In summary: new dedicated switch on the side to toggle zoom control, handle has more battery, new plate to switch to vertical faster, 20% stronger torque, and painted Teflon if you wanna cook an egg on it
As soon as I saw the seamless switching between horizontal and vertical I bought it. I run a real estate media business and this is a game changer for me. It will save me so much time!
I don't own a gimbal, will it take a while to balance
That was so impeccably/professionally edited Chris! - Perfect! Absolute distilling of facts and entertainingly delivered! I'm in awe! 🙂
Vertical support is neat but pretty underwhelming release overall. I picked up the RS3 pro in December and I don’t have much FOMO. Appreciate your solid concise reviews as always, though 👊🏼
Thanks for watching!
I definitely appreciate the straight forward of this video as always from Chris.
Appreciate you 🙏🏼
@@chrisbrockhurst can I use an iPhone 15 Pro on this gimbal DJI RS4 PRO
Another great video of a great product. Thanks for the review. I'm looking forward on getting this gimbal myself. The wireless connectivity is just awesome. 😁👍
Great job on the video Chris! Thanks for making it. When you're using the tethered side handle, do the center post controls still work? can you program them to do different things? I would love to have aperture control in the center and zoom control on the side, for example.
Love the video! Which would you recommend between the pro and regular versions?
Dude you open boxes so violently, I had my kid look away it was so violent
This unboxing is rated PG.
Lol
@@chrisbrockhurst like a Raiders of the lost ark PG
😂
The best video Ive seen on this gimbal thus far. I have the RS2 Pro and didn’t feel the need to upgrade to the RS3 Pro, and I feel slightly more FOMO on this release, but I don’t think I can justify upgrading just yet. IMO some nice feature upgrades overall. Thanks Chris for such an in depth and informative video on all the new features! This is what I really needed to know!
Was thinking the same. I might sell my RS2 Pro this year and use the money to pick this new gimble. The vertical upgrade & the new adjustment handles are a game changer for me, hate having to screw in the knobs just to tighten the motor arms.
But what is left to do with prosumer gimbals? I feel like the technology has peaked, unfortunately.
Being able to power a monitor from the battery grip is a pretty cool feature. I could see that being useful
Thanks so much for the video! Loved it!
Just a quick note (maybe I missed something here), the Tethered/Remote Gimbal Control Handle (6:53) has has been available since the RS2 (and comparable with the RS3) - its a pretty awesome attachment, however I don’t believe it’s new for the RS4. Or has it been updated somehow?
Another great review as always. Even for an underwhelming release such as this one.
Great review as always! DJI gimbals are just so dang good! One day!
Great overview
I appreciate you watch despite being in the DESERT
@@chrisbrockhurst ✨passenger princess ✨
Hi Chris thanks a lot! What’s the dual handle you’re using ?
In DJI RS3 pro I can also control the zoom via Bluetooth.
You can assign this to the knob on the front
Just Ordered Mines , Sent RS3 In For Repair . Both are Pretty Good
Best video of the release
Great Video
I just ordered one for my alpha a7i I was gonna sell it but im excited to use my camera in a new way. I also ordered to new lenses so I'm excited for that
I'll just wait for the aftermarket plates to release
I just got it from amazon, and after putting an fx3 with tamron 28-75 I saw DJIs website its not designed for fx3... should I go for the Pro version?
Thanks for the review.
So glad I didn’t get the RS3 pro about two weeks ago. Now I can invest into the RS4 pro even tho the 3 is cheaper now.
Wouldnt I have to rebalance even after I switch to the vertical even if its easier to switch?
Still using the RSC2 and happy
Perfect time for this Release!
I thought about weeks to get a new Gimbal now, i was running on the weebill S and my rig is getting bigger the gimbal is to weak for my needs, so i had to detach everything befor using and the Problem with the Vertical recording, that is not stable and drain alot of energy.
Because Vertical styled video become more and more a thing, this quick swap between horizontal and Vertical is good.
iam excited to test this Gimbal Out!
@4:13 can you make a video of your gimbal setup (monitor holder etc) ?
Are the side grips sold separately or in a bundle?
Are all extra parts in the combo edition?
Hey Chris which gimbal would you use for Tamron 35-150 and ZV-E1? Regular RS4 or do you think RS4 Pro would have more stable footage?
Probably pro with that lens, it’s heavyyyy
Is there still the option to setup s bus control with a radio remote?
quick question , does anybody know if that extender battery works with the rs2 or even the 3?
RS2 was so good that DJI will be convincing people to upgrade for a whiiiiile
Most of the appeal of RS3/4 is in the additional accessories support at this point imo, the only reason I would upgrade is to use DJI Transmission with my gimbal
Can you use the accessories of DJI RS3 For DJI rs4?
Will my rs3 accessories work on the rs4?
will this gimbal balance the R5C with RF 24-70 f2.8?????
I can not find supersmooth setting now. I turn it on all the time on rs2 and rs3 and it help smooth the footage.
Love the video Chris but I still think hohem iSteady MT2 is better for regular cameras
Hey Chris!
Thanks for the video!
What interesting me the most is charging camera from gimbal, because of terrible battery life on my canon r5c. You said that it is possible with that big battery that you can buy seperately by usb-c, but is this possible with "standard" battery that you get with rs4 pro?
Just the extension I believe
The only thing I will probably get is the new and improved plate, so again, how I have used it for vertical shooting, the new battery grip, and the focus motors. That is pretty much it; that is all I want.
As others have said, I haven't seen anything here that would cause me to jettison my RS3 in favor of this. Having said that though, I wonder, is that larger battery handle and/or remote-control grip backwards compatible?
Sooooo can we ring grip it?
Can you place a Rode Pro microphone on top of the camera and move it freely without touching the sides of the gimbal?
I'm thinking of getting a rs3. Its on sale now that the rs4 is out. Have a canon r6 mark ii with a 24-70 2.8 want to use it for music videos
I predict that Auto balancing would exist on the rs6 if not the rs5. Even if it requires a little help from you while the rest of the micro adjustments are done by the gimbal.
I think one improvement they could make that I’ve always found as a downfall throughout the previous models is the roll axis adjustment… I think they should make a micro adjustment system like the camera plate adjuster, as at the moment it’s abit of a pain to have to take the weight of the camera to make adjustments.
I'm still happy with my DJI RS3
Just want to buy rs3 pro combo for bmcc6k full frame , would you recommend buy rs4 instead?
Spend a little bit more bucks and get the latest tech. Also go for the rs4 pro
You can’t go wrong with either, both are fantastic. Newest tech always has the best of the best but doesn’t mean the previous gen is bad by any means
@@juanmanuel3884 would you go with pro or pro combo for the Blackmagic full frame?
I was in a similar choice..I was waiting to see about the RS3Pro..but now the RS4Pro is coming out..for me personally I am going to go for the 4Pro..subtle small but at the same time big changes if that makes sense..the horizontal/vertical mount change alone is so much better with the 4Pro and like Chris mentioned the some stuff..fully locked less "jiggle" better new image stabilization, focus controls new lcd screen UI...etc..my vote would be the RS4Pro..it will actually be my first gimbal..lol
@@ldmndz4652 will also go for 4 combo, wondering how much will be waiting timr
Okay, if I install the base plate of the RS4 onto my RS3, will it be compatible?
Asking the real questions 😂😂
@@cooperrush76 I can already control the power zoom lens on my RS3 manually without wires, and I'm just noticing the difference in the baseplate. I believe this baseplate will fit on my RS3. I think in a few days, Tilta or another brand will manufacture such a baseplate
@ayansinghh I just bought the rs3 for my Sony a7iv. It'd be great to have this base plate. I just bought a vertical bracket, I mainly post on IG. I don't see any reason the base plate wouldn't fit on the Rs3.
Shut i upgrade from RS 3?
There's me thinking the RS4 would have HDMI pass through the axis....I guess I'll wait for the next release. Although this would be a good upgrade from the RS3Mini.
love the review...i just hope people dont overprice their RS3 so they can get the RS4 😒
The thing with this DJI gimbals, is if you have to do the ninja walk. I'll gladly give my money when a gimbal actually stabilizes well in a vertical axis... all I see, is a bunch of upgrades that I can live without and seems RS4 is for new customers... But hey Chris, favorite youtuber! thanks for the awesome review.
It's not necessary to wait for a gimbal that also stabilizes the vertical axis. This problem can already be solved today with the following setups, for example:
Gimbal Steadicam Hybrid:
th-cam.com/video/qp4MBKZh-IU/w-d-xo.html
Gimbal Easyrig Setup:
th-cam.com/video/5Q1fXoCNd8c/w-d-xo.html
DJI Ronin 4D:
th-cam.com/video/TiVJnRXUwKw/w-d-xo.html
Im still happy with my rs3 mini gimbal, lightweight and far more easy to carry, rs4 is good, but as content creator, I think the mini series still beating this, but also hope they will release rs4 mini soon though.
Hey, Chris!
I always love your videos… Short & sweet, well reviewed! good one… For me, RS4 is just a lazy upgrade from DJI!😏 I'm gonna stick with RS3.
Thanks for watching
Is there an RS4 Pro? Or does the RS4 already have all the capabilities the RS3 Pro did?
There is a pro version
@@christianmbabazi9722 it's funny, they barely advertised it.
Has anyone tried a heavier camera on it yet? A Ursa Mini, or something equivalent?
The first sentence is enough for me.
I think it may be time to upgrade from my Ronin S, to at least the RS3 Pro.
I wish the standard rs4 came with a carrying case
any talk of an RS4 mini?
Who knows 🤷🏻♂️
They should call it RS 3.5 not RS4
My only question is, is it Bluetooth connection to Nikon Z9?
The only useful feature would be if its dust and weatherproof. Otherwise its exactly the same thing for all the features 90% of filmmakers needs as the RS3
you dont get rod mount with rs 4 ...
Gimbals are one of those gadgets that does NOT have to be released yearly,
Barely anything new just very small improvements over last year
Will hold onto the RS3 for another year
we are waiting for dji to implement 4D into the gimbals. tired of this same gimbal relaunched again and again.
Exactly. Innovation has crawled to a halt.
👏🏻👏🏻👏🏻
They should include a fine adjustment dial (like the one on the baseplate) for every axis.
I’d love that
This !
They should make the next version entirely self-balancing and do away with all the manual futzing
I considered and I did one subscriber coming right up
Feels like that Trigger FPV function could be updated on earlier systems if DJI were willing to put out a software update, as that is a nice feature and entirely possible to implement into earlier models !
Sell me the new connector for horizontal/ vertical dji
Teflon = PTFE = Polytetrafluoroethylene is a synthetic fluoropolymer of tetrafluoroethylene. It belongs to the per- and polyfluoroalkyl substances (PFAS)) and has numerous applications its in everything from Gortex jackets to bike chain lube. It used to be indestructible and could have been like asbestos but recently we've discovered a way to break it down and get rid of it.
Also space shuttle
This is good because all the 'content creators' will go out and buy them and the second hand RS3s will become affordable.
I will find the RS3 to RS4 is more Upgrade from RS3 Pro to RS4 Pro .. because finally the normal RS4 has an Communication Port ... RS3 hasn't
Until they get a system to reduce or eliminate the z axis bounce, it is only incremental changes that won't get my money.
You gotta perfect your ninja walk more 😉
@@chrisbrockhurst I do, I do, but they could have implemented a system like the 4D.
🗣️ZHIYUN !!!
I was waiting for the RS4, but I ended up a bit disappointed. I thought that DJI, instead of the heavy and problematic, wired Raveneye, would go in the direction of Hohem iSteady MT2 and add object tracking using AI, but here we have a supposed novelty that somehow feels lacking... Hohem iSteady MT2 does handle object tracking with AI quite well, but unfortunately, it's not without flaws. Hohem iSteady MT2 and its tracking work up to 3 meters away from the gimbal, but people need a few more meters for happiness.
It is a a RS3 + Update - to good the RS3 now becomes super cheap
Isn't Teflon carcinogen stuff?
What's actually new? The price...
Why do you pronounce your T's as D's
Soy they basically put a 4 instead of a 3 and updated software.
Pretty underwhelming release, that's not to say the RS4 is a bad gimbal, it's just that the RS3 was a pretty damn good one. Not even sure what else they can add or improve on. I like that DJI is consistent with the designs, vs Zhiyun who like to throw in new gimmicks in every different generation.
It’s kind of like phones now, we’ve peaked. Everything is already so good so Refinements and general improvements with the odd new feature here and there
The best thing they could add, would be a system to reduce or remove the Z axis bounce. Gimbal has literally stalled.
@@chrisbrockhursteh. Subject tracking without extra accessories, z axis stabilization, and auto balancing would all be game changers, and 2/3 they already offer in other products.
@@shotbyramDJI has a partnership with LUMIX that builds on the subject tracking - using my S5IIX I can use ActiveTrack without accessories on the RS3/RS3 Pro - and I would assume RS4.
Yeah I'm glad I picked up a discounted RS3 now rather than waiting and paying full price for RS4
The rs4 is now heavier than the rs3 which doesn't provide much incentive to upgrade at all. Poor update!
There’s a lot more too it than that. You do you boo
Not worth upgrade from rs3
All I need is a BUILT IN ACTIVE TRACK IN THE GIMBAL. Just throw in the User interface from the pocket 3 where you can tap to track people/items. This would open up so much creative shots and movements especially for solo operators. I dont want to screw around with a separate raveneye system. That would be a real game changer unlike these small upgrades.
Trust me, it's on the way. The problem is power efficiency when your gimbals are CONSTANTLY drawing some sort of power for micro-movements for both tracking AND stability. It's a much harder controls problem to solve, and it's also a lot harder to make motors that won't burn out quickly.
@@spdcrzy what are you talking about? Lmao the gimbals are already moving nonstop, compensating for the movements. That's literally its job. Why would it get burnt out by adding an active track feature? Also, the batteries are already 8-12hrs long. I don't mind losing 1-2 hours of that if I have a game changing feature like BUILT IN active track. 3rd thing is that the pocket 3 already has this user interface so they can literally just copy and paste that to these gimbals.
@@EbenPajanconi the controls algorithm for a large cinema gimbal and a tiny pocket gimbal are not the same. You can't just import software that's calibrated for tiny motors and use it directly on a gimbal that is capable of so many more functions at a larger scale. The gimbals are always doing gyroscopic stabilization with internal processing. HOWEVER. That processor isn't doing active tracking calculations right now IN BODY - that's being done by the RavenEye transmitter and the app itself. I have a funny feeling that it will take DJI until the next generation to integrate it properly into the gimbal software as well as the hardware.
@@spdcrzy im not talking about the gimbal algorithm. I'm talking about USER INTERFACE. The part where on the screen you can do active track just like on Pocket 3. In fact, they already have a similar system built into these gimbals since RS2. All I'm asking is to be able to use active track WITHOUT needing the lidar, phone, or raveneye.
You actually have that .... IF you have a Lumix camera. Even in the RS3 / RS3 Pro.
