What is the insulin resistance diet? On this episode, Robby and Cyrus lay out the most practical details. Find out why the insulin resistance diet has to be low in fat, plant-based and whole food.
While you don't have to be diagnosed with diabetes to be insulin resistant, it's a threatening condition. So the team also answers some common questions about insulin resistance you probably already heard before (that's okay because it only means IR affects tons of individuals and we need to talk about it constantly). And lastly, they walk you through the roadmap on how to reverse insulin resistance using your food as medicine!
So, if you're looking for that healthy diet that still leaves you room to indulge when you want, this is it.
But you probably have concerns. What about protein? Or, what about olive oil? Don't carbohydrates spike my blood sugar levels? How about the famous keto diet?
Well, you're about to find out with some good science that Robby and Cyrus have prepared for you.

This way of eating works - but it takes time. My A1C went from 8 to 5.1 in about a year. I did little exercise - a walk each day for 20-30 minutes. My edema went away, my eyesight got better, my muscles pain at night disappeared. I eat potatoes, broccoli, beans, berries, rice, etc. I am definitely better off now.

With nutbutters I battle to get to 2000 calories a day. I just can't see how I will get to even 1000 calories eating those foods. Probably will bloat me, and be hungry all the time

@@contrarian717 I used to pack a huge bag of veggies and fruits for the long commute home. I was so full from the commute home at 4 pm, I wouldn't eat until the next morning. This way will keep you full and satisfied. But we are use to the heavier foods of the SAD diet so that takes some getting used to...Heavy foods during the meal like meats and cheeses don't keep you feeling full longer but it makes us feel more full at the time of eating. The fruits, veggies, beans and grains are a different king of full but they do maintain that fullness for awhile.

If you have type 2. Document everything you eat. Get a glucose meter. Check post meal readings. One diet does not fit all. You must test and see what works for you. Hi fat, low fat, no carbs, minimal carbs. You must learn your own body. Start by not changing your diet. Then start eliminating different foods. For me it was sugar and carbs. Garlic, cinnamon and exercise had the most profound effects on my glucose readings. For me butter, eggs and meat protein worked best. Cheese is ok too. Take your readings and adjust your diet accordingly.

Bit disingenuous to say insulin resistance went up because we started to eat less veggies. I think the real reason insulin resistance went up was due to ultra processed foods being widespread. Eat what works for you as long as it's not processed, and go organic and or grass fed depending if you are going vegan or Keto / Carnivore

So how what is a safe glucose level RISE after eating these Whole Foods? I will say, my sugars go up when I eat these carbs, but it does come down fairly quickly.

Once I get some, I feel much better. Every body is different so paying attention to how it’s reacting to food is a good way to see what works for you.

    This is an awesome channel.
For some reason my body cannot handle meats and processed foods, either I'm very constipated (this has been gojng on since I was 11 years old, and I'm 36 now) or I feel very sleepy, headaches, elevated blood pressures and elevated liver enzymes when I get my blood work done.
I lose weight very quick eating plant based.
I stopped the alcohol years ago and just went plant based, and I feel so much better. Seriously.
Occasionally I might have eggs or salmon, but for the most part, I drink smoothies with my children, I eat plant based carbs (cut potatoes and make them taste like fries), vegetables, fruits, and sprouted grain breads (Ezekiel bread) because I do still enjoy peanut butter sandwiches (now Im ready to make my own peanut butter too, no preservatives) and I will have a brand type of cereal and banana or oatmeal with the whole eggs.
I may eat meat (only beef) for occasions, summer firework holidays, birthdays, and new years but thats it.
I cant go back especially with my immediate family history of heart attacks, high blood pressure, diabetes, and high cholesterol.

I am not convinced that dietary fat accumulates in the cells, since dietary fat is normally broken down by the digestive system or excreted.Instead, I believe it is usually the fat made by the body in response to excess calories, and this body made fat (not dietary fat) gets stored inside the cells.

I've tried eating a whole foods plant based diet for going on 3 years now. I try to eat only healthy whole food carbs - fruits, vegetables, grains and legumes. The soy milk I use does have some added sugar. It's hard to find anything else in my area. I was pre-diabetic and had rather high cholesterol previously, when I was on a vegetarian diet, but consuming dairy, especially a fair amount of cheese. Now my numbers are good - blood sugar and cholesterol are normal. I usually eat rather large meals, twice per day, but I feel like I'm starving within a couple of hours after eating. Usually I feel like I have to try something different after a day or two and end up binging on some kind of fat, especially peanut butter, or maybe, but not often, I'll eat some fish or yogurt or something heavy. That seems to help sometimes, and then I'll go back to eating the high carb wfpb diet. I'll get tired and weak and then the binging happens again, What should I do? The diet doesn't seem to be working very well for me. Does the added sugar (6 grams per serving) in the soy milk matter much? Does any one have any suggestions? Thanks.

Low fat is the road to accelerated aging. Look at Dean Ornish. The studies that implicate fat intake for insulin resistance were using crap fats-soy and hydrogenated coconut oils.
The conventional wisdom here is right, high carb diets lead to high sugar, high insulin, then insulin resistance. Carb (read sugar) reduction reverses it. Tried and true and repeated over and over.
That having been said, a whole food diet of any macro ratio will beat a crap food diet every time.

    • @pambbrown

Fat has the least impact on insulin. Carbs the most, protein has slight impact, but fat the least! Tune in to the brilliant Dr. Jason Fung, Dr. Annette Bosworth, I read the book the Obesity Code. All the graphs show fat causes the least amount of insulin.

    • @karlwheatley1244
      @karlwheatley1244 10 หลายเดือนก่อน +2

@@pambbrown "Fat has the least impact on insulin. Carbs the most, protein has slight impact, but fat the least! " It's impossible to study the macronutrients in isolation and draw any meaningful conclusions. You have to study the effects of whole diets. Diets high in fat impair the body's ability to process large quantities of carbs normally, so when people do eat what is a normal quantity of carbs, the insulin resistance created by eating lots of fat makes it so the body can't process that glucose normally so more insulin is released.

Question: Most of my food comes from the blender for various reasons.
Does that reduce the value of the whole foods? And, I have been using a lot of mostly organic, frozen fruit and veggies. The produce on the shelves has been handled by quite a few people including customers, and I wouldn't feel safe eating it without a dilute bleach soak (we did that in Italy because of hepatitis). Would vinegar serve the same purpose? We soaked the produce for a half an hour.

If you have severe insulin resistance or struggle with fluctuating blood glucose, we recommend earning your ability to eat fruits high on the glycemic index by eating a diet containing as much low glycemic plant material as possible for a few weeks first.
Once you have gained a significant amount of insulin sensitivity, then begin increasing your intake of higher glycemic fruits and your blood glucose is unlikely to spike in the post-meal state.

I find that what gets my weight up is some more whole wheat pasta and whole wheat bread and it can't hurt to have some nuts but don't push the fat % of diet too high. Also, something that can be very useful is tracking calories with cronometer when wanting to gain or lose weight. Weigh the foods and track accurately and you may see you aren't getting enough calories.

If I eat bananas, potatoes, quinoa, beans, rice etc 45 minutes later I literally black out and it comes in waves and lasts for 3-4 hours. These foods spike my insuline and I become hypoglycemic. I can eat low carb veggies like cauliflowers, brusselsprouts, broccoli or fermented vegetables without any problem. But I have to consume protein, like cheese or some fat like peanutbutter to slow down the absobrtion of fructose if I want to eat fruits. Proteins and fat don't cause me any metabolic issues. So based on my experience I have to disagree with your recommendation.
