And you know what was the most BEAUTIFUL of this episode? The Clash (Round 1 and 2) between KITT and Goliath was all miniatures and it was BEAUTIFUL!!! it looks so detailed and so real.... Of course its noticeable that it was car toys but the sequence, the crash, and KITT flip over and over it was so good.... When I was a kid, I cried to see KITT coming close to the screen with the hood all damaged xD... IT WAS PURE GENIOUS!!!

The sound design is exceptional. KITT’s damaged voice...and the way he builds power before the engine starts or reboots is great.

@@joebone3151 Problem with Knight Rider game is that it begs for open-world, but it would need to be closed world to stay true to the series. Otherwise players would turn it into GTA. There was an open-world driving game where you had to adhere to traffic code in most cases, and generally avoid making police angry, it was called Mafia 1, but developers don't believe a game like this would be a success again.
In a matter of minutes Michael goes from not understanding blueprints to throwing together a ramjet. I love 80s TV shows.
He only got a weigh idea from it. NOT MORE!
I remember it pissed me off already when I was teenager. Back then I already knew that Ramjet has not moving parts so there would be nothing to power prop shaft for the powered wheels, not to mention ramjets need supersonic speeds to even start working. It appears the scriptwriter had no technical knowledge or he assumed that American audience is too stupid to have any.
As a former scientist, the prospect of a ramjet was absolutely ridiculous in this show. A ramjet operates as a result of super compressed air funneled into a combustion chamber, and you would need to reach speeds over Mach 2 at sea level for enough air to hit the chamber. At that speed, KITT’s exterior would reach over 300F from friction, and the wind sheer would have affected several hundred feet around...meaning that poor prospector would have likely been ripped to pieces.

@@richardr7947 To get around Michael having to buckle up every time he jumped into the car, the writers gave KITT something called a 'passive laser restraint system'. I guess it didn't work in this particular case.

But speaking of seat belts, Star Trek's Enterprise should have had them on the bridge. Also, the captain should have been able to activate the shields from his chair instead of wasting time giving the order and having a second officer doing it...but I digress.
The black leather jacket was almost always symbolic, of Michael being "all-in". Check the other episodes, & clips, to see what I mean.
Hasselhoff really shatnered that scene. What a great show. I grew up in the 80s and 90s, and all my favorite heroes and vehicles were black. KITT. Airwolf. _Return of the Jedi_ Luke. Zorro. Batman and all his Batman...stuff. On any given day you’d probably find me running around the house in a black cape or driving KITT over the edges of the sofa or maneuvering Airwolf around a treacherous coffee table.

This sequence always stuck with me, I've always thought it was so epic. "OUT. OF. THE. DESERT!".
As cheesy as David Hasselhoff’s acting is at times, his portrayal of Garth was downright chilling-I could almost literally see the anger seeping out of every pore.
Makes me laugh how Hoff's dad joked about how Garthe was a better actor than he was😄

“*Pretty soon it will be* hot enough to melt rocks.” The desert ranges in the extremes, it goes from very cold at night to very hot in the day. Nothing much to trap the heat, so it dissipates after sundown, and takes a little bit to get really hot after sunrise.
The hoff is a Legend. Even the sun cant harm him!

I did 110 in my Trans Am on a local highway but would have been scared to keep turning side to side like that. The stuntman must have had balls of steel to drive like that on sand while doing 310.

KITT's armor is built like fort Knox. Garth's truck is especially engineered. If people would notice the people that are working on the truck. They are specialists. This is why KITT was so damaged.
@@sharoneasley9717 The Molecular bonded shell that's on KITT, was also applied to the Truck. So basically the odds were canceled out & it was as if they were normal car/truck vehicles.
@Devin Drew I get that’s what they were aiming for in this episode but in reality they would just not be able to destroy each other. They got the same bond making them basically indestructible it would be like Superman fighting Superman. Kitt is not weaker just because the truck is bigger, he just can’t damage it cuz it has the same molecular bond, same rules should apply to Goliath on kitt

Love 80's show especially Knight Rider. I remember i watched this show back in our country every Wednesday night, Airwolf on Tuesday night , Macgyver on Saturday PM and what else
The paradox of TV. If Michael Knight, Springfellow Hawke, and MacGyver had been shown watching TV every day, then those series would have been boring. But that's what we were doing. Let's turn off the TV and live some real adventure. We won't save the world, we won't drive a talking car, but anything slightly out of our comfort zone is still better than watching TV, I guess. It's cold now. What about going to some place where there is snow, building an igloo and spending one night in it? I'm sure MacGyver would do that rather than spend hours on a couch watching TV. So why not us?
The first time I saw this scene I was amazed. Michael had to be related to Superman somehow because being in a crash like that with no seat belt on would've been a death sentence. Here he's clearly bruised heavily and dehydrated but no apparent broken bones or serious injuries. I guess he has KITT's molecular shell to thank for that.
Of course he had that type of protection from most things,the thing is,Garth had Goliath outfitted or covered with the same molecular solution, otherwise KITT would've tear through Goliath and disabled it with no problem.

Out in California those Trans Ams speedometer only went up to 85 mph at 185 hp,even Corvettes of that year or era suffered that.
200 MPH is crazy enough, but it's stated/shown they hit 310 MPH despite swerving wildly and out of control on sand. Also, note how they never showed how he maneuvered the caroming KITT through local streets and back to FLAG HQ. Ah, the 1980s...when over-explaining was just NOT a thing! :D

I was almost right, with the quote and very near especially as I made the comment before watching the full video, but then I have got the entire series on DVD and it's been a while since I saw the full story.
This is particularly why KARR was the original prototype. It was designed for self-preservation, particularly for moments like this. Too bad Wilton didn't design KITT to assume full control of itself for days when Michael acts like a bonehead.

Love how the first 50 seconds is just the sound of desert wind blowing. Especially as we cut to Michael and KITT laying there motionless as it adds more suspense. This is why I don't care much for the 2-part version of "Goliath". Mostly Part 1 cuz it shows KITT tipping over on his side after colliding with Goliath and then "TO BE CONTINUED" caption appears. Then Part 2 opens with 0:00-0:50 accompanied with scoring, which kind of takes away the suspense. Think it would've been better if Part 1 ended with 0:00-0:50 and then "TO BE CONTINUED" without any scoring. Then Part 2 could still open the same way, scoring too as it would reshow 0:00-0:50 with episode title and credits.

@@yagamijubei28 Michael Knight, as Michael Long, was a veteran of the Special Forces in 'Nam before becoming a LAPD Detective. It was that metal plate in his head that you mentioned, what saved his life when he was ambushed on that special detail in Vegas (as seen in the pilot episode). Wilton Knight and FLAG found the injured Long and with plastic surgery, was rechristened as Michael Knight.

The best thing about no CGI TV shows is that reality NEVER ages. CGI will look dates as technology improves. KITT still looks cool even to us in the age of 300 mph Hypercars.
