Hello Cricuters,
Let me show you how to use the CHARACTER MAP IN CRICUT DESIGN SPACE. I am using a computer that is operating Windows 11. I am not familiar with how to use a Mac operating system; but this process should be quite similar.
You will need to download an app called CHARACTER MAP UWP.
The font that I used in this tutorial is called Joseph Sophia and I downloaded it from dafont.com.

Thank you for the information about how to upload the special characters! I bought a special font with fancy characters for a wedding project. The font designer's instructions were ok but did not include how to upload the characters to Cricut. Using the Control V was exactly what I needed to finish my project. Great tutorial!!!

Oh no. What happens when you install it? You have to make sure your option in Design Space is on system fonts.

Glad it helped! Try doing this on your Mac: Press Ctrl + Cmd + Space to Open the Character Viewer

I probably took the long route...but I downloaded ifont (free), then downloaded Joseph Sophia from dafont.com, the downloaded Unicode (99 cents). Open Unicode first, select font, glyph, etc...open design space and paste.

I am also having the same problem. I have used the character map prior to the Cricut update. Since the update there is no longer a box that pops up above the existing written text. Now I can only highlight within the original text box but after ctrl + v it only repeat the existing letter. It does not replace but adds the same letter. In your tutorial you are showing us how to use the character map prior to the update. Can you show us how to use the character map post the Cricut updated version?
Yes, I noticed that recently too. What I have found is that when you use ctrl + v now, the pasted letter is actually grouped with the letter. Go to the letter that you are adding a glyph to and ungroup it in the layers panel and you will see the pasted glyph. I hope this helps.
This video is prior to the update. How do I use the character map using the app? I couldn’t highlight the letter like you did in the video. Thanks in advance

Hey Delonda, I downloaded the UWP Character Map and I have the josephsophia font. But it does not show in the UWP character map. It shows in Cricut Design Space when I click on my system fonts in Cricut Design Space. I notice that I have lots of fonts in my system, however that are not loaded into my UWP character map. Do you have any suggestions on how I can make this happen? I really love the Joseph Sophia font! So frustrated!!

Hello Delonda. I would like to thank you for your tutorial. However, I have tried several times to find the characters I need in the app and they are not coming up. (ie. there was no lower case d with the special glyphs.
Are you in the character map UWP?
@@CraftingwithDelonda Yes, I am. I have even reinstalled it in case it didn't download correctly the first time.
Before you get to the character map UWP choose the font you want to edit in design space. Then open the character map UWP and scroll down and find the exact same font.

Newbie Question: I'm using glyphs or PUA encoded fonts but it's not showing up on cricket design space when I paste the character. All the tutorials I've watched seems to be on the older version of design space where you have a text box to type in the words and the font will show up next to it. The version i have doesnt have the small text box but instead you type directly into the text area which will show the font. When i paste the character, the glyph will show up as a box. Does anyone know to how to fix this?
Hi there, usually when that happens it's because you are trying to use 2 different fonts at one time. The glyphs work with the specific font being selected in Design space.

Do I go to my playstore on my phone to find the app? I have an Android and not finding it. Character map uwp ?
I have never used it from a phone. You will probably have to search and find one that is compatible with Android phones.
Just curious as to why there are no capital letters with the swoosh at the beginning. all I see are lower case letters.
I guess that's how the designer created it.
my design space doesnt give me the little box that you type in. it just gives me the text. how did you get the box to pop up? ive tried everything. please help
What device are you using Design Space from? I am using a desktop computer and it looks different on different devices.

I’m not sure why your version of Design Space is different than mine. When I click on the text I have, I don’t get that other text box that you have. I can’t seem to figure this out and I’m trying not to cry.

What would you do for a capital "A". I notice a lot of these fonts don't come with capital letters
I haven't seen any that don't come with capital A. Scroll up or down.

Oh, now I know what I meant lol, the capital letters on most of mine don't have the flourishes, just the lowercase ones do, but if I'm writing a name, I need the first letter to be capitalized. Hope this makes sense.
Makes total sense. I normally find a flourish that I like and I connect it. Let me find a tutorial where I demonstrated how to do it.

How do you add accent marks to letters in Cricut Design Space? Every tutorial shows how to add glyphs not accent marks on letters, such as Peña.
You have to use a font that has accent choices. For example, if you were using Times New Roman, you would select the e that has an accent instead of the regular one. That is still found in the character map.
@@CraftingwithDelonda Thanks, but my last name is Peña and I know how to put the tilde over my n using my keyboard but not how to get it into design space.

@@CraftingwithDelonda yes,very much. I finally figured it out. Once you click on the fonts in design then click on systems at the top and it opens the fonts downloaded on your computer and then I had no problem. Thanks for your help!
It won't paste in Design Space
Make sure you have the same font selected in Design Space and in the Character map.
