Very impressive symphony. Tchaikovsky was so creative musically and Karajan is listened to this day as someone who completed a full set of 6 symphonies. This is a heavy sound, powerful, resonating, laboured through.
Kraftvoll und dynamisch!!! Welch eine Kraft!!! Welch eine Dynamik!!! Und zugleich FRIEDLICH!!! Unruhe und Friede zugleich! Dynamischer Frieden?☺️ Ein MEISTERWERK der Komposition und der Interpretation!!!!!
Love the sound of the brass. Perhaps I'm partial to this recording because I was a trumpet player. But the brass section on this recording is electrifying.
You have to keep in mind that Tchaikovsky's own orchestration is already electrifying. Karajan didn't have to raise the voltage much to achieve this great brass performance.
@@aguador67 Yes, the orchestration gives great opportunities to the brass section. But not every recording - even by good orchestras - matches this one for brilliance. I have a recording with Solti/Chicago (as good a brass section as Berlin) but it doesn't compare with this one.
@@natanbridge I could agree. Some performances, for example Mravinsky/Leningrad, imho, lack certain "nerve" in comparison with Karajan's. And I think this is a music which must be performed with "nerve". Maybe we need to put in the situation in which Tchaikovsky composed this symphony (1877): after a failed attempt of marriage to cover his homosexuality, a nervous breakdown... You can't play this music as if you were having your five o'clock tea :S
@@erinbiggs186 This recording was preceded by a fantastic version in the late 50s with the Philharmonia orchestra which was even better and enthralling even in Mono. I searched it here without success. This was the period before Karajan had joined the star system and all its flaws.
This is the superior recording to the DG ones. The glazed over feeling I get from them like a Krispy Kreme donut is not appealing. This has warts and flaws, but it's WAY better acoustically and artistically from Karajan.
I think it was the late English comedian Alfred Marks who described classical music as either being ‘boom-zoom’ or ‘mini-mini’. The finale of the 4th movement here under Karajan (with unique bass drum and cymbals on the very last beat in this recording) surely must conform to the epitome of ‘boom-zoom’...!
I couldn't get past the poor piccolo playing at 31:30. I remember it well from the lp days. On that basis alone I would have to choose anyone of Karajan DG versions over this one (EMI). The resonance of the church is a bit much as well. Rather boomy.
Origins of music unevidenced. Except it is gift to humanity from God the Creator. Music continues in heaven. Discontinues in hell. Jesus Christ came from heaven to earth for one purpose only - to die on cross for remissions of pre-existing sins of every single person and to resurrect. Jesus Christ providing forgiveness from pre-existing sins for every single person, salvation from eternity in hell and free entry to eternity in heaven for all who repent of sins in Jesus Christ. Other side of death is eternity. Eternity in hell. Or eternity in heaven through Jesus Christ. Penalty of pre-existing sins already paid by Jesus Christ on The Cross. Accept HIM. Be saved from eternal in hell. Enter heaven. Enjoy heavenly music. For free.
GTFOH!! go back to listen to your pop 💩 then,..although you are entitled to your opinion yes, but I rather take this subliomusic anytime over anything else.
Merveilleuse interprétation de Karajan, très doué pour Tchaikovsky
All the performances conducted by karajan is universal, and off the charts
Und der Humor kommt auch nicht zu kurz!!! Herrlich!!! Danke Danke Danke!!!

Ein MEISTERWERK der Komposition und der Interpretation!!!!!
Powerful and majestic Peter Iliad T by the one and only maestro Herbert Von Karajan, timeless incomparable.
Wonderful interpretation!

18:48 2nd Mvnt.
28:50 3rd
34:12 4th
this version is perfect tchaikovsky sym. 4. 1st Movement finale is very important. 1971 Karajan Berlin Phil EMI is excellent choice!!
O Senhor da regência! Inesquecível! Uma lenda musical!
22:02 - 22:30 incredibly beautiful!
Great music fortifies the soul
Excellent! Awesome last movement on EMI with superb sound.
FIRST TIME I HEARD IT. Sure the next time i will feel it more intense.
JOSE LUIS Orellana ah I remember that moment too

The best
VIBRANTE Y HERMOSA
This is the DEFINITIVE Tchaikovsky Fourth recorded at the Jesus Christus-Kirche in Berlin.

I think abbado still has the best interpetation of this symphony

like
この時代のベルリンフィルはカラヤンの楽団としては最強だったと思う。
39:08 for "Fate"
Karajan is very good , but Mravinsky is the best of best!
(this is my personal opinion)
I buy your opinion. but a lot of korean is Muravinsky fan. and just one.
Today Mravinsky is largely supplanted by the 2010 performances live in Paris by Gergiev and his orchestra. To possess the dvds is a must.
12:26
From which year is this recording?
1971
7:54 Timpani, Mistake!!
Que orquesta es ??
