 years now. Was supposed to see them live in concert, on my birthday as well, before the whole Covid situation started and they had to cancel it. But anyway my wife is not really a metal fan. But she appreciates Tatiana's skill so much that she is going with me on Dec 5th to see them live in New Orleans. Also have VIP passes so we get to meet the band before the show at a meet and greet.

Same. I saw them in Iowa the day Macro was released, and it was an amazing show. I regretted not buying VIP’s. So on the 4th, I have VIP’s for me and my 18yo son. I can’t wait.
Also, you cannot go wrong with any of their music; this rabbit hole is deep. Perennial on an angry playlist? LOL. Perennial almost always makes me tear up. I could be here for hours talking Jinjer, so instead, “which song should I do next?” Me: “Yes. All the songs.” Lol

She was a great sport. She's not afraid to be honest. My wife can't handle the growls either. Nor did I in the beginning, but the band is so incredible, heavy and interesting that I tolerated the growling. Now I get it. Tatiana has incredible range in her growls and singing, and it fits perfectly with the the music!

  • @Dark__Thoughts
    @Dark__Thoughts 3 ปีที่แล้ว +52

You did it a couple times towards the end, but I'd suggest to generally tap the arrow key to skip back a little after pausing, as it's very easy to miss certain transitions when you pause right inside of them.
The song is about the seasonal process of nature, of plants "dying" during fall & winter, to then be "reborn" again in spring. But it also has a double meaning in regards to seasonal depression, which Tatiana is suffering from. During live shows like this one she does change the lyrics up a bit, as it usually repeats "no we're not dead" a second time, but she directly addresses the crowd there by saying "no you're not dead" on the second one.
Cute wife though, she seems nice. If she's more the introvert type then she might like their song Wallflower, which is one of their softest and pretty much an introvert anthem, as Tatiana is a self proclaimed introvert.
Bit more background for the band: They're from the occupied zone in eastern Ukraine and fled when the war came to them, in order to continue to make music. They've been pretty much on tour constantly, just to make ends meet. In the couple years before covid they had a few hundred shows alone, but obviously before Pisces went viral they were basically nobodies and just performing in small venues. This was their first time at Wacken, which is one of the biggest metal festivals in the world and a big step in their career. So generally they have lots of stage experience, and Tatiana herself has an incredible stage presence, making it very entertaining to watch.

In 2019, I had the pleasure of seeing Jinjer in a small venue (450 limit), and they brought so much energy and passion to their performance. The whole experience was electric, and Tatiana is even more amazing live - great stage presence, great interaction. The band was spot on. So much energy in such a small space - everyone in the crowd there just to see them, it was one of the best shows I've ever been to.

Hahaha, nice reaction, your wife was being a good sport watching Jinjer. You're right, Jinjer is a phenomenal band live, I'm actually going to my first Jinjer concert in 2 weeks, got the meet and greet tickets too, so I'm really excited to say the least. This song Perennial has to do with season changes. Tati doesn't really care for Fall/Winter, but feels "alive" again when Spring comes around. If your wife is willing to do another Jinjer reaction, I'm gonna suggest reacting to their newest release which is Wallflower (OMV) or I Speak Astronomy (OMV). Both are fantastic and have more of Tati's beautiful clean singing voice, and minimal growls. I think both of you will really enjoy those songs. Peace and as always, stay Metal. 😊🤘🤘🤘🤘🤘🎶🎶🎶🎶

It's how we respond to it that shows our character, which our country hasn't shown a lot of, unfortunately. This a way of expressing something we're not a fan of without putting it down, and understanding why it's to be appreciated. Bravo Ali, bravo.

My wife and I were lucky enough to see them in 2019 with less than 100 other people. Those days are long gone, lol. They play to a small room just like the huge festivals. In my opinion there is not another band who is as versatile and skilled at every level than Jinjer right now. Be sure to check out "Judgement and Punishment" one take, "Teacher, Teacher" and "Home Back" which deals with the war in Ukraine. They skillfully mash up genres and grooves. Loved your wife's reaction too! Not everyone likes the same thing and am always happy to hear everyone's opinion even if it's different than mine. Lastly Tatiana writes her lyrics in Russian 1st than translates them to English. Makes it even more incredible how good her writing truly is. Great video. Hope to see more

  • @j.f.fisher5318
    @j.f.fisher5318 3 ปีที่แล้ว +5

A lot of Tatiana's lyrics have environmental themes. This one is more personal. She struggles with chronic depression and it gets worse in the winter, from the lyrics it sounds like it might have been more the sense of watching the world seem to die than just a matter of less sunlight. But anyway, she wrote this as a reminder to herself that the spring would come again and she could make it through til then. The first verse is a poetic description of the biochemistry that takes place in a tree in the fall, causing the leaves to change colors (how spectacular she is) while storing the nutrients and energy in the roots (death throes are crawling to her toes as the last leaf is falling from her head). Whatever is next for Jinjer on your list is going to be fire, I'd suggest Teacher Teacher official which is beloved.
Some metal suggestions for your wife: Nightwish's Ghost Love Score official live (there are 2, the one with more views is preferred by their fans a.k.a. live at Wacken but the title doesn't say that), Beast In Black's Blind and Frozen (incidentally the singer Yannis Papadopoulos has also done a cover of Let It Go from Frozen and of Ghost Love Score which are both great, though I like Let It Go more). Spiritbox's Constance. Also, Spiritbox's Holy Roller - no! that's bad, don't have her listen to that one hahaha.

Start with the song Runnawy she wrote at the age of 11 and performed at the 2015 Nobel Peace Prize concert. She is as unique and talented an artist as you are going to find today. Cloud factory is the song that got me into them but I HIGHLY recommend watching videos for who is gonna be the one (live) to see the bands technical talents as well as tatis energy into her music and then the one take studio recording for judgment and punishment! I love watching these reaction videos because i love showing people this band. Vlad(the drummer) roman(guitarist) eugene(bassist) and then of course tati all are exceptionally talented individuals and deserve the fame they’re getting. Perennial plants "die off" (coma) in winter and come back to life in the spring. Much like in Pisces where she takes the zodiac sign Pisces AKA 2 fish, yin yang, opposing yet complimenting sides of one and creates this great story around this theme, here we have the plant life cycle.

Jinjer delivers a world class metal live shows.
The band is tight and superprofessional.
Tatiana has one of the best stage presence at the metal scene. She's very gifted singer but even more she's gifted as performer IMO. She's not just singing, she's acting. In most cases Tatiana sing her own lyrics (rarely it's the lyrics from their bassist Eugene). I guess it helps her to perform because she can feel what she's singing.
So if you have a taste to great metal shows - I'd highly recomend you to visit their concert. In other case if you (or your wife) are not prepared for pure metal show - well... I'd recomend you to visit Jinjer concert again :) Because they are just really great live performers. But probably non-metal fan wouldn't handle it. Pisces and Perennial are couple of the less heavy songs from Jinjer's playlist (and they don't perform Pisces at the moment). Most of Jinjer songs are heavier and much heavier.

I have been at two jinjer concerts now and i can confirm that they are incredibly tight on beat and they are working on a level of perfectionism that i don't see in alot of other bands.
Those musicians are doing a very unique thing and they have mastered it.
Some very good songs you could listen to are:
    1. Home back (lyrics are amazing when you know where they come from)
    2. Pit of consciousness (very artistic video)
    3. Sit stay roll over (very hard song)
    4. Judgement & punishment one take vocal performance (reggae mixed with metal and again incredibly well written lyrics)
    5. Who is gonna be the one live ( one of the songs where she hits a very low note)
If you want to hear them do a full jazz song you can listen to Baggers Dance but i wouldn't recommend making a video because i have never seen a reaction video to it so i would assume people are not interested in it even though i would say it is one of their most underrated songs.
Greetings from austria, have a great day!

In fact, for this song... the live version is so much better than the studio one... hahaa... great reaction dudes!!! It's been really fun to watch!

She's talking about the life cycle of perennial plants, take for instance hibiscus. Dies down to the ground and comes back bigger and stronger. Must remember that Tatiana suffers from seasonal depression each winter. (yes that's a disorder)

The first time I heard Jinjer was in February this year (-21). Have never liked growl and will never do so either. However - Jinjer live in Melbourne gave me a different view of how growl is used so it becomes a special part of a song.
Extremely skilled musicians and Tati how she is the songs and not just sing them.
I spent an entire weekend just watching live gigs, studio interviews and stuff and reaction videos.
I have cried so much for both Pisces (studio) and Perennial
(WOA-19) because they are so skillfully and beautifully made.
I fell in love with Tati for how she is as a singer and how everyone in Jinjer is skilled. They play in their own division.
But this is the fascination with a genre like this, that if you hear the right songs for the first time, you become a die-hard fan right away. But if you hear "wrong" songs, you do not care. I'm quite sure if I had heard Vortex and Mediator (from Wallflowers) first, I would not have cared. Now I listen to that record with completely different ears.
Speaking of Pisces, that video was made to introduce the new drummer - Vlad.
When Tati sings in falsetto at the end, she has removed that bit when she sings live, She growls it instead. She has explained that her voice is destroyed if she sings it in falsetto when live gigs are so close together.
Perennial studio, at the end she has a double layer on the transition to growl and the last notes of "coma". She chooses growl or sings there live, because she can not sing twice. But for 10 seconds she keeps 100% clear voice going down in tones step by step. And in a very tired state. Fantastic.
Vlad - classically trained pianist and also cruel on electric guitar.
The three first make the music and then Tati writes the lyrics.
4 geniuses in the same band.
Please right me if I´m wrong with some of the facts.
Take care, all :) Greetings from Thomas, Sweden.

What some people don't get about a Jinjer song is that the growls are telling part of the story, or changing the perspective or the emotion of the lyrics. If Tatiana growls, there is a reason. You almost guessed that in your commentary. Your wife is adorable, and would love to see more video's in this format, maybe some Symphonic Metal by Nightwish "Story Time" or Sabaton "Night Witches" animated video or "Swedish Pagans" live at Waken with guest Tina Guo. Cheers

Don't lose hope. Elizabeth Zharoff is a professional opera singer and the host of Charismatic Voice. She didn't like metal either. And then she did a reaction video to Jinjer and to Devin Townsend. Devin really blew her mind. She is now a metal fan and even attended Bloodstock earlier this year. She now cites Ronnie James Dio (Black Sabbath) as her favorite vocalist. Show your wife "Devin Townsend Performs Kingdom for EMGTV"

Fun reaction brother. I agree with Dark Thoughts that you should rewind a bit after pausing because Jinjer transitions like no other, and it's very easy to miss them if you're not careful. I recommend their official video for "Vortex" next. My son (now 12) and I have seen them once in Seattle, and did the meet n' greet. A bunch of sweethearts they are. We'll be seeing them again in 15 days in Vegas. Super pumped. Keep it going man!

Your wife did well, for not being a fan of metal.
Jinjer are a great band, they are:
    Tatiana on Vocals,
    Roman on Guitar,
    Eugene is the Bassist,
    Vlad is on Drums.
    They're from the Ukraine.
You really must watch 'Teacher Teacher' the official video,
another I recommend of theirs is, 'Judgement (and Punishment), Tatiana's one-take vocal version.
This group have just a great back catalogue but these two are great ones to listen to next by them. 🙂

You also have to understand that English isn't her first language but she writes her lyrics in English so her translation can sometimes be a little confusing.
Edit: I was so happy to see you discover the wonder that is Jinjer. I love your Karl reactions, been a fan of Ricky and Karl for around 8 years. But I was so excited to see the thumbnail for your Pisces reaction in my suggested videos. Keep up the great reactions, tell your wife she did great by the way a lot of people don't have the courage to even record a video they know thousands of people are going to see.

Sebs, thank you for what you do. I found your channel because I love Norm Macdonald. His comedy may not be for everyone but I'm here for it. Too many folks are too easily offended by everything these days. PC cancel culture has reached a disgusting new low. (If you can't laugh at yourself, you're not going to like it when I do it.) I also hope you will bravely consider reacting to some great Dave Chappelle comedy. This alphabet, POC with a sense of humor is on Team Dave. Bless you and your beautiful family. You are an inspiration to others. Also, thank you for introducing me to the great and fascinating Karl Pilkington.

I never understand people who are so strict with music taste. Like they cant listen to something. I never had this, I can listen everything even music that I don't personally like still if it professionally produced it is art and worth every second.

    Two small things:
    1- Wacken is pronounced [va:hen]
2- Please remove the Screamo hastag from the title and the description. Screamo is a music genre. You can tag it as screaming, growling, harsh vocals but definitely not screamo.
