I love that you guys try new things all of the time. It's a learning experience for us all!
Hi Lonnie,is this still available?😅
Lol
Highly underrated comment 😂
FB marketplace is like the wild west. Get ready for the" do you take zelle I'm buying for my sister" scam lol
You can get a Google voice number without getting a whole new phone.
The idea that I am never really “finished” with eBay has really been bothering me lately. Trying to figure out a way to have a life with mental free time apart from eBay is really a wonderful goal. Being bold and trying something new is gutsy. Good luck
All I can say about Marketplace is, good luck!
Selling locally should give you some good stories to share.
i know my local police department has an e-commerce pickup area in their parking lot. Something worth checking out if your local police station has something similar.
Wishing you luck but agree with the comments, Marketplace not worth the hassle to me.
Dealing with people on marketplace is not great! I had low ball offers, no shows and ridiculous offers back... I stopped selling on marketplace for this reasons! Lot of time wasters! Big tools and furniture should be good 👍! Good luck with your new ventures! You will do good with auction. Have a great weekend! Joe Bee 🐝 from 🇨🇦 🍁 🇨🇦 Canada!
Meet at a parking lot that has security cameras.
I love that you're sharing in real time your ideas and plans...it's how my brain works fun to see real people trying things and being honest with the good bad and ugly. Lol we all want them to hand us some money:))
It’s time to start thinking about getting a booth at an antique mall versus sending your items to an auction that there fees are getting ridiculous. By getting a booth gives you several options, for starters is the chance to meet other vendors that you can pick for as well as walk-ins and don’t forget about the tourist coming into your area. For one thing that has changed for us is how we do business is that we started pricing our products for the resellers since they shop everyday. In over thirty years of junking we are starting to make money and aren’t stockpiling our products do to lack of sales.
I love the way you're going to do Marketplace. Looking forward to seeing how this experiment works. Gotta try new things. Keeps things interesting.
30% of my sails are on Craigslist in facebook. I actually like meeting up with people and talking with them and hearing their stories and networking and sometimes leads to other buys. I was selling on those platforms before eBay and it's my Foundation
I'm currently going through my listings and removing the local pick up option. Out of the 3 sales that were local pick up only 1 actually lived in the same state. I'm looking forward to seeing how it goes for you.
The last time I sold something with "local pickup only" on eBay, I had to cancel the order 3 separate times for 3 separate buyers because none of them read that shipping was not an option. It was like the curse of the single boot. 😂
Haha. I had Local Pickup as an option. Same. Had to cancel 2x because when they placed bid they didn’t choose their location(zip). There is a way through “send invoice” that you can add shipping. Have to use desktop not app to do it.
Ok, something to consider about the pickup time and places, you might consider staggering either time or place from week to week, the reason I bring this up is, some people are very opertunistic, they see you at the same place at the same time with cash in hand, they may think that would be an easy mark to get some quick cash and try to rob you. I hate that you have to even consider this in this day and age. But I thought maybe that isn't something you have considered, and might want to have in mind for your safety if nothing else. As sketchy as some people on fbm are sometimes, you want to consider this type of thing possibly happening. Best of luck with the local selling.
Good for you! Excited for you. I agree 110% with regards to what you said - with Corporate Greed running rampant (my words) many including myself are looking to other avenues to purchase their needs; to have money remaining for wants! Thank you for sharing😁
Just a suggestion you do not need to get a separate phone for business.
A Google voice number works great.
You could even load the Google Voice app and dial calls You would send and receive them from your phone as a separate number. And no reason to have a separate phone with you to remember to bring all the time. It's also free. When I got mine you could pick words to match a number.
My anxiety is through the roof for you right now. My marketplace experience has been great for making money on large items but the "time wasters" (people asking is item is still available, then they just disappear) (non showers) (unreasonable offers) etc takes up a lot of my time.
I'm really interested to see how the 3-day a week pick up times works. Are you planning on just marking the item "pending" until you make the actual transaction? If so you will still get people asking if the item is available. The message traffic you have to deal with is unbelievable!
Fingers crossed for your new adventure!
I too am interested in seeing how this works with 3 days for pickups. I could imagine a lot of people not showing up.
You picked the wrong pantyhose should have been g
I think one thing you need to keep in mind with this idea of meeting people at a specified time or a routine is that you might lose sales. They might either lose that initial drive that made them want to buy the item in the first place or they might just find one somewhere else. I'll be curious to see how it works out though.
I wish you the best of luck. FB marketplace is terrible. I've had good luck if I'm selling something desirable at a VERY good price. That will get you a quick sale without all the mess. If an item sells for $100 on eBay and I list it on marketplace for $75, it's a nightmare and a time-suck.
Local pickup through Ebay is really not that bad! I have both been the buyer and the seller on a local transaction and it was pretty easy.
The flea market is your best idea. You will be able to keep more of what customers pay for items because there is no shipping and no sales tax. Also, you will be able to source items at the flea market to sell at other places. Request 2 tables. You always scale down to one table.
Auctions are decent for clearing junk. Beat thing to do is find the most popular flea market. I make more in 2 days at flea markets than I do for the whole week on ebay. I have an enclosed trailer that I keep loaded and just go.
Interesting strategy adding FB Marketplace. Can't wait to hear how this works out for you! Personally, I really HATE selling/buying on FB Marketplace - people are horrible!
Candus says “ Just kidding”. LOL😂
Love your videos long time watcher and ebay seller myself... All I can say about the FB Marketplace idea is... Good Luck... Marketplacers drive me absolutely insane. they are all low ball 1/2 price sending re sellers themselves and will not be easy meeting on set times and places.
I used to sell on Facebook a bit but, along with lack of interest, I find it to be a huge pain. I have had people show up like 2 hours late, not have enough money when we meet, beg for discounts etc. With that being said my biggest sourcing is from people who sell on fb because they have no fees.
Set up meets at your local police station. That should reduce non- desirable customers who want to rob you.
Mercari has sell local options you could look into as well. A driver picks it up for you! I haven’t tried it, but since you are being adventurous, you could experiment 😂 It may only be in some locations, I really have not investigated…
always good to keep the business fresh!
I sell a lot on Marketplace. You will have no less than 10 messages back and forth with each buyer. The set times for pickup is a good idea. Hope it work well for you. Love the channel.
Love that you guys are diversifying and trying new things - it's the beauty of owning your own business. Wish you all the best always - thank you so much for all of the knowledge and laughs.
Your concerns about shipping if they select local pick up only are true. BUT you can go and invoice shipping if they choose to have it shipped. No need to cancel and relist.
How
So you can sell big items locally? Thats great :) dont corner yourself
Depending on the fb profile you are selling though, I’m sure you’ll be able to create an auto response to someone’s inquiry. That’ll save even more time dealing with scammers
Market Place…Don’t do it!
I would suggest getting a booth at local Flea Market or Peddlers Mall. That way you still aren’t dealing with people directly. Best choice I’ve made in selling the NON-eBay items. I make an extra grand a month just putting bigger cheaper items at my booth.
Good luck!
I did really well with (shipping) my ebay inventory on marketplace during covid shutdown. Since then, it's a headache. No one wants items shipped and no one ever shows for local pickup. I have maybe 1 in 10 actually show up. Just not good for my area.
Great ideas. Even having another sep line !! True. As long as you gave merch, is not done .😊
Working smarter not hsrder!!!!
One thing to keep in mind with local sales is your market. Luckily I'm in Austin Texas where I have a huge market and a huge variety of types of people willing to buy almost anything.
Great idea to diversify hopefully you put in what happens when you get a great guy buy ❤
I think it's great to try new things, hopefully it works well but you don't know if you don't try. Wondering with picking up larger items are you considering storage auctions, I remember you mentioning it in the past?
Smart move getting a biz phone. I got a Mint Mobile burner for the rare times I need to speak/text with customers.
The FB no shows and high number of crazy messages can be challenge. Have you considered any strategies to help reduce this?
Marketplace??? Run!!!!!! Don't do it! Such a giant headache..."is it available? Is it available? Is it available? Do you take Zelle?"
People on marketplace are SAVAGES--They're rude, don't show up, ask you to give it to their disabled uncle for free, and are WEIRD.
For big items? Yes it can be ok.
Smart to diversify - I set terms with Facebook marketplace as well, I do two days where I either meet people or I drop their item off (as long as in the area where I am already running errands) And prefer they pay by e transfer ahead if time (Canada, we have e transfer here and easy to do) And I also just took a huge load to auction, must be everyone is getting on same wavelength for revamping this online selling gig 🤣👍
And if folks message they want an item, I reply and try to set things up, and they either ghost or start to try to demand their terms - they get blocked. Don’t need that nonsense
Good luck with the new selling strategy! I think it will be a smart move. ❤ the packing videos
Good Morning from Germany 🙂
Funny I just cross listed my items to FB last night. I feel like I need to branch out again. Looking forward to hearing about your FB sales.
L: I wanna resell but I hate people
LOL
RIGHT? I get it 😂
If you have the space, that is a good way to increase your sales... I used to get stuff off of Craigslist free section, and turn it. I don't have the space anymore, but I made over 3k in just the first month...
Pantyhose was supposed to be g not b
Do what you think it's right, never know until you try it and see if it works. If you're already sourcing and coming across good deals to move locally it may be worth your time and space.
I have my land line forwarded to my cell phone
Not to beat a dead horse, but I think you're really going to hate having to spend the necessary time constantly monitoring your FB messages (and new phone!)...time that could be spent listing on eBay etc. You've got such a good thing going right now. I do love the auction idea though...the effort is not much different than dropping off at donation center. 💜
what auction house did you use ? would love to some live auctions
Interesting day. Hm I can never meet. Far away and shy😊
If you have any local kids stuff Facebook pages, some of them have excellent rules and moderators. For my local group, if someone responds that they're interested, they need to purchase - or it's two strikes and you're out.
One more thing to consider with time is the amount of messages you'll be responding to throughout the day. You could easily get 10 different messages on one item from people that you will have to respond to. I would suggest you create some canned responses on your phone so you're not having to type this out every time
Knock on wood, which Im doing now lol. Ive had pretty good luck on Marketplace. I do my research every sale on the person Im going to meet. I pick the place where Im comfortable at, Very carefully. But pretty satisfied with it
YO Lonnie! I’m interested. 👻👻👻
Whatever don't sell would be good for the auction house
Good Luck with the new selling ideas 👍 and definitely wrong pantyhose pulled 👍
Are you going to offer local on Mercari as well?
For FBM, I get 7-10 Is this available messages for every listing. I only respond to the ones that type out a unique message.
What’s the app you use to plan your routes for garage sales
Hey, I set up the meetup like five minutes from my house so when someone shows up at the location they text me and I'm there in five minutes. Solves the no show issue.
Yikes, I predict lots of 'pain'...good luck though!
i would not add local pickup to all eBay items. You're going to get a bunch of people doing what you said exactly. You could easily put in the description "Local pickup available in (enter city here) please send us a message and we'll modify this listing to allow local pickup" of all your listings.
I have not had much luck on FB. I hope that you guys do well.
In THEORY sounds gr8 and all the love and hugs to you, however I'm in the UK Ebay, Facebook ESTY and Vinted (European Site) much smaller than the USA, however even here Facebook is a mess of a site to sell on, Low ball offers, Offers then no payers, payers just not turning up, payers turning up and then arguing about the price. It's just not a good market to sell in.,
The more you complicate things less sales always keep the customers happy, rules rules they will say the hell with that
Even without rules buyers on Marketplace are flakey. I can't imagine what they will be like with rules
Very Smart. I work as a nurse at Ascension Hospital. On May 8th, Ascension's Epic computer system at all 140 hospitals, the clinics, nursing homes, and pharmacies were targeted. My hospital is crippled. If something happened to EBay it's best to have a backup. I think one or both of you have a connection with the Universe. Someone is guiding you two. Hugs 🥰
I hope you guys are conceal carry folks.
Marketplace terrible for me may be good in your parts
👍
Lonnie, with your back, please reconsider flea markets if you have to take tables. The weather can go south in a quick flash if it's located outside. Then you have all kinds of temperatures plus your humidity has got to make things unbearable. But, it's a back health issue you definitely want to consider. 🤔
Flea markets is the best options. Market place I should not start
Your not going to make it selling on Facebook local pickup like that. As soon as you say I can only meet at this specific one hour window you lost your customer. You have to sell it at the buyers availability. I've sold stuff out the back of my truck at midnight several times. Good luck!
I never react, but.... You packed the wrong pantyhose. Candice said B, but on the screenshot it was G with a different picture.
Hope you catched it before packing!
If you're looking for new places to sell, Whatnot is a great place, especially since you have a solid TH-cam following.
Time for you guys to try whatnot, once you see how it goes you will like it.
I enjoy watching them because they are not what not sellers.
Ugh I love them for not being on Whatnot selling dollar store junk to people but it does seem to be what most resellers are moving towards.
@@jamiehammond493 I resisted going to whatnot for ever but finally gave in, I’m a small seller compared to Lonnie and I go to whatnot to source now, best part someone is always on when I have some free time to go look, I’m not saying they need to move everything to whatnot but they should definitely give it a try and build some followers , I’m sure they already know that a lot of people they are familiar with have been doing some shows, it’s definitely a place to clear out dead stock, say items that have not sold in years, go move them on whatnot make space for new stuff, as always just my opinion but if they do join, I’ll be following and watching.
Be careful not to run yourself ragged.
Hello guys when you know they are scammers on facebook ,play along with them for a while give them your address as the local police station and give them a phone number for fraud investigation , shame you could not see the reaction but they will not come back to you ,i dont know facebook that well but could you block that sender so he does not try again
Too bad list perfectly is so expensive.
Marketplace is a big waste of time in my opinion. 9 out of 10 people are no shows! Even on great deals or freebies in my experience. Hope you have much better luck than ihave though!!
first
The Ebay algorithm does not like an account delisting and removing listings. Crosslisters beware.
You got a copy of it? I’d like to take a look
I commend your goals with Marketplace but I'm ebay only now after doing exactly what you propose, you are complicating your business and it won't be fun anymore!
Try consignment in an antique mall.
I know you understand time is money. I think you’re opening a can of worms that doesn’t need to be opened. Some police stations now have dedicated parking for meet and exchange, with video surveillance. Hope it works for you. This way of selling isn’t for me.
Your terms of meeting certain days will never work. People want items when they want items. You have to work with them. If you don't then your sales will be bad.
I sell on Facebook as well and am established with 166 reviews and mostly all 5 star reviews. I have no 1 or 2 star reviews. I highly believe if you aren't flexible and willing to meet at most times, then your sales will be bad. Just my experience.
