Does that mute open strings (you can’t play open strings)?
In this case he's just using to eliminate some extra buzzing, you can see that he is still plucking the lowest two strings open quite often

I'm gonna say it, better than Mayer's version
I really like the melodic variation on the pre-chorus
I mean Mayer's like the best rhythm guitarist I know but Gabe is really good- especially considering it's not in studio. and yeah Mayer accent is borderline incomprehensible lol. mostly I like this version cause the pre chorus melody makes more sense to me than Mayer's
Gabe has a better voice but that's not really what Mayer is about, he's an amazing artist. There's many people out there with great voices but not many people who can create songs like Mayer.
yeah of course I'm not comparing their song-writing, although I will say Gabe does have a few gems
