This video was amazing! I start on April 9th as a Hiring Hall Installer Meter Reader position out of Fresno and been trying to do research on how to prepared for the upcoming day. I did have some questions about the boots or shoes that you prefer? Would you be able to make a recommendation of your preference?

Hey Benjamin. We were required to wear a boot that was above the ankle and had a sole that could not be penetrated by nails. It's been ten years since i read but they cost around $80-90 a pair..also had to waterproof. In 1970 when i started we all wore sneakers. So we have come a long way safety wise..

So here's a question for you: in a neighborhood that all of the meters are fairly close together and no challenges/access problems, how many meters can you read in an hour?

It all depends. If I read an apt complex with 50 elec meters in a bank I’d knock them all out in under two mins. Some routes had 1000 meters and I’d be done in 6 hours. Other routes 200 meters ( homes spaced farther apart ) and that would take longer. With smart meters installed the same 200 meters would be down to let’s say 15 meters but would take maybe an hour and a half because you’re in and out of your vehicle. Complete change once smart meters came about. Less dig bites. Less strains and sprains. A much better overall deal for customers since no worrying about dogs being let out by mistake.
