Excellent video. Shows very clear and steady of the River from on board, rail views as from the front of the engine (although it is from the back played in reverse as Tim says) and all the other beautiful scenery. This is a wonderful video. Tim rode the train several times to get all the different shots of the same site. Good captions of the different places. Excellent editing. Thanks for sharing.
An awesome, second chapter to a breath-taking ( and I mean that very sincerely ) train excursion! In full-screen, high-definition, your video is a 'virtual vacation' of stunning scenery and color! I actually had the sensation of 'riding' in the coach, right alongside of you! The gorgeous scenery at Counter 19:56 through 20:07 just nailed me to my seat! Thank You so much for sharing this video journal of your trip! Your footage is as good as any of the commercially available train videos! You need to get an award for this one!
Hi, I really appreciate your comment, I enjoy travelling and making these videos although I can't give up the day job yet. This was my first visit to Colorado, I was on an organised tour to ride some of the states wonderful railways, I was expecting the experience to be a good one, but as it turned out, this tour surpassed all my expectations. I would love to return one day.
Hey! how are you? I live in Brazil. Do you remember which month of the year you took this train ride? I ask because the vegetation is very beautiful and the color of the water in the stream is spectacular!
You see so many Highline videos and videos of the train along the highway or at the Durango depot I bet a lot of people would think the train other than the big cliffs of the Highline travels through some hills at best. This video especially at the 20 min mark shows the beauty of the big mountains of the Weminuche that most of the train videos I have seen don't have. Amazing, great video!
Thank you, your comment is appreciated. The High-line is breathtaking and I agree there is a lot more to see along the whole line. It amazes me that anyone could even have thought this line was possible, let alone actually build it. This ride was the highlight of my visit to Colorado.
When two angles tell different stories! When I see the shots coming from the loco's end(right up front and looking onto the track), it makes the track appear wider than what a narrow-gauge track should be. Yet when I see the track from further back through the train, from one of the carriages, the track appears exactly as a narrow-gauge track should be.... optical illusion. Great video, Tim!
They certainly were! America seems to go all out with everything they build, so it seems. And you still have Part 3 to come as well? I'll be keen to see it when it's ready. Cheers, Tim.
+Neil Forbes Same experience at Tim's videos at 'Royal Gorge Route Railroad'. Reasons are, too, brain and body to which horizontal and vertical distances are very different. - Heinz
+pega17pl, yeah. I got the impression from some shots(looking at the track from the loco's end) that the track gauge was wider than it should be, but other shots(from one of the carriages) showed the width of the track as it should be for a narrow gauge. An optical illusion.
IT is the use of wide angle lenses, as the camera is lower and closer to the ground/rails they appear father apart than normal, and a sharper angle to the point they appear to merge in the distance.
Google Translate - Hi, I'm pleased you enjoyed the video. You Tube takes us to many wonderful places, most of us will never see in person.
Groeten. Tim.
Hi, the third rail is a check rail to stop the train moving further over in the event of it leaving the rails. They are usually used on sharp bends, bridges or areas where the train would drop off a cliff edge if it completely left the rails.
I wish I had been able to get a driver's eye view on this trip, A guards eye view was the best I could do. If you look very closely you may notice the driver's eye views in this video are actually guards eye views reversed. I will up load the original guards eye view in a week or two.
The one way trip from Durango to Silverton is about 72 kilometers. You can take a bus back or return on the train. Wear glasses as the coal will get into your eyes especially uphill when the engine is working hard.
I could just watch Durango & Silverton videos all day: this is a great one.
Thank you, I'm glad you enjoyed it.
I have been on the ride 4 times. It is awesome.

Thank you for your kind comment, I'm really pleased you enjoyed it.
Another great one by Tim - who just might be #1!
Hi, I'm really pleased you enjoyed it. This railway has a real Wild West feel to it, only the bandits were missing, a wonderful experience.

Hello, I'm good and it's nice to hear from Brazil, I hope you are keeping well. I shot this video 11th September 2017.
This is so
beautiful. Thanks for taking us along on your journey.
Thank you, it was a pleasure to take you for a ride along this very special railway.
Cracking part two Tim....Just gets better and better.......Steve.
Hi Steve, this was a truly memorable trip. I am working on Part Three now, I think you'll love Silverton, it's a real cowboy town.

Great video! Amazing scenery. Thank you for making and sharing your memories with others.
Thank you, your comment is really appreciated.
To think that most of these views have not really changed since the line was built in 1881! WOW!
Much of the route through the gorge is inaccessible by road and I think this is one of the reasons so little has changed since the line was built.
Awesome views and very nice video. I really enjoy traveling with you. Safe travels ahead.
Thank you, I'm glad you were able to join me for a ride on this outstanding railroad.
on our wedding trip in august 1970 we took this train wonderful wonderful!!! Jim Martin
as we were waiting to board that morning a fellow passenger remarked---there is a world series atmosphere about this train trip
People were excited when I boarded the train, they knew the trip was going to be something special.
thank you for this video of the train. we always enjoy refreshing our memories
Sensacional !!! Sem palavras !!! 👏👏👏👏👏👏👏
Estou feliz que tenha gostado.

Cheers Neil, I'm glad you enjoyed it. They were big engines for narrow gauge.

Hello,Tim.Again You show us with perfect video. Thank so much.May bee,Iwill see that video next time in Nat Geo. channel. Many greetings,Tim.
Hi, I'm glad you enjoyed it. I don't think I am quite up to National Geographic standard yet, maybe one day.
Just splendid. Now I long to return to the San Juans!
Hi, I can understand people wanting to return, I'm one of them.
Maravilha esse Rio

Animas River in some places has super whitewater kayaking
That sounds like fun, I'd love to have another go at white water rafting or kayaking.
the tracks make the train really wobbly. makes it look like cars are going to tip over.
The train is big for the width of the tracks, but I felt safe enough when I travelled on it.
Great video. Thanks
Thanks for letting me know you enjoyed it, it is appreciated.
great scenery...surprising to see someone on a zip line...
The scenery is eye catching and there is a zip line adventure park along the way.
Picturesque
"Yes" it is a beautiful place.
In part one a lot of the track seemed to have a third rail. Do you know what that was for.
Hi, the third rail is a check rail to stop the train moving further over in the event of it leaving the rails. They are usually used on sharp bends, bridges or areas where the train would drop off a cliff edge if it completely left the rails.
Much as this is an excellent video, my preference is for driver views.

(15:06) Damaged bridge by water flood or by rocks erosion by water or mountain move?
Amazing ... very nice ...
Thank you.
Legal esse Rio
É um belo rio :-)
Very nice gorge way
Thank you, it was a beautiful ride.
Awesome ty
Very good which country is I am from Pakistan
Hello, it's nice to hear from Pakistan, this railway is located in Colorado, USA.
Przykro mi, jestem rozczarowana. To jest czysta komercja dla seniorów. Jestem zbyt młoda. Mam dopiero 68 lat!!!!!!
