    I wish I'd have been able to read the tiny print on the package before I spent $21 on my mini-fridge. With my magnifying glass, I see that the package states "cools 20-28 degrees below ambient room temperature." In other words, if room temperature is a typical 75 degrees, the best you can hope for is about 50 degrees in the fridge--not cold enough for keeping any type of food above within the safety limit and not cold enough for beverages, either. You're better off with an ice chest.

    I wonder if you could stick a fan on the inside and make a mini air conditioner?

    I need a huge favor.. My fridge stopped today and When I got home I grabbed a babybelll cheese to eat and it was soft i noticed it had lent and I got all the lent out of the face and corners as well, but my fan just barely works and I’m afraid it’s gonna spoil my pepperoni and melt my cheese.. I’ve only had this for two years as a Christmas gift and I can’t afford to get another!!! Would you mind if I asked how to fix it ? I’d greatly appreciate it

      Hi Vanessa Nicole,
      If the fridge isn't cooling properly, the food could already be spoiled or unsafe to consume. Be careful of that.
      The manual says that the product should be serviced only by qualified persons when the product does not appear to operate normally or exhibits a marked change in performance.
      The manufacturer warranty is for 1 year. Having had yours for 2 years, the warranty period has ended and the cost of repairing would be your responsibility. It might be better to consider an alternative until you could afford either a repair or replacement.
      I wish I had a better solution but that's the best I've got.
      Here is a link to the manufacturer where I got the info

      If it happens again, try using compressed air to blow out the fan. There aren't many things that could go wrong with it.

    • @1991USsoldier
      @1991USsoldier 2 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@leekeene5889 yeah I had to clean my vents. The way it works, is the fan pulls heat from a metal heat sink in the back. If the ribs on the heat sink become clogged the heat can't leave, so the cooler stays warm.
      These are neat since they contain no freon.

    I'm get one tonight so we'll see how it is. Yes I know it's not for food but I am looking to get it for cans. EDIT: So the fan is annoying for sure. It's not loud but I can hear it in my room. Yeah I know there would be a fan but come on I have heard quieter fans than this. Guess you get what you pay for aka cheap junk. It's s cool temperature wise but I haven't had a chance to test with actual cans yet just bottles of water.

    I have a 12 can capacity Peltier based unit in my room... They're good for canned drinks like soda, just like they were initially designed, but for meat, milk, or other perishables, you're gonna need a unit with a standard refrigerant electromechanical compressor...

      Hi JL,
      In its description, the manufacturer states it can cool to 20 degrees below room temperature.
      curtisfrigidaire.com/product/efmis129/
      So I haven't used it for anything perishable, like milk. I use it to chill canned or bottled drinks

    In cool mode get hot not even one year old why

    • @RoadtrekRich
      @RoadtrekRich  3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Hi Michelle Vazquez,
      These little "refrigerators" cool using a Peltier module. A thermoelectric device, that when electric current passes through it, one side of the module gets warm while the other gets cold. By isolating the cold part inside the refrigerator box and insulating the box, a cooling effect can be achieved. A small fan blows the hot air the effect creates away from the machine.
      Now, if the fan were to stop working, my guess is there would be more warm than cold around the "frig" and negate the cooling effect.
      Or if somehow a switch that was supposed to be "cold" changed to "hot". That's pretty hard for switches to do.
      Can you hear a fan running? It should be. If not that would be where I would begin.

    • @michellevazquez9653
      @michellevazquez9653 3 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@RoadtrekRich I can hear the fan running and sometimes when the switch turns to cool it still gets really hot and everything melts and also you can smell the fan on the back burning

    • @RoadtrekRich
      @RoadtrekRich  2 ปีที่แล้ว

      Since it lowers the outside temp by around 20 degrees, Probably not for too long.This little fridge keeps things cool kind of like an ice chest does but without the ice, melting, condensation or water.

  • @yvairguy
    @yvairguy 4 ปีที่แล้ว +2

    They use a peliter element. They can only pull down about 30* degrees below the ambient temperature, maybe a bit more. These aren't bad in an air conditioned space but they drop way off in a hot car. Incidentally you can also change positive and negative and turn it into a warmer.
