man, you are such a great musician and the craftmanship is quite impressive. The Romanian Caval si slightly different in shape and sound though... Although I really love the sound of all of your romanian style cavals, it sounds a quite a bit different than the romanian traditional one. Also, it looks like your cavals are usually a bit thicker than what I see in traditional cavals here in RO. they look and sound fantastic but the sound is not the mioritic one in my opinion. keep up the awesome work!

Thanks, my goal is not to copy tradition and what already exists, I learn from it and then go my way with it/ Cheers!

I have a turkish Ney that produces A with all holes closed so I easily followed your video. I noticed that your caval with only two upper holes closed produces the same as a Ney with only 1 upper hole closed. Closing all the holes produces the same A. It seems the upper 3 holes of the caval are 1 semitone higher that the turkish/arab ney.

Hah yes that is correct. The hybrid kavals I make have added holes to the Romanian trad. scale. This means I have added a bottom hole, this makes the first 3 the same as ney. The top 3 are as you discribe or you could also say the bottom hole of the top 3 moved over the next two ( of the ney scale) This makes the hybrid kaval only has the top hole different then the ney. Thumbhole is the same as ney or one half step lower, as the customer demands. :)

    Super, Winne!

Dear Winne, Thank you for these videos, great job! If I am right, with your 7 hole kaval using only the 5 holes you can play these pithces: A3 B3 C4 D4# E4 F4 A4 B4 C5 D5# E5 F5# G5 A5 A5# B5; Please let me know what the case is if you use the additional 2 holes. Probably it will start like this: A3 B3 C4 D4b D4# E4 F4 G4b .... but how to continue? Thanks a lot!
